Portable Air Conditioners are a great way to extend your camping season, protect your pets and cool a small room during a power outage. The Sunjoy IceCove is the new kid on the block with excellent performance and great features but how does it compare to the established Zero Breeze Mk 2?

Zero Breeze does have a power "extension dock" that will let you charge and run the unit simultaneously. That and a 12V to 24V converter is what we have set up in our trailer. It works pretty well. It's really good to see more competition in this product segment!

That was a vital piece of information for me , since I run a 200ah lithium battery with no inverters , let alone the power loss when running an inverter all night since I don't wanna buy the battery that comes with the unit , it's pretty much useless for my setup , thanks 🙏🏻

I'm guessing the power loss on a 12-24v inverter/converter is much better than a 110/220v inverter , no ?

It's also true that the power consumption of the Ecoflow is much more, and this CAN be a make or break thing, depending on your battery system. Another thing you didn't note is that the Zero Breeze units drawing it's intake air from the front allows you to poke the nose into the space you're cooling, and recirc the already cooled air back through the coils again. The Ice Cove unit's drawing from the side means you would need to have the whole unit inside with you to utilize and recirc the return air, and the intake to the condenser coil side would be blowing the already cooled air straight back outside...This would make a big difference in the comfort level in the space, as the pre dehumidified and cooled air would not only get even cooler on the Zero Breeze, but the energy used doing it would be significantly less as well. The air stream filters would last a lot longer on the Zero Breeze system when used this way as well since you wouldn't be sucking dust from outdoors in.

Hoping more of these get released to the point they start competing on price. Nice to see another option, but if it doesn't materially cost less than other options, I'd be likely to go with the proven brand. Given the price of small home AC units, I think there's a lot of potential for downward pressure on prices. I realize the lithium batteries add a lot to the cost, but I think most people buying one of these are likely to already have a power station. Manufacturers would do well to make units more compatible with people's existing power solutions rather than adding dedicated batteries and driving the price up in the 4-figure range. Once a solid option exists in the $4-500 range I think you'll start to see a lot more widespread adoption

I think zero breeze would be more efficient if you use it right, using the system inside, set up the exhaust and intake for the condenser side out the window that would use outdoor air to exhaust hot condenser temps outdoors, if you use the system outside you would have to run the evap exhaust pipe inside the tent and the return air for the evap inside as well that’s the most efficient way to use these battery will last long hvac tech here

Thank you for the review of both of those. I want to get some kind of air-conditioner for my 5 X 10 Hiker Trailer. I'm on the West Coast and its a dry, really hot heat. I have a Yeti 1000X, 100 watt solar panel, wiring and a switch for a battery. I'm researching Battle Born Batteries for the air conditioner. I'm trying to calculate how long an air conditioner will run on the 100 amp lithium and I need to figure out how to charge and store the battery.

Nice video thank you! One thing I would say though is that the IceCove may be designed to be placed inside so it is pulling the hot air from the tent and blowing it out. May work better that way. Same reason the Zero Breeze has the hose for intake to pull from the tent?
@ryansheard8092
@ryansheard8092 15 күн бұрын
My question is, wouldn't they work better being inside the tent with an exhaust hose run outside? I'd think pushing the hot air out while pumping the cold air in would be most effective. I'd love to see a test of cooling times and temps with that setup vs what you did. Great video! I live in TX and NEED a solution for a Patriot Camper X1 with a 6 person configuration (extra kids tent added on).

Just curious how the Icecove removes humidity inside the tent when the units return air is outside on the air conditioner? My ZeroBreeze has 2 hoses on the front one for return air and one to supply the cold air. I usually set mine outside too. I like the bigger battery on the Icecove. I'm waiting on specs for the new ZeroBreeze Mark 3 supposedly a couple pounds more then the Mark 2 but 5200 BTU.

So if the air intake on the side and the cooling port is one loop, the ice whatever must be bringing in cold air and exhausting hot through the same tube, the way the stand up window air conditioners do. Hard to see how they can keep the two streams separated doing this in the same tube without mixing. I understood the purpose of the two tubes on the outside loop for the Zero Breeze were to separate the cold intake in the hot out.

Beware of two things I find deceptive in the advertising of this AC unit: • NOT LIFEPO4 BATTERIES Although the Sunjoy page advertising the Icecove claims repeatedly that its batteries are "Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries" which are much preferred and rated at 3000+ charging cycles, THEY ARE NOT. The actual specs table at the bottom states: "Battery Type: "Lithium-ion polymer batteries" which only recharge 1000 times and are subject to thermal runaways. • NOT WEATHER PROOF Photos and videos showing this unit outdoors pumping AC into tents and campers are deceptive. I contacted Sunjoy and confirmed that the unit is not weather proof. It can't be used this way if it is raining. My question and answer did not appear on the page.

The IceCove Portable Air Conditioner has a cooling capacity of 2500 BTU12. This makes it suitable for small spaces, such as tents, RVs, or small rooms. For a room size of 10x14 feet (approximately 140 square feet), the IceCove should be able to provide adequate cooling, especially if the room is well-insulated and the outside temperature isn’t extremely high.
