I have done both. I used CBCS for all the older signed comics I had. The capability of them certifying then was cool to me. But I use CGC for anything else.

CGC misgraded my perfect Darth Maul #2 1:25 (sent express for $100) because the grader mistook intentional cover art choices for actual defects (they left grader notes that actually verify this). I popped it out sent to CBCS (two day for $40) and they got it right and gave me the 9.8. Sure I’d rather have a CGC 9.8 for resale value but they have too many inexperienced graders working for them now and leading to inconsistent grading. And my choice was express it with CGC for another $100, send normal speed CGC and wait 6 months and hope they get it right or two day with CBCS with more confidence that they will likely get it right

I used to think the CBCS label was ugly, but I must say it's growing on me. I also like that they put more information on the label than CGC. For example, for retailer gift variants they even write the specific books that the retailers had to destroy in order to get those variants... pretty cool

CBCS I use for PC, signed books and quick turn around(2-day grading plus I'm local to Dallas).. CGC I use for books i invest in to flip for a profit. In my opinion CBCS does everything better except resale value and the label's look.

Four or five years ago this wouldn't even be worth discussing. The fact that this question is even being asked (and discussed for 30 minutes) says a lot about how much CBCS has gained on CGC.

I know a simple man but my head hurts trying to work out which one to send too. It seems like if it's an old expensive cgc is the way to go as you get more from your investment. If it's a modern book then it seems it doesn't matter as much is right ? Love the videos they keep me sane while I walk to my car and to work each day. Keep smiling guys

I spec'd Special Marvel Edition 15, low grade, quarter box, 1995, in Minneapolis at Comic Book College. The whole Master of Kung Fu series is undervalued.

this grading thing is crazy. i have some books graded but it basically makes them a trading card. cbcs offering the signature authentication is a game changer. Way to much work getting cgc involved as a witness

Comic Tom 101,i have a Soul fire#1 virgin variant CGC SS 9.8 signed by Michael Turner and according to CGC there are only 32 copies signed so do you think that book will go up considering there will never be anymore signed????

I think me and you battled on that Margie 36 you had. 800 was as high as I could go lol. I did however secure the 3.5 raw that was sold.

Because CGC will only certify the signed books if they witnessed the signing while CBCS does signature recognition.

Although I have more CGS graded books I like CBCS because you can have your signed book with no witness graded with no problem while CGS it must be witness when autograph. Which I don't understand why PSA ( Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) & PSA/DNA) and CGS team up and save the headaches. Like Beckett and CBCS did.

So I bought a signed youngblood 2 with a coa a while back, should I send that into cbcs for a yellow label since I've heard that cgc doesn't honor COAs.

Maybe, but CBCS doesn't honor COA's either. They have a separate autograph authentication process.

CBCS has a tendency to grade harder on older books like golden age. Remember that when submitting. I do everything through CBCS because they do more consistant with grades. I am a big Captain Marvel (Fawcett) collector & I know CGC would grade them easier but I am still sending the books to CBCS. I want the grade to be true, & CGC has a history of not doing that.

CBCS has a clearer, stronger case with no newton rings. Also, no need to re-slab every 7 years. I swear sales prices would equal CGC if Steve Borock would just give us a BETTER LABLE! Lot of collectors just waiting to give him their money if he ever does.

By the time u get ur cgc books back the market will have changed completely. Iv used both companies. Happy with both but I lean cbcs . But im a collector not a flipper.

Why doesn't cgc have more offices is bigger cities? Why does is take so long to grade comics? Also, We have seen similar collecting bubbles in comics. Remember the Wizard bumb? So many hyped back issues, so few people actually reading them. You guys are cool.

Every time there's a very large price anomaly it's always Heritage. Video games, comics etc. Still strongly suspect they run bids up for publicity sake, we know Heritage employees bid on them.

I actually got a book back from them wrong recently myself! They miss-labeled my Young Avengers #1 as a 2nd print instead of 1st! I was livid 😡

You hear so many people complain about CGC but in the same breath say if you want more money for your book than send it to CGC. “If the market dictates” which company sells for a higher cost but people aren’t happy with said company than do something about it people. We are the market. I am not a flipper and I have books at both CGC and CBCS right now. I will admit it would be all CBCS if only they did magazine books. The perks at CBCS are just to good to pass up. Free graders notes that can be read at any time because of the QR code on the back label. New cases that have no Newton rings or micro chamber paper. This means you don’t need to replace the case every 8-10 years. Shorter wait times and it’s cheaper to get books graded. Plus the verified signature program. Only real downfall to me is the no magazine grading. They are missing out on Turtlemania and a lot of other books.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why people pay more for a CGC graded book. The quality of the comic is no different. CBCS grades just as well as CGC. I can't figure out why people pay such a premium for the holder it's in. I honestly can't even figure out the huge price difference between a 9.8 and a 9.6. I've collected comics for 35 years and I can't tell the difference in a 9.8 and 9.6 80 percent of the time. You guys are sitting there talking about not being able to tell the difference. That tells me that the grading companies can't consistently tell the difference. Which comes back to it being idiotic to pay such a premium for such a book.

Look! Fact is CGC is now living off the reputation they've made for themselves in the past and aside from their label, I could give 2 shits if I ever used these jokers again. Their grading is inconsistent, their QC is abysmal . CBCS has a shitty label that they refuse to change but their grading is strict, and consistent and QC is spot on. Tough choice, but at this point I'm going with the better value $

@@GHite-vf8wr Your comment proves there is nothing wrong with PGX. What is wrong is the perceived notion that a graded comic with a 9.8 is worth more because it has a CGC label instead of a PGX or CBCS one. There is a least one video I've watched where the same book received the same grade from both PGX and CGC. I am just getting back into the hobby after twenty-five years, before any grading companies existed, and from what I understand there was some issue with PGX a while back? Recently there have been issues with both CBCS and CGC. Fake signatures and mislabeling comics. Grades are done by people, people make mistakes, a 9.8 should hold the same value no matter what letters are on its label.

Sadly, I have a Secret Wars 8 in 9.8 (CBCS starting at $600) that won't sell that looks better than a few CGC 9.8 slabs that have sold for $675 or more. That is an issue. People don't want a 9.8 book, they want a 9.8 slab.
