Just came back from our 1st Disney cruise with a 6 year old and having been to a RCL cruise last December I agree with most of the stuff u say, ur summary and suggestion is quite accurate based on our own experience. For me, the 3 major differences between RCL and DCL r (1) Staterooms: DCL rooms feel more spacious, functional and feels newer even though it is not that new. (2) RCL’s entertainment venue beats Disney by a mile (unless u r a huge Disney fan), we find that DCL has very few shows and events (DCL has no Arcade nor Casino as well) (3) Food: DCL has no buffet option for dinner which is a huge issue for us as the kids were very impatient waiting for a food to come each day. I personally think the quality of food between DCL and RCL is similar but I prefer RCL as u scan be more flexible and there r more good choice on RCL than DCL.

We have gone on both cruises. Yes there is more luxury on the Disney cruise line but the truth is when it comes to price I can take my family twice a year on Royal Caribbean and pay the same that I paid just to go on Disney once a year. We enjoy both and can’t wait to be back on a cruise.

We have cruised Disney and tried the Marti Gras in November. We were thankful out of an abundance of caution (Covid) we didn’t bring the kids. There was a LOT of drinking, a TON of people, and teen issues. We did another Disney in December for Christmas with the kids. It was fabulous with low numbers and amazing character opportunity’s. Plus it is so beautiful during the holidays. Wanting to try different ships, we are booked on the Independence for 4th of July. I was so happy to see you branch out and on the very ship we will be sailing!

This was a really fair review! You broke both the facts and the experience down very clearly. I've only ever been on Royal and Princess ships, although I love Disney parks. Given how much effort getting to a port is for me, I have to make it worth my while time-wise. I don't think I can justify a 3-day Disney cruise for the travel costs. if my family was as Disney fan-ish as me, it would be an easier sell. For the cost of a Disney cruise, my husband would prefer to go on a more luxury line. I think you'd love the Oasis class ships- it's our favorite Royal class! I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Also, you might consider something like Celebrity or the Norwegian ships with a Haven class room, which have higher price points that may compare closer to Disney's luxury experience.

I have sailed on 18 RCCL cruises, but most recently sailed with Disney. RCCL not out of the question in future, however drawn to Disney and when it comes down to choosing, cannot book anything but Disney now. Love the pace and vibe, service, and food. Cost hurts, but willing to pay for experience. Just love Disney cruises and heading to Alaska on Wonder this July, and new Wish in December!!

Variety is great! I enjoys researching all the ship deck plans to pick the next ship experience. A few years ago the Royal Allure had many Dreamworks characters with shows, promenade parades, and a character breakfast. Nothing wrong with your main loyalty Disney. All cruising is fun and enjoy seeing your experiences on each.

Thank you for your fair review!!! I have cruised Oceana and Regent, both beyond amazing. However, in my opinion, cruising with Disney continues to rank above both luxury lines. I did my first b2b aboard the Disney Wonder in January, with 350 passengers! UNHEARD of! We had one dinner seating spread out between the three dining rooms, and it was magical and once in a lifetime. I want to try Celebrity, but I have several cruises booked aboard the Disney Wish. Unfortunately, I live in Utah, and flying across the country, with the potential of being disappointed with another cruise line at this time, is a hard pass. However, my mind is open to trying other lines in the future. Again, thank you!

Hey Michael! I think cruising, just like food, is quite subjective. People like different features and it really boils down to which feature a ship offers that attracts you the most. If you have younger children, then you can't go wrong with Disney but if your kids are older, then NCL, RCCL are probably your best bet. If your a bit older, like me, and no longer have younger kids, then Celebrity is just right in my opinion. For us specifically, there's more to consider when choosing a cruise line and a few factors we look at are: 1) The ship 2) Departure port 3) Itinerary 4) Length of cruise and 5) Cost of flights - we live in Canada so it's a bit part of our expense. But lets be a bit more realistic here... You can't really go wrong with any cruise! It's better to be sailing on the water than walking on land.

I haven’t been on Royal Caribbean so I have no basis for comparison. That said, we went on our first cruise on Disney cruise Line with a 16 year old and 14 year old boys. We hardly saw them. They spent so much time in Vibe. They made friends they couldn’t wait to go hang out with and really like the cast members who worked in that area. We’ve been on another DCL cruise since then and they can’t wait to go on another one. They are 22 and 20 now.

