The fact that MK9 doesn’t have a remastered version yet is insane. We can play all the recent Netherrealm games, but if I wish to go back where it all began.. I can’t.

It gets worse for the original trilogy. The 360 store is shutting down at the end of July meaning the 2011 ports of those games will be gone for good

As someone living in Germany I feel this deeply. Mortal Kombat 1 - 9 are banned over here because they are "too violent". The only exceptions to that are Mortal Kombat vs DCU and Shaolin Monks, but despite being rated R Shaolin Monks is censored as fuck. The screen literally goes black every time a fatality or game over is triggered and only turns back on when the cutscene is over.

They should really release two collection games for modern systems, one for the arcade era of MK1-4 with the Chronicles games, and another for the 3D era from MKDA to DCU. That would be a way to bring all the old games back into the spotlight for the series, especially with how influential the series is since the very first game.

I know based on tweets from Ed Boon and the whole remake/remaster of OG Trilogy story that Matt McMuscles covered, is that Ed Boon seems to want to do this kinda stuff. But the higher-ups at WB don't seem to be interested, most likely cause they don't think it will be very profitable.

While I'd love to play MKT or the 3D Trilogy again. I'm not holding my breath. WB/NRS seem not to give a damn about the Midway era...

It honestly feels lucky nowadays to be a fan of a series that has 90% of its old games legally available on modern platforms. Like, if you're a Kingdom Hearts fan you can now own basically (and technically) the entire series (not counting the browser games) right now on PS4 and soon on Steam for some really good prices... but fuck you if you're a Mortal Kombat fan I guess.

I don’t understand why they haven’t ported these older games, I mean it’s easy money and people will buy them, what downsides are there to rereleasing these games? Especially the arcade games considering how much they love the throwback skins as said in the video. Also with MK1 apparently not doing as well as the previous titles (I mean if people are playing 11 more than the new game you’ve done something wrong) what’s the harm in just getting older games back out for people to spend their money on, honestly it’s ridiculous. One would think with how much they like to dump Mk2 and Mk3 skins left and right that they'd re-release the old games at some point already. Specially considering that old issues like MK Trilogy struggling to load Shang Tsung's morphs (and giving you the option to just turn into specific characters instead) and loading times could easily be fixed, among other things. It would also be such easy money. Hell I'd buy those in a heart beat, specially the ones I didn't get to play at the time for not having the console.

I don’t think it matters too much but MK2 is also playable in Shaolin Monks. I remember doing that to have access to it on the original xbox.

It’s even more frustrating when you’re a recent fan of the series, I myself have just been an MK fan since 2021 and only had access to MK9-MK11 at the time. But given how inconvenient the ways to play the other games are I had to emulate every other entry through Dolphin, Browser, PCSX2, or in DCU’s case buying it myself. The fact that MK keeps relying on the past and yet doesn’t want to make its history accessible is completely unacceptable. I swear Capcom and Sega are the only company’s that care about preserving the past.

It should be noted that the MK collection for 360 will be delisted along with hundreds of other games on June 29th this year

The thing about Mortal Kombat is that it's owned by Warner Bros, one of the largest media companies in the world. They could absolutely do some kind of new available versions of all these games, re-release MK9 and such and remove the licensed content, put it all into some kind of collection give it online features when they didn't have em....BUT! They probably think it'll eat into the sales of (Latest Mortal Kombat Game). It's stupid because I think someone who wants to play Mortal Kombat 4 isn't doing it at the expense of Mortal Kombat 1, if you think about it even a little. They probably just wanna play Mortal Kombat 4. It's still shocking the big anniversary just went by a year ago and there wasn't any attempt to bring any of the actual games back. Personally I would have thought back when Injustice and MK releases where leapfrogging each other releasing some of these old games might have been a way to keep the franchise pumping. Then again I'm not a genius like the execs at WB.

A reminder that one of the easiest ways to play Puzzle Kombat is that it's in the DS port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, so the bonus games are arguably easier to play than the full games they're attached to.

Besides some characters in the roster NRS doesn't really give a shit about its past. Its embarrassing that capcom which tends to ignore some of its IPs acknowledges its past games more than NRS. You can easily play a shit load of versions of the SF games right now. Same goes for mega man as you have the original run, x, zero and even all the BN games. Hell darkstalkers an IP that capcom seems to refuse to give a new entry to got a collection with different versions along with arcade games never brought to consoles. NRS had their chance to actually celebrate their big anniversary with a collection. Even just a dam 3d era games since M1K brought some of those faces back so releasing that collection could show new players how these characters were originally. As you can tell I'm pissed off and that's cause MK has always been my favorite fighting series and it sucks theres no real good way besides emulation to play any of the past titles.

