I've been doing a lot of research and the criteria that you are using is similar to my own, and I agree about Pattaya and Bangkok lifestyle, etc. Chiang Mai seems the right place for me. Pretty much in agreement with your takes on Bangkok and Pattaya - Bangkok is a city with a capitol ´C´ and really only for those who like the constant activity and chaos of a large urban environment (Bogotá is practically an oasis of calm by comparison), and Pattaya is really all about the red light district nightlife - though avoidable if you choose not to live right in the thick of it. Haven't been up to Chang Mai yet, but am anxious to check it out and think I would appreciate the more chill vibe as well. One tip: time to lose the farang pronunciation of Pattaya - try it more like this - "Páw-te-yaw" - with the first syllable strongly accented and the last syllable a little stronger than the middle one...

SUVARNABHUMI is actually easy to pronounce! SOO-WANA-POOM . The word originates from the ancient Indian language of SANSKRIT. Thais do not sound out the letter (I) at the end.

did thailand .. well south east asia for 6month dont know, i really like meeting locals vs foreigners but i guess that language barrier makes it real hard decieded asia wasn't for me back in canada off to latin america next month hopefully it will be better
