I've been using retinol products for about a decade & I have worn sunscreen everyday for a couple decades now. And sunglasses anytime I'm outside since I was 20. I'm 57 now & people guess me to be about 40. I don't have acne or cancer in the family, so just a retinol is OK for me. Plus a mild exfoliate about once a week. Start early with face care & don't smoke! I think sunscreen is probably the most important overall to use.

I'm 1 months in using Retin A ( Tretinoin 1%) I noticed a difference in my skin within 1 week of using. Smoother skin, pores smaller. I was taught by my dermatologist how to use it. He prescribed the highest strength for me, the 1%. I use it every night. My nightly routine is only 3 steps. Washing with gental cleanser, Tretinoin, then moisturize. That's it. Nothing more.

I use both retin -A and Retinol. My nightly program is Retinol two nights then Retin-A the next night. I prescribed this routine for myself according to my skins tolerance to Retin-A. Everyone is different and may need a longer time between Retinol and Retin-A. Great informative information Dr Youn.

@@eliselange7161 Hello Elise, I started with 0.5% because it was winter. In summer I gradually move up to 1%. Now since it's fall im back to 0.5%. I am very oily or I should say since I hit my sixties found my oil production to be more normal with an oily T zone and since starting Retin- A again after a year brake, find it makes my skin very active increasing my oil production. I don't really mind it since dry skin can make one look older. Hope this helps. ☺Also Elise when I was much younger I started out on the liquid Retin-A in a dark glass bottle, then to a gel then to Micro now I use cream only.

Denise Roberts thanks. I’m 62 now and have used retin A .05 on and off since the late 90’s, mainly at first to help with scarring resulting from a motor vehicle accident and deep pigmentation from the 5 consecutive surgeries I had in 1990 ...anaesthetic is so bad for general health and skin clarity. I’ve just never gone to the next step, using a stronger retin A..... I believe that hydraquinone is good for reducing pigmentation as well.

I know I am a little late to this conversation but I have been using Retin-A since I was about 30 years old and I am now 65. My skin looks very young for my age. My dermatologist instructed me to mix the Retin-A cream with a moisturizer. She actually demonstrated it. Therefore, I have had no reactions to it at all. When I first started using it, I noticed my skin was flaking off (the exfoliating phase) but it still wasn’t dry because I was using a moisturizer with it. It takes some experimentation to get your own dosing correct. I do not use it every day. And I have always used sunscreen. I was also told to use the Retin-A only at night before sleep. During the day I would always use sunscreen. Perhaps instructions weren’t very good and that’s why the doctor had such a terrible reaction. I have never put Retin-A on my skin without combining it with a moisturizer. This habit has made my skin look very nice. It has helped to fade my freckles and give my skin an even tone and texture. Now that I am in my mid-60s, people are shocked when they find out how old I am because my complexion looks so great and young. I also want to add that my original visit to a dermatologist was because I had skin cancer on my forehead. I had a lot of sun damage for someone my age. That is why my dermatologist put me on this cream. It has saved my face.

@DominiqueFrancon
@DominiqueFrancon 3 жыл бұрын
@@samadahmad4599 When I first started using it, I used it daily and then tapered off to every other day because it can be very drying. Now that I’m older, and my skin is even drier, I use it three times a week at bedtime. I use a dab of the Retin A the size of a large pea and mix it in my hand with a moisturizing cream such as Oil of Olay. More moisturizer than Retin A, like 3 to 1. Then apply to my face.

@@karinsandhu omg don't do this. first of all it is not recommended to mix your sunscreen with anything since it could mess with the uv-filters and potentially make them less effective. secondly, you have to apply tretinoin at because it is extremely photosensitive and will do almost certainly nothing for you when applied during the day! if you have very sensitive skin you could either mix it with your moisturizer at night or put on moisturizer first, let it dry completely and then put on the tret. wait another 30 min or so and apply another layer of moisturizer. buffering like this, skipping days or using the lowest strength will not make it less effective as studies have shown. it's just going to take a little longer to see (the same) results.