I own almost every Mortal Kombat game. I got the Arcade Collection from the PS3. I still have in installed on that console. I still own that PS2 MK collection box that includes MK Deception, Shaolin Monks, and Armageddon. I even still have my old PS2. Back in high school, I had Spider-Man Web of Shadows for the PS2. A friend of mine had a copy of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, so I traded my game for his. I still own MK vs DC for the PS3. And I have the physical copy of MK9 Ultimate Edition. I currently have MKX on my PS4. I don't technically have MK11, but my brother gave me his PS4 abd acess to his account once he switched to PC.

It's WILD that MK9 isn't on modern consoles

I remember back in HS badly wanting Xbox to make Shaolin Monks backwards compatible on the 360. It never happened and to this day there is no way of playing that game outside of emulation. Luckily, PS2 emulation is better than ever on PC so I don't care anymore but, it's sad that the general public doesn't have these games easily accessible anymore.

In case anyone is watching this video before july 29th 2024 you can still get mortal kombat arcade collection on the xbox 360 but if you want it you are going to have to get it quick because once the xbox 360 store closes on the 29th you will no longer be able to buy it hope this helps someone.

I think the arcade collection being purchasable on the 360 store is a half truth. Bought it maybe 2 years ago there and it REFUSED to download past 77%, and when I talked to a rep they said something to the effect of I shouldn't have been able to buy it

MK Trilogy on GOG is a somewhat decent modernization of the original Windows release of the game but you still need that fan patch to fix lingering issues so its still not the ideal version it really should be.

It's weird that Dead or Alive of all franchises is better preserved and easier to legally obtain. (Assuming you own an Xbox One or Series console. Also not dismissing the series' quality.)

You gotta mention too that the Mortal Kombat Kollection on 360 will be gone once the 360 marketplace leaves at the end of July.

When street fighter is doing a better job at preserving the past then mortal kombat you know something is horribly horribly wrong. You would think that we would have gone like a collection for the original 3 games on modern platforms as well as the 3D games from that particular time period but no we still just have the newer titles and even half of them are not available to everywhere. And it sucks because Shaolin monks is a really really good spin-off title but yet it stuck on the PS2. And with the guest characters being more and more of a thing in later entries it's just gonna make trying to preserve the newer games even more of a problem. I'm glad we've been getting all these mega man collections because otherwise it would have been like mortal kombat.

The Mugen community of all things is doing a way better service to and representation the classic games than WB and NRS ever will, not just the MVC styled stuff but also just straight up emulating the style of MK1-3, and in some cases with scary accuracy even before all the AI bs came around.

Unless there’s some legal mumbo jumbo involved, I have no idea why WB and NRS haven’t released a 3D era collection on modern systems. You KNOW people would pay 60 bucks for a collection of DA, Deception, Armageddon and Shaolin Monks, that would be a great value.

Mk1-4 can be released as a bundle, such as PS2 games+MK vs DCU. Both separately. Something akin to what Sony did with God of War Collection on a PS3. Not only this will please an OG midway fans and allow younger audience to learn the history of MK but WB can also sell this two collections sixty bucks each. I highly doubt that fans will be mad cause paying full price for a bundle of 4 games is not that bad.

It's not just Mortal Kombat, but other Midway games as well. Just like the original trilogy, there are a few select games from Midway are on the MK Arcade 1up machine. There hasn't been a Midway compilation since Midway Arcade Origins for PS3 and Xbox 360 and Lego Dimensions via the Midway Arcade pack for 7th and 8th gen consoles with the later being a toys to life game. It would be cool if Warner Bros made another Midway collection in the likeness of the Atari 50th collection for modern consoles and Steam. Then again, I feel Warner Bros doesn't think that will sell since MK was Midway's golden goose when they checked out of the coin-op market. At least I have Midway Arcade Treasures 1 & 2 on my PS2 to play until then.

I would love a MK Kollection for modern platforms. Specifically the 3D era. I miss the Konquest mode of MK Deception and would love to replay that.

