Hi Matt, Coming from a kite and windsurf background the leashes are so uncomfortable. I took a friend's advice on putting the wing leash on the shoulder of my life jacket. I'm a beginner so I have to wear a life jacket. I see the good wingers like you not having to wear a life jacket. The leash on the shoulder is out of the way and you feel so free. I have a waist leash and yeah it's a pain to untangle plus when I get up on the board to ride I end up stepping on it and stuck riding that way. I did see a video of a guy body dragging to his board but it's not that easy to body drag a stiff wing to get back to your board. Guys waterstart but you have to have a lot of wind to get pulled up and the board has to be quite small. I have to say Wing Foiling is a challenge. Windsurfing and Kitesurfing to me seems way easier but heck I'm challenged to learn this darn sport and you guys make the sport look awesome! Hardest part is the getting on the board and standing up which reminds of beginner windsurfing.

Great feedback. Any little hacks are always helpful and everyone likes their leashes a different way. As you progress they become less of an issue but it is still there. The body drag to the board works sometimes but is tricky. Not worth loosing the board and foil to me but cool to see people do it.

I use a coiled waist leash for my board. Agreed perfect for keeping it off the board. I’ve also made a copy of the nsi wingding hook ( I’m not cheap, the shipping to my country was more than the hook) It’s just a inch thick chopping board and slid onto my waist leash. Works really well and folds out of the way climbing back onto the board.

Hi. Good video topic thanks for making it. After lots of experimentation my personal choice is - waist board and wing leash and put up with the occasional tangles. Then my hands and feet are completely free when riding, and in strong winds paddling out is much easier. But you've given me an idea now of using a clip for the wing to waist connection so I can undo and untangle in the water when a bad tangle happens.

wing on belt leash and board on foot leash... with waves and wind i crash a lot of times and it works good! I also have to put them around properly but when you used to it works soo good.

A while back I started wearing my coiled ankle leash on my calf and now the leash finds its way under my feet much less often 👍

'Coiled bicep leash' is way better than a wrist leash. Specifically, leash attaches between bicep and elbow. Add some line to make the leash long enough to be able to reach all the way from the back to the front of the wing, ie: for those inevitable crashes when you end up at the clew. The leash then basically disappears for normal riding. Obviously can't to a 'pass the wing around the back' tack with this or a wrist leash. However, that seems to be the only disadvantage.

I like the Duotone coiled wrist leash. It doesn’t flap in my face when I pump the wing. It is a pain to paddle with though. One day I’ll try the waist to wing leash.

Cool. The coiled ones always knot up on me which makes them shorter and more in the way.

Got rid of my coiled duotone ones and swapped for FOne leash, much better and less flapping and swinging around.

I've started to question why I need a board leash for mainly light waves and flat water, never had a leash windsurfing? Current set up is waist coiled to board, this is great to stop underwater tangles. But wing leash is a must and I hate the coiled ones for that, too heavy, prefer the FOne leash on my Duotones.

Yeah with the foil board having a foil and a big tail, it will blow away from you much faster than a windsurfer with a rig. Once a little bump hits that tail...... That board is gone! I had plenty of swims trying to go with out a leash.

Considering moving my wing leash to my harness. How long (stretched) are the waist wing leashes? I wonder if you could simplify things by leashing the wing to the front of the board somehow. This would mean you’d only be attached the the board….🤔

Hmm. Not sure about that one but you could try. Wing waist leashes are generally about 5-6’

Regarding the question about length of the leash for the wing whether it's a wrist or waist attachment. I found I like the length unstretched to be equal (or longer) than the chord length on the wind wing. Because some crashes have to wing lying back down with trailing edge closest to you and in strong winds if the leash is shorter it cuts into the wing (and pushes the wing against the board) making it really hard to flip or spin the wing around so that the leading edge is towards you. This type of crash doesn't happen too often though. To me, most brand make their leashes too short with the exception of Ozone - they make theirs the right length IMHO. Regards.
