Virtual Dj is the best by far, been using it for years and works perfectly with my XDJ-XZ.

I've tried every program, however DJay Pro AI for MAC is my software of choice. I absolutely love it.

I started as a vinyl DJ, but been using Traktor and Serato with controllers for a few years, recently moved to Engine OS, Denon 6000m + A&H mixer and loving it. Love standalone gear, gives me the old skool vinyl vibe and choice of mixer without the Pioneer prices, there's just something about being on stand alone gear. Also the wifi streaming is great, I often just jump on and play brand new stuff from Beatsource without any need for prep - its liberating and a lot of fun. Highly recommend.

I'm in good company. I bought the lifetime Virtual DJ Pro's first incarnation in around 2003/2004 and have used it with several controllers and every incarnation of VDJ since. I've tried Traktor, Record Box, and Serato but for some reason I keep going back to VDJ. I just love it's automatic mapping, intuitive advanced features, and overall simplicity. If you want cheap, flexible, no-nonsense software with hundreds of unique features, but don't mind a bargain basement reputation then go for VDJ. I love it!

Phil I started out with Serato and the scratch live box, after having issues I tried Virtual DJ. That’s been the best discovery ever. VDJ is way tougher than the others and I’m surprised you don’t give them props when you do product reviews since you mostly talk about controllers with 2 reoccurring software. After using VDJ and going to other software you will realize so much how much is missed/lost. Also the reason why I had to return the prime 4, it sets me back. VDJ needs to come out with a controller like the Prime, with VDJ interface and HDMI out to connect to tv monitors.

VDJ Pro has been my go to since I started. I primarily just do laptop only and it was so easy to set up. I tried Serato since it was free with my Denon MCX8000 but I didn't like my initial experience with it. Same goes with Engine. It is almost like both of them expected you to already know what you are doing. I won't give up on them though.

It is definitely an important decision. I have changed far too much in 20+ months, curious to see whether anything is more appropriate. I have tried most Traktor, VDJ, Serato, Rekordbox, Engine, Djuiced. As you say, the worst part is changing between them. Having started with the Hercules 300 I purchased a single licence on VDJ, then the DDJ 400 and another single VDJ licence. I tend to use VDJ more than Rekordbox, but couldn’t tell you why. Loved Traktor, but it would alway glitch in the middle of a mix.

The best is what works for you. I grew up learning to DJ on vinyl and feel that I can adapt to whatever software I have to work with. There are a lot of commonalities in the software. Ultimately it is your choice of music that it is the most important criteria. I do currently use Serato with my Pioneer SZ2 controller for a lot of my gigs as a mobile DJ because of the tight integration between the controller and the software.

It's depending on DJ, for USB DJs is Rekordbox or Engine, for Hip-Hop/EDM DJs is Serato, for computer DJs is Traktor, dday, vdj and others...

I own Traktor SII MK2 hardware and at the moment Virtual DJ is the only option that enables me to play from my Tidal, Deezer, Soundcloud playlists. Mapping is flawless, thank you Virtual DJ until Traktor itself brings streaming services apart from Beatport/Beatsource Link.

I've just gotten back into DJing after 15 years off it. I've settled on Traktor Pro - picked up the S4MK3 and the TT jogs are pretty good. Added some additional NI gear, looking to more production/heavily remixing sets. Also, I've zero interest in streaming services.

When I started out DJing, I used Virtual DJ. I wasn't comfortable with Rekordbox at the time so I went to VDJ. It's good software for the purpose it serves. I recommend it for new DJs. When I purchase the DDJ 400, I was ready to use RB. Since RB 6 series came out, it was very useful for DJs who use controllers and play on the big DJ systems. I play with both. That's what makes RB stand out to me. I currently use the DDJ 800 with RB. I simply enjoyed playing with it. I take it out on gigs as my backup. Now, I am looking at the Numark Mixstream Pro. I don't plan on leaving RB or giving up on my 800. I like the fact that Mixstream Pro is a stand-alone and doesn't need a laptop. Also, I would like the fact the Engine DJ allows you to use your RB USB, and all your cue points and beat grids are kept and it's analyzed on the fly. Even RB don't do that on their CDJ 3000. When I do get the Mixstream Pro, it will be my new backup. When it comes to DJ software, there is no right or wrong way. I'm a Rekordbox user and will be for a long time. It doesn't mean I can't use hardware/software that will further assist me as a DJ. You should be flexible and well-rounded.

I just tried Virtual DJ and I love it! So clean, simple and well laid out. If only Spotify integrated with it then I would be addicted but for now I have to rely on Deezer which is much harder for me to find music on. (edit: I was able to transfer my Spotify music over to Deezer for use on Virtual DJ).

Algorridim DJay on the iPad is a game changer...plus they let you use multiple streaming services at the same time, unlike Serato. They do need input from America Urban DJs tho.

Virtual DJ looks to have the cleanest UI.

Virtual DJ and by far…. While it’s UI is terrible it has some decent templates. It’s flexibility makes it the best. It just does work… and it works well.

I don't have any controller, I just use my laptop, but using Virtual DJ and rekordbox are a very nice options for DJing with just your laptop, with all of the features, that you would normally use with a controller

now that we're on introductions, i must say that Phil has been with me for the past 10 years ever since i started with a vestax typhoon+traktor , moved to cdj 350, 800 then finally 1000's or nexuses whenever i have a show and i don't need to bring any gear. To this day i still regard traktor as the superior software and i would much rather have a full working version of it than anything else. I can't get past (psychologically) the years and years of running into VDJ and just having it crash or refuse to analyze correctly. Funny enough , a decade later..now i've ended up working for Hercules, and boy am i amazed on how things have changed, even DJUCED is more than decent. Coming back to this channel is like coming back home.