Five time Disney, about to go on my first time on Royal Oasis class when I first went on Royal it was only about a year after my last Disney trip and thought Disney was way Superior and they still are just not as big a margin as they used to be because of the difference in prices where that first Royal trip was only 10 20% cheaper now as you quoted it's a huge difference and to be honest in Disney is not the key Royal is definitely the way to go. If the price was the same I go back on Disney in a heartbeat

We love DCL and have been on it 5x before going on Royal Caribbean, Oasis class. The difference between the two gets even more blurry when you compare the latest and greatest on Royal to Disney. In fact, the Aqua show on the Oasis blew most of Disney’s shows out of the water. When you take the Disney aspect out of it. The newly redesigned Adventure ocean (new Royal ships or ones amplified) was also preferred by most of the kids in our group that were older than 8. The spaces look amazing and have great programming. I do agree with the food, the included food was better on Disney, overall. Specialty restaurants were excellent on Royal. Staterooms on the Oasis ship lacked storage and showed their age, but on Odyssey (or any of the newest ships) were better than Disney ships so far, minus the split baths. Also, could get a large Jr suite with a walk in closet and big bathroom for less than balcony Disney. With the Jr suite on the Oasis class you have access to dinner in Coastal kitchen which is better than main dining on Disney. Overall, we loved Royal Caribbean but in my opinion it really depends which ships you compare. I don’t think we would be loving the smaller, older Royal ships. We will still choose DCL but it’s no longer worth paying double for us. We are booked on the Disney Wish this August and are seriously looking at changing to Royal’s Odyssey or the Wonder… but both are in Europe this summer. :)

What about for a almost 5-year-old and 8-year-old aged kids for our first cruise? Thinking about between Disney fantasy, or one of the Oasis ships, My wife thinks the freedom or independence ships would be good enough for our first cruise but I beg to differ... The Oasis class versus Disney seems to be about 1,500 difference... For the same seven day. Bought a smaller Royal Caribbean ship it's like two and a half thousand less than Disney.... Don't know if it's worth it

@@swissmrkc It really depends but I think if you chose newer Oasis or one with the revamped Adventure ocean (kids programming) for example Wonder of the Seas, then I think you’ll be super happy. Otherwise I would try go get on the Disney Fantasy. 7 night Caribbean sailing is what I wills try to go for if you can. It’s just what I would do for the first Disney or Royal cruise. Once you go on Oasis and you see what they all have to offer, you’ll know if you’ll be happy to go on independence or something.

We’ve been on Royal and NCL. Royal and NCL are very comparable in our opinion; we’ve sailed the larger class of ships. As much as we love Disney ( our family goes annually), we just can’t justify spending the money on the Disney line when we can sail twice. We have a tween and teen and have found they have so much more for that age category then Disney. I’d love to see you try NCL Michael; the Breakaway class. Our favourites were the Getaway and Bliss. However, we personally liked the Getaway better because it had more to offer in terms of activities. The reason being the race track on the Bliss takes up so much ship space, it limited activities. The race track was cool, but you also have to pay for it so you’ll only ride so much.

Here is something to think about, I have been told most of the time a cruise line like Royal doesn't actually make money off the voyage until day 2 or 3. Disney is making money before they leave port. That is why it feels like Royal is trying to nickel and dime you, they are trying to make sure they make enough to make the voyage worth doing.

I've been on RC and Disnney and while Disney looks to be a lot more expensive there are some things that are included in the price on the website, such as food from room service, sodas, and other things, that get the prices a little closer. The Dream was absolutely spotless, and with the character greetings and the entertainment being top notch I still think that although pricey it is worth it to go with Disney.

I think a lot of these videos always just end up saying Disney is better which I would agree that f price is no object for that crown it’s a simple Disney vs Royal Carribean but for those who look at price I think what’s missed is if you comparing value it seems that most people are describing more things to do with other cruises aside from Disney for half or sometimes less than half of what cost on a Disney cruise….. I’m leaning toward believing other cruise options better especially for price if you care about money and if you just want better service and experience and money no object Disney the way to go….

While we still have kids under 10, DCL continues to be the way to go for us. In having sailed with Disney a few times, its our opinion that DCL caters to 1) young families and 2) older, kid free, Disney die hards looking to keep that magic going into their twenties and beyond. Once our kids are a bit older, we'll no doubt stop paying the premium for DCL and switch to Royal, Celebrity, Norwegian, etc. Well, that is until the grandkids come along, then right back to Disney!
