Those used to be very popular as they provide great power transfer. However, it's a lot more upkeep since the cleats are plastic and wear out pretty fast in a BMX environment. Some people still use them though so still a viable option!

I kinda wish clips weren't allowed in BMX racing. It would be more fun to race and watch and take a lot more skill if you didn't glue your feet to the bike. I know people that can't bunny hop a bike " without clips " .. using clips isn't jumping or bunny hopping lol, it's simply just lifting your legs up cheating if you ask me. How easy would a Ollie be on a skate board if you were strapped to that board? Defeats the whole purpose of skateboarding.

You can't take one side off because the other side would be missing one piece of the clip pedal mechanism.

What you call ‘clip pedals’ are actually’ clipless pedals’. There are flat pedals, flat pedals with toe clips, and now, clipless pedals.
