*EDIT* A viewer has made me aware that the Arteza pencils in the video are 'Arteza Premium' pencils and not 'Arteza Expert' pencils. Apologies for getting the two sets mixed up and any incorrect information provided in the video. In Today's video, we are taking a look at the Prismacolor Premier Pro pencils compared to the Arteza Premium pencils to see which ones are the best! We will be taking a look at the pro's & con's of both, from their build quality, blending, layering & burnishing, colour range, sets, price, lightfastness, and more! Also, don't forget to check out my new skillshare class & grab yourself a free trial period as well! skl.sh/3DmGMeY

I appreciate the video greatly. I started out with Berol about a century ago and stuck with Prismacolor all these years. I am glad to know about Arteza and ordered a set of them. A cheaper alternative and possibly different shades is welcome. Thanks!

I prefer Arteza Prisma are very expensive now and the quility is extremely bad wood breaks right down they break all the time and off centre, the only good thing is the core when they don’t break that is, Arteza are better priced and better quility and I love the colours

I bought a prismacolor set and I’m very frustrated about the leads breaking. Sometimes the lead breaks in the exact moment that the pencil touches the paper. The color are beautiful, but visually is possible to see that the material used to make the pencils are very bad.

Im having good luck with my prismas. They were shipped. I think alot of the issues is from the pencils getting beat up and banged around and the box they come in isnt made to take that. Anyway have a good ern

A Prismacolor set of 12 can be purchased for $13 in US, and a 150 set for $96 when not on sale. Arteza is showing the same prices you listed, ignoring the current 20% discount. I would have liked to have seen top shots of all of the circle swatches you did after completing them. Many tests ended with a side shot and then you moved onto the next test without showing the final results. It was clear the Prismacolors won most categories, but Arteza seems decent, especially for those on a tight budget. For $26 more, an open stock option is cheaper to replace pencils than having to buy a whole new set when frequent and favorite colors run low, like black. That being said, I want to get Polychromos because they are more durable. lol

Hi Linda, I said in the video that prices may vary depending on where you buy them from and where you live. I live in the UK and prismacolors are far more expensive here due to import fees. Arteza is a lot cheaper for me, but I did state in the video that prices vary, even put an annotation in. Thank you for suggesting more shots. This comparison is my personal view of these two brands, but not everyone will agree with me, I like both sets.. they are similar but there’s differences as well.
@HomeLifeWithLove2 жыл бұрын
@@AmyLouiseArt I could tell you are in the UK, which is why I shared US prices. I was confused about why you used dollars and not pounds for the costs, so I wondered if US prices were used. I don’t know much about UK currency. There isn’t as big of a price difference here, so performance is even more important. I’m not saying your opinion is wrong. My personal takeaway from what I saw in your tests were that Prismacolor did better. :)

I prefer Arteza because it has break lead resistant and has a vivid colors and very well at blending I know it is also a waxed base like Prisma but I still prefer Arteza to buy because it's affordable and high quality.

You have made a very in depth video and thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, it's very helpful. But there are some things that I would like to comment. First of all, theese are not Arteza Expert, they are the Arteza Premium. The premiums have a different core, and are also semi water soluble (you can blend them with water, they don't move as much as a watercolor pencil, more like if you were using a solvent). Check out Sarah Renae Clark, she have tested several pencils for this semi water soluble thing. I really like this feature, actually. But the 120 set of Arteza Expert are not semi water soluble (however, the old sets were and I love them!!). I bought the 120 set but didn't like them at all. They had this "sticky" feel and were very crumbly. You can buy pencils from the Expert 120 set open stock, but not from the premium set. Also, Arteza have not stated how they have tested their pencils so their lightfast ratings can not be trusted. And if you didn't notice, + is the highest rating and ++++ is the lowest. Pinks will never be more lightfast than blacks and browns. The only reason for me to buy theese is actually their semi water soluble characteristics (if the performance and feel is nice). And by watching this video, they seem to be pretty nice!

Hi Sara! Thank you very much for such an insightful comment! I always try my best to provide accurate information but sometimes I make mistakes and it means a lot when viewers reach out and let me know when information isn't quite right. I'm going to update my video title and description to reflect that these are the premium set and not expert. Thank you so much for pointing all this info out! 🙂

Arteza now sell affordable open stock single color sets on their website. Apparently their lightfast ratings are of dubious origin. Another thing apparently another artist on KZfaq swears that Amazon Basic colored pencils are actually Prismacolor in disguise. Given all that I thing Arteza still.takes it away on value. They are definitely trying to offer a competitive product.

Hi amy! I want to ask what do you think about derwent lightfast? Would a set of 72 is okay? Please give yout honest and personal opinion watching you for a long time it would help me a lot.
@AmyLouiseArt2 жыл бұрын
I have a set of 12 Derwent light-fast pencils and I think they are great! They are oil pencils but they aren't as hard as the Faber Castell polychromos pencils, so they are quite creamy and buttery, but still great for details. You would be able to use them for portraits and animal drawings as they are a mix of soft and hardcore. Also the light-fast pencils are extremely good quality with amazing light-fast ratings. So will be durable and resistance to fading. A set of 72 pencils will give you more than enough range of colours although they are expensive 🙂 you could buy a smaller set of them and mix colours together to stretch your colours further if you wanted to save some money 🙂

The breakage is due to the core not being glued down to the pencil cases.

Hi Tabby, I’m not sure what you mean. Would you be able to explain please? 😊
@tabbylynn41302 жыл бұрын
@@AmyLouiseArt Most pencils are glued down the core and it keeps the core from shattering if you drop it but prisma is not that’s why the inside will shatter or even fall out because they aren’t glued down to the inside of the barrel. It’s kind of hard to explain without being in person and showing you with a pencil. Lol. Sorry if it isn’t clear to understand.

I have the Prismacolor pencils. Is it worth it to buy the Arteza, also? Is there enough of a difference in color range?
@AmyLouiseArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica, it really is entirely up to you. They are both great pencils and very similar. For example, they are both wax pencils so are quite soft and creamy, great for blending and layering colours. In terms of colour range, you can buy both in large sets, the prismacolor go up to 150 pencils and Arteza 120 pencils I believe. There would be more than enough colour range here for both sets. However, if you have smaller sets then you will have less colours. What I’ve found with smaller sets is that prismacolor has a better range of flesh/ natural tones & Arteza has a better range of vibrant tones 😊 but you can always make new colours from smaller sets by mixing colours together. I hope this helps 😊
