Those three inverters have very different power capabilities. The Milwaukee at 175w. The Ryobi at 150W and the DeWalt at 100W (140W peak). So it's not surprising that the small 100W DeWalt couldn't power the larger loads like the Milwaukee packout light rated at 384W (but could probably run on much less). The DeWalt is designed to be used in a vehicle where you don't want it to be drawing a large amount of current (over 120W or so) or it will start blowing the fuse on the 12V outlet. If you want to power larger loads you could try the larger DeWalt DCB1800B which has 1800W of power and runs on the 20V or FLEXVOLT batteries. I really like the Milwaukee inverter as it has USB-C PD at 45W.
@jeffostroff3 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct and yet I still wonder why the dwelt could not even handle charging my phone
@zjedinite Жыл бұрын
Thanks for clearing that up bc I too was confused. Either DeWalt comes out with one like Milwaukee or thinking I could use a battery adapter from DeWalt to Milwaukee. What are your thoughts on that as you seem to know what you are talking about, at least you know a heck more then me. I have like 30 DeWalt batteries so need to keep it in this line. So Dewalt battery adapter with adapter on that Milwaukee unit. Yay or nay?
@wiredkat Жыл бұрын
@@zjedinite A lot depends on exactly what you want to power with it. If you're going to be using it mostly for powering USB devices from DeWalt batteries then something like the DeWalt DCB094K USB charging kit could be a good choice. It is a bit pricey for what it is but if you have a lot of DeWalt batteries it might be a good choice. It can output 100W on USB C or 12W on a USB A port. So you could power a wide range of devices from older phones to some newer laptops. If you want to mainly use the 120V outlet then it really depends on what you want to run. DeWalt does have the DCB1800B that can handle 1800 W of power. The small DeWalt unit that Jeff showed in the video only runs off of a car 12V outlet and can only handle 100 W continuous power. The Milwaukee top-off does 175 W but that is still not that much and you'd have the problem of getting it to work with theDeWalt batteries. You could probably run the Milwaukee top-off from a DeWalt battery but there are some things you might want to be careful of. For example each tool/battery manufacturer has a system to make sure that the battery doesn't get run down past a level where it would be damaged and not able to be recharged. I believe that for Milwaukee that this is handled by the tool. So most likely the top-off would shut itself off before it drained the DeWalt battery past the point where the battery was damaged. However you'd likely want to test that on a DeWalt battery you didn't care too much about before taking the chance of ruining a good battery. I just noticed that others have used a DeWalt to Milwaukee adapter with the Milwaukee inverter so it should work. Another general point to keep in mind is that most of these small battery powered inverters for 120 V will output a modified sine wave. So it's not the same as a pure sine wave like you would get from a home outlet. You can run a lot of things on a modified sine wave but some sorts of power supplies can be damaged by it. So for the question of whether or not to run the Milwaukee top-off from a DeWalt battery I'd say it depends on exactly what you want to power with it.
@zjedinite Жыл бұрын
@@wiredkat thanks for your detailed reply. After taking your info into consideration and watching other videos explaining how this unit is more of a “Modified Sine Wave” whatever that means lol I’ve decided to do it right and just spend the money. So for emergency home use if power outage I’m gonna pick up the DCB1800B And for phone and simple stuff gonna pick up DCB090. The newer model has that c port but I’m not really looking for speed charging. There are a lot of aftermarket companies offerings convertible to be used with DeWALT batteries but since this is not my field of expertise I’m thinking on staying with brand name. The reason I was so interested on this Milwaukee unit is due to a video I saw on a reputable tool reviews channel. “Belts And Boxes a single Milwaukee M18 battery powered our entire studio” I was like “WTF!? I need to own that” now I know, curious on your thoughts of that video. Maybe you could shed much needed guidance on that channel so people like me don’t just go out and buy one based on what I now think it’s a ridiculous review by Belts and Boxes. Not sure if someone else has said in the comments yet, but DeWalt does make an inverter. But it's in a completely separate class. It's called the DeWalt power station. If you plug it into a wall, it can charge up to four batteries at once. Alternatively, you can use for batteries and turn it on as a power inverter and it's capable of up to 1800 wattd of continuous output. But as you can tell by that mention of 1800 watts and the $500 price point but it's in a completely separate class from the Ryobi in the Milwaukee listed here.

can you test out the square wave theory by plugging in a true sine wave computer battery backup into the inverters then the TV into the battery backup? that way the battery backup would clean up the voltage then do the tests over again. run times would obviously increase as well with the battery backup but i wonder if the inverters can keep the battery backup running .... ? will it supply enough power to keep the battery backup from running on its own without kicking in the battery backup. might be a great way to use the inverters in power blackouts????

OLED tv’s are essentially millions of tiny LED’s. That’s a major simplification and not at all what’s actually happening, but in terms of power usage, think of it that way. For a 4K OLED tv, that’s 8.29 MILLION led’s, or cells. Each cell will draw more power the brighter it gets. So an all white screen (similar to what you might see on a welcome screen or an app) is drawing substantially more power than a 2.39:1 ratio dark movie with thick black (unpowered) bars at the top and bottom. It would be interesting to run this test on an LED tv.

Not sure if being a modified sine wave inverter has anything to do with it. The TV may not like that.
@jeffostroff2 жыл бұрын
That TV was finicky. Most of these units likely put out what we call a dirty sine wave, not a perfect curve, but easier to generate square waves and try to round them off.

Can the inverter power the electric tools of their brands
@jeffostroff3 жыл бұрын
As long as you don't exceed and amp of current draw it should be able to handle them so that would mean if you're operating them at low speed but I would think once you start getting up there in speed in your tool stretch to increase the current requirements then it will trip the unit into turning off

This is really difficult as I own two of the three Milwaukee and Ryobi brand will only let you invert power from their battery DeWalt gives you a better option going into a cigarette lighter this can be pulled from many other sources the bad part is none of them are equipped with alligator clips they seem to want to keep this inverter business in house the first one who comes out with alligator clips wins I'm not a gambler but I'm sure to bet on this.

Ryobi has an 300 watt inverter for their 40 volt battery. Amazon has a Dewalt 20v battery to M18 Milwaukee tool adapter for ~$28. Then you could run that Milwaukee inverter off your DeWalt 20v batteries or be able to use on any M18 tool. I don't think it will handle a Flexvolt 20v60v battery but maybe the 6amp flexvolt could work. www.amazon.com/dp/B08C2PS5VK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_GNTXPX1V0DSXN2JE660Q

@socalrws3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffostroff there's a pwba in there to regulate voltage or something. Cost is high,but any low production item will cost more. The competitors are higher priced. $28 to use batteries you already have is a lot less money than buying M18 batteries. It means I can buy milwaukee bare tools to add to my collection. That $100.00 170watt M18 power inverter is high priced compared to other inverters not fitted to M18 batteries. The 800 watt inverter that runs my Traeger Scout pellet grill is $50. I'm wondering if I can run it on 18 volt Dewalt batteries using a step down zener diodes to make it work at 12 volts.