@Blondie727
@Blondie727 4 жыл бұрын
Elise Lange The gel is best suited for extremely oily/acne prone skin because it’s super drying so you may want to start with a Tretinoin cream-depending on how oily and/or sun damaged your skin is. My doctor started me out on .05% Tretinoin & I had little issue. *Just to pass on some money saving tips: You can get Tretinoin cheaply online from an India Pharmacies. The channel “Tara Priddy” made a great research video regarding “buying cheap Retin-A”. I suggest watching it if you want to save a lot of money. In the USA, it can cost up to $120 for 20 grams of product versus less than $10 overseas. You’re still getting a Johnson & Johnson product but it’s not as regulated as it is here in the US where Big Pharma screws us all. I also buy generic Latisse (Careprost) $12 from the same place & now have long lush lashes. I couldn’t be happier.🤗

@@Blondie727 in the US you can also check GoodRx where I got my first tube for $32. Check GoodRx periodically because sometimes the price is lower at the pharmacies that they have listed. Once you find that lowest price it will be that price every month at your Pharmacy but I keep checking back to see if I can find it even cheaper. If your Pharmacy says no just call GoodRx in the store and they will call the pharmacy and give them a bin number to cover the product at the price that you're seeing had GoodRx. That way you'd have no shipping charges.
@Blondie727
@Blondie727 4 жыл бұрын
Sable 711 Thanks however I’m extremely happy where I’m at. The Retin-A is legitimate & super cheap ($6). I also get generic Latisse at the same pharmacy for about $13. Most of the time, they sell package deals (Tretinoin + Careprost) and I always buy in quantity. The shipping is only $12 which still saves me money in the long run. For the cheap price I pay, I also use retin-a on my chest area. The US is one of the few countries that makes ridiculous regulations on the cream. In Greece, Retin-A is cheaper than a jar of Vaseline & they use it on their dry feet. Big pharma is so ridiculous.

I had really nice healthy skin until I had a sudden cardiac arrest 4 years ago. Now my skin is so crepey. Horrible around my jowls. I have been using retin-a prescription for about 5 years. My dermatologist said my skin had a reaction because I died and they bought me back. I don't know. I'm embarrassed by the way I look like old farmers skin. I drink a lot of water and I actually love it. I'm retired so I don't have any stress. My hubs is a blessing of 48 years. He tells me not to worry about it and just keep taking care of myself like I do. My cardiac arrest was because my electrolytes bottomed out. I like to exercise too, which is a plus because I am 68 years old. Always have worked out all my life.

@@soonsuicidal I first used a retinol from the drugstore, LaRoche Posay Redermic C I used that for about 9 months to get my skin used it Retinols. Didn’t ever peel with that. Then I started with RetinA .5% and did gave some peeling. I started a sustained regular exfoliating schedule that helped tremendously. I did move up to .1% and I toggle between the .5 and .1% which REALLY makes me peel. The trick is to back down if you’re peeling too much for you comfort (although it’s what’s supposed to happen). You may be person who can only use it 3-4 times a week versus daily like me. Find the best most balanced usage rate of RetinA for YOU and I promise you’ll reap the benefits in time. Don’t be scared of peeling, it’s supposed to happen to reveal the newer softer skin underneath. Be sure to use a moisturizer that works for your changing skin and please use sunscreen daily. Your skin will love you for it and you’ll begin to love the look of your skin. Good luck on your skincare journey! 🤗🤗

@@soonsuicidal I’m a makeup fiend. RetinA isn’t going to have you peeling like a chemical peel will with strands of skin peeling. You will peel but you can adjust how often you use use RetinA or a retinol on your skin. It’s safe to use every night 7 nights per week. But you can adjust to a twice a week regimen and work from there. I always wear makeup and did at the time I started. Sometimes foundation looked great, sometimes it was clear I needed to exfoliate. You’ve got to make exfoliating a part of your skincare routine whether you decide to use RetinA or not. It can be a bit of a hump for some folks buts a MANAGEABLE hump. It truly is. If you’re getting too much peeling to wear makeup well, cut back the number of days you’re using it. RetinA is a totally manageable product that’ll help you with fine lines and wrinkles as well as minor texture of the skin. Try a drugstore retinol first since retinol isn’t as strong as RetinA to get your skin acclimated to it. Olay, The Ordinary, Roc, L’Oréal all make excellent retinol products that’ll get you on the road to improved skin. Also it can dry your skin out a bit so remember to keep your skin hydrated at all times. But I never stopped wearing makeup when I started on RetinA and don’t know that I would’ve kept with it if I couldn’t wear makeup. I definitely understand your concern. But it’ll be okay I promise. If it burns, stings causes breakouts stop immediately. That’s not normal but peeling is perfectly normal and manageable.

Sometimes I get off of it because I get lazy or forget to apply but I definitely notice a difference when I start using it again. If you decide to use this and go through the changes try to work through it because it's worth it after you get through the initial redness and irritation.