I have a licence for virtual dj,aerator,tractor and djay.Well I can say for sure that a combination of an iPad with the Reloop beatpad 2 is a game changer for me so I use this software and I have no problem at all!Greetings from Greece!

Phil Virtual DJ has a export Funktion for cdjs and even does stems of the track it’s exporting!

I used Virtual DJ for years and it was fantastic when moving from the 1210s and vinyl. Later, I moved to Traktor and it's excellent.

I looove djay Pro AI on Apple devices, but not only is the Windows version hopelessly out of date, it is also unstable! Microsoft had a Surface Studio + Surface dial demo in their store back in say, and that demo running djay Pro AI would crash all the time! I purchased the software from the Windows store myself, and it did the same. I’ve heard of no updates it’s gotten since then.

I hung up the headphones in 2012 (and am looking at coming back, hence why I'm here) but biggest problem with Rekordbox back then was just the export time (on Mac at least, no idea if Windows version was any better). It would take ages. Probably not a big deal if you're playing from a laptop though, but I can't stand playing from a laptop in the club, much prefer exporting to USB. That said, that's what I loved about Rekordbox though. I could export to USB for clubs/festivals, and if I was recording my radio show at home, I could stream straight from my laptop browsing straight from the CDJs, the experience was exactly the same.

Best software which does not require a subscription? Fully functional freeware or buy once/ unlock with controller.

I am a long time VDJ user, who is now trying out (even though this isn’t actually DJ software) MIXXX, and find its similar to VDJ.

Traktor scratch pro is my favourite!! I can Skratch juggle and it works !! Z2 mixer and windows or MacBook work awesome and set up wizard plugs you right in!!! And no worries 😌

Serato still won't let you ''Loop Roll'' over an active loop because Serato's Loop Roll effect uses the Loop Engine! With Traktor you can because the loop engine is separate from the FX engine! I love my Denon SC-6000M's for functionality but the sound quality is very digital & robotic when performing slow scratching moves or pressing stop with a 2 second stop time (like a technics SL stop) it just sounds terrible at slow speeds! But the Denon SC's sound fine when just playing a track and they have the best sounding time stretching algorithm. Traktor sounds amazing with DAW studio quality FX, I just with Traktor had Quantised Hot Cues like 1/2 1/4 not just 1/1

Serato would be so good if they’d optimize it for Apple Silicon, let you analyze your tracks whenever, let you stream music videos from TIDAL, and open up to other interfaces! That’s not a huge list!

I use Serato DJ Pro and Virtual DJ 2021 with my two Numark controllers and two laptop computers. I will add Engine OS in the future version of Numark Mixstream Pro after they improve it and take away those speakers.

VDJ is about twice as deep as the others, as it looks to me. It has a lot of nice things you keep discovering about it, like scripting, addon plugins, vst suport, ableton link (which I just noticed but didn't get to test).. For example they now added a smart fader script which duplicates the FLX4 function on any controller, and I bet it was easy to implement with their system.

I'm brand new to DJ'ing but I've got some Native Instruments gear and it lasts. Pioneer entry level controllers feel cheap and plastic so I'm going with Traktor. Sadly I can't afford Denon gear.

I was leaning toward Rekordbox and the DDJ-400. Now that the Rev 1 just debuted, I know Rev. 1 is the direction in equipment I want to go forward with. So, is Serato my only option? I wasn't too keen on Serato Lite after downloading and trying it out. Serato Lite didn't perform as well as Rekordbox nor Djay Pro on my computer. Hey, can i ask. Is VirtualDJ kind of jumpy in tracks for anyone else? I got the free version a few days ago and my tracks seem to be under the quality they should be. As in I have over 500 tracks and every one is bought over the iTunes store but alot of them sound pretty cheap and others tell me that the track needs to be bought when like I told you all my tracks are bought and paid for. I'd just like to know if when comes the day that I pay for the full software that this wont be an issue and if the Pro version is slightly more advanced in that sense. If any advice can be given here that would be awesome. Thanks

Phill be great if you could say which one has best audio quality for mixing. Odd thing is when you play a file on widows media player sounds sooooo much better. Cant get my head around it so many settings now on them all i have noticed some controllers dont have the best dac/audio converter inside. Wish someone told me 15 years ago to start downloading wav’s notice improvement

The Serato moiré on the Rane72 screen looks terrible, and Serato told me it was a Rane problem. But Virtual DJ's ripple effect looks great on the 72's screen! ! ! The difference is very obvious! Not a grade at all, what is the reason? ! !

which is the best that works well with denon prime 2, i ask because i had virtual dj 8 and payed for the pro just to find out many of my knobs didnt work. and customer support wasnt able to help me so i sadly have to cancel my membership. this has been a very big headache for me and i havent found any answers online. if you know which works best with the Prime 2, i cant wait to get this started. i know its already a stand a lone but theres a reason i want to use software . EDIT, after hearing everything i guess ill try out serato, if only i knew in advance i would of gotten a pioneer. they really are the best from the problems that i have been having. i just didnt get the because i didnt want to be like every other dj using a pioneer, i like to de different in everything in life

I have used OtsDJ/AV which does this for years but it is currently very outdated. I also need one that does dynamic audio processing (compression). Does anyone know of a good current product that outputs the list (top priority)?