In the event re-releases of 3D era games do finally happen, I hope Deception can at least either be the US-exclusive GameCube version which added Shao Khan and Goro to make up for not having online play on that version, or if possible, have it be Unchained with console quality models and graphics, as I imagine Unchained downgraded them slightly because of tech differences between the PS2 and the PSP. Likewise, Armageddon should be the Wii version with Khameleon, though obviously, the motion controls would no doubt be removed aside from the Switch version as the optional feature they were on the Wii. And Shaolin Monks would be nice to have MK2 accessible in all versions given some regions removed it for ratings/censorship reason, usually down to them being unable to get it cleared for its inclusion in those regions.

And this is why I'll always defend anyone's decision to emulate. It's not just about money, it's about preservation and enjoyment of things companies don't want us to enjoy anymore. WB don't want ports because if you're playing old games, who's going to be buying skins and kombat packs?

Pretty sure it's impossible for the 3d era games you ever be rereleased since they were made with the render ware engine which is know owned by EA. The only way they can be rereleased is to be ported to a new engine which would take years to do for each game.

On the 17 mains games (i count the remake in), 6 of them are physicly foundable only in Japan, so good Luck for founding the famicom and super famicom for the fives firsts and the GBA cardrige for a price less than 2 Haslab Unicron (fe 1 shadow dragon was for a moment digitaly obtainable in Switch but not anymore and good Luck for the limited physic release ), and the spin-off archanea saga, who's Satellawiew exclusive. For international releases, Fe7 is on the NSO but lacks the bonus content from the Mario kart bonus disc and fe8 is (for the moment) unobtainable since the Wii U server are gone and the Tellius saga cost today more than 200 bucks. The archanea games are on The DS, but the remake of fe3 is locked in Japan.The 3 3ds games are recently unobtainable thanks the 3ds servers being stopped and the dlc undownloadable, the last two suffers also of needing amiibo (this, the locked in Japan dlc and the censorship make fates impossible to play in full conditions). For the moment the only games obtainable easily are Fe7, Three Houses and Engages for the main entries, the warriors games, Tokyo mirage sessions and fe hereos . Of 22 fe games, only 7 are accessible, this is ludicrous.

I have the GOG version of MK Trilogy, and I can tell you it is just the PS1 version of the game. I personally wanted to play the N64 version, but I guess that's what emulation is for.

I’m lucky enough to play the entirety of the 3D era on their original hardware, and let me me just say that I DO NOT enjoy playing with a GameCube controller when it comes to Deadly Alliance and Deception. It makes the inputs feel really strange to do, and I honestly would’ve preferred a more traditional controller, which was only amplified after playing Armageddon on the PS2. I got to play Shaolin Monks with one of my brothers which was also on the PS2 release. I happen to also own the original Xbox releases of Deadly Alliance and Deception, but unfortunately I never owned the original Xbox. I still have my copy of MKVDCU, which I believe was my first MK. Fortunately, it still works and is backwards compatible. For the sake of it, I may as well run through which releases of each game I got to play without emulation: MK1: Arcade 1UP, Arcade Kollection. MK2: Arcade 1UP, Arcade Kollection, Arcade. MK3: None UMK3: Arcade 1UP, Arcade Kollection MKT: None MKMSZ: None MK4: None MKG: None MKSF: None MKDA: GameCube, PS2? MKD: GameCube, PS2 MKA: PS2 MKSM: PS2 MK9: 360, PS3 MKX/MKXL: XBO, PS4 MK11: XBO M1K: None Yeah… there’s a notable lack of games from around MK4’s time. I have a friend who actually owns a Dreamcast, but he doesn’t own MKG, it’s just Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2.

Why I am very very happy to still own a PS2 and play it often. Deception for the win. But yes - more ports!

When you say "MK1", I get that you're talking about Mortal Kombat which was released in 1992, but it just goes to show how stupid the naming convention is when it comes to this franchise. There's Mortal Kombat, the franchise as a whole. The aforementioned game that was released in 1992. Mortal Kombat, a movie released in 1995. Mortal Kombat, a game released in 2011. Granted, it's referred to as MK9, but that isn't the name of the game. Mortal Kombat, a movie that was released in 2021. Mortal Kombat 1, which is how most people referred to Mortal Kombat (1992) for the longest time.

To this day I’ll never understand why WB and NRS didn’t allow Microsoft to make the OG Xbox MK games backwards compatible. They could have tried to enhance those games without NRS and WB needing to do anything other than agree.
