Approximate shake times: AC/Delco: 13 sec, Swepco: 17 sec, AGR: 15 sec (Times taken from video time bar). Jay Dee is right: "foaming" test (if this can be called that) SHOULD be redone with fluids at engine running temperature (± 190F or 88C). And, if you could get access to a paint shaker with timer (for agitation consistency), the better.

Looks like SWEPCO has the clearest fluid, it moves it's air to the top faster... But the test is worthless if not at temperature.

On a forum somewhere some people have found the Swepco fluid to be compatible with systems that requre CHF-11S. I am not sure if those people are still using it in their cars . It should be noted that with cars that take the Pentosin fluids, it is very risky to buy a universal fluid. A lot of cars are like this if and can develop fluid leaks and other problems. It is expensive to drop and replace a steering rack too. I am not sure how CHF-11S and CHF-202 compare to the fluids you show but they are both excellent fluids commonly used in European cars. They use a low viscosity fluid and that might be partly because some of the places where they are sold are cold. Temperature is not the one and only reason to choose a fluid because some fluids will cause problems with some cars. Take Honda for instance, they are notoriously finicky about fluids.

One thing that is noticeable different is the color. The AGR fluid is alot lighter in color. Don't know if that means anything, but it's just something that I did notice.

Good video thanks. Unfortunately, yesterday I just purchased a bunch of swepco 715 and flush from Summit . Do you recommend any specific way of flushing? Any opinion on mixing swepco 715 with regular generic fluid... I'm thinking only on trail repair. For full hydro big tire rock crawler

Yes, because have a low viscosity, low surface tension fluid (which is what this test actually measures) is what makes the difference between good and bad fluid. I mean its not like GM would design a power steering fluid for a GM power steering systems pressures and flow characteristics right? Or that most systems don't actually ingest air, instead bubbles are cause by cavitation which is prevented by a different means? Interestingly enough I can't find any actual specs on this fluid, like pour point, viscosity at temperature, or what certifications this fluid meets. Stuff that's important when selecting the proper fluid. This tells me is that AGR is more about marketing info disguised as tech info for those that don't know any better rather than about actual engineering.

I would like to see it compared against pentosin chf. I get that foaming is a big concern in hydraulic systems but there are other very important things I am interested in such as thermal breakdown. Is the anti foaming the only place this fluid beats the competition?

Auto Repair Tips we tested and reverse engineered over 30 fluids before developing our own formula. There is so much information that just couldn’t be communicated in a typed message but I don’t mind going over data sheets if you are a hydraulic geek like me over the phone. As far as thermal breakdown, you can see the video I’m about to do addressing heat ranges and synthetics but the jist of that answer is thermal breakdown should NEVER be something to really consider when talking power steering fluid because MAX REDLINE temps for any metal on metal vein design pump should NEVER exceed 180 degrees. That’s when the veins start to melt and cause metal transfer between parts and self district. Fluids claiming thermal protection above those temps are just marketing when in a power steering fluid application however our fluid does resists thermal breakdown exceeding 300 degrees so the fluid may take the heat but the pump will never survive.

Pentosin is good stuff, I have read about people comparing it to aviation hydraulic fluid both in price and performance. CHF 202 will still pour at -65 degrees Fahrenheit. At those temperatures most other types of fluids will freeze or thicken.

Stupid question. I used to run an air fuel separator on my diesel. Can't you use the same principle for this?

I have heard of some Volkswagen owners using Swepco 715. Is it a low viscosity fluid similar to CHF 202? It must be really good stuff if VW owners would use it. The steering racks and pumps in those cars are sensitive to fluid quality. I own a 2013 Passat and tend to stick to the CHF 202. It is expensive but you don't need a lot of it and that would be better than having to replace your power steering pump and rack. BMW and other European and German cars are like this too. It would take some convincing to get me to switch to other fluids. A lot of parts stores now carry Pentosin fluids too so CHF 11S and CHF 202 are not hard to get. If they don't have it they can usually order it for you.

Charles Hines I’ve not tested the CHF but I believe it to be good fluid quality because I’ve never had someone tell me they use it and have troubles like so many other fluids!

@@Steeringproshop Although it is considerably more expensive than other fluids even ATF some people have switched their car over to it and said positive things. What I would do is keep some of the fluid that you used to use around just in case the switch causes a problem. This way you can change it back if for some reason it caused a problem. Other fluids that are used in place of CHF 11S and 202 are Febi Bilstein 06161 for 11S and there is 46161 for 202 but good luck finding a reasonable price to get that one in the USA. A lot of eBay sellers who have it list insane shipping fees. These sellers are usually overseas some place. The fluids used in our cars are easily distinguished by a green dye. I am not sure if the green color for it came about because of some sort of German regulation or to help people tell that the leak is the power steering and not the transmission. There is a ZF transmission fluid that is also green as if there is not enough confusion for some people already.

Okay, low tech good results, but though my knowledge of hydraulics is limited along with fluid dynamics arent most systems supposed to be purged of air before put back into service thus preventing cavitation and unable to introduce air causing the bubbles and foaming? I could see how many fords, jeeps, and gm pumps could have this problem with the reservoir attached to the pump. Most of the equipment I work with has been abused and neglected so leaks and the signature whine is very common. The test of longevity and lubrication is something I would like to see

TheBegoing cavitation, and aeration, is often cause by fluid frictions, heat spots and other environments you can’t see inside the system like hard 90 degree fluid directional changes not to mention sloshing reservoirs. Bleeding the air from the system is a best practice of course but quality of fluid is just as important. That’s why anti foaming agent is added and my fluid has twice as much anti foaming agent than any other fluid on the market! Best practices, ideal environment, and quality fluid are all factors of a good health steering system! I give a 1 year standard warranty for my products, not the industry standard of 90 days and if you purchase my fluid (ensuring my products are in the best environment possible) I DOUBLE that warranty to 2 full years!

I don’t know the ins and outs , but we had an issue getting an AGR box through 4wp. We ended up deleting the order and up using Howe Performance steering. I had no idea it was local to me. Amazing service. I’ve done a couple systems at this point and can’t think of going anywhere else.

How come everybody does a half ass job --- can you mix / add to present fluid with your product (yea drain and flush) Is the products all synthetic ones ? lets see a demo of a test pump and rack after undergone several hours and other tests - what say you ?
