It worked!!! using a Samsung T7 Shield 2TB SSD, using an iPhone 14, and as shown the Apple camera adapter 3, and power source. Warning!- Plug the camera adapter in first & let iPhone automatically download the software for it first. My screen went black and wouldn't work when I plugged in and immediately connected power, even minutes after I unplugged everything. A phone restart fixed it thankfully (push vol up, vol down, hold power for 10+ sec when frozen/black screen). Thank you Average Tech Guy for this video, this is awesome!

For the SSDs that consume more power, you can either charge your phone to 100% and then try it again (when the phone won't be charging, more power will be delivered to the SSD) or get a powered USB hub and connect everything from there (like a network switch).

2022 Update - I just tried this with the iPhone 14 Pro and the Samsung T7 SSD 2TB (no fingerprint), and it works decently. Sometimes the device doesn't appear right away, and othertimes it doesnt appear at all, even if it's plugged into the wall outlet. When it does connect, I'm able to transfer content & watch videos okay. I also tried it with the Sandisk Extreme SSD 1TB (not the Pro edition) and again it only worked half the time.

I got a question, when you use these ext devices, can you watch the videos on your iPhone that are loaded into the ssd disks while plugged in or do you first have to download the videos off the ssd to your iPhone in order to view them?

Went to the link for the ESR portable power charger and it's no longer available (which do you suggest for my iPhone 13 Max Pro). I bought an adapter to transfer my files to my Samsung SSD. This works perfectly. But to my surprise I lost all my EXIF (meta) data once the files are on the SSD, even if I include ''All Photos Data'' in the Options tab before I tranfer it. The files that I transfer via Airdrop to my iMac do keep all EXIF data. Does anyone have a solution for this, or is it not possible at all?

I have 13 promax and went and bought Sampson T7 SSD drive no fingerprint one terabyte and bought the camera cable that was listed in the link and followed all the directions it does not show the drive on the phone all the lights come on no go … I did try with a iPhone 7 plus and it worked fine it showed right up so I’m wondering if it’s done in the settings or if I have to reset the phone from scratch or maybe Apple’s doing something in there updates not sure ….. update so the next day I plugged it all in again this time the phone was off plugged it in set it up turn the phone on I see the drive T7 everything works perfect no problems now

Sandisk extreme worked with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. For power I connected my lightning to usb cable in the USB port of my surge protector.

So the Sandisc and WD used to work and now doesn’t. So then if you have info, pictures videos saved on it and you want it hooked up to your iPhone or iPad you are now screwed. Have I got that right? So your stuff is lost.

Is it easy to move photos and videos to and from the Camera Roll? We have to take a lot of photos and videos for work. We’d like to use them to make things like reels for Instagram, but we often have to temporarily offload them to make space for new photos/videos.

If it's just photos and videos you are concerning about you can look into Qubii Pro Auto Backup Photos Flash Drive. It's foolproof and backs up only photos/videos for you every time you charge your phone. (you can then delete the photos/videos in your phone to save up space).

Great video. I’m a mobile filmmaker that likes to travel light. I like using the iPhone 14 pro and wanted an option where I can transfer large ProRes footage files off my phone directly to these drives. Did you happen to check out the speed for file transfer off the iPhone and onto the T7? Curious how long 400-500 GB of Files would take.

I just purchased a Samsung T7 SSD 500GB. I used the apple adapter on my iPhone 12 max and the SSD would not power up. I tried another iPhone and other genuine cables and still didn't work. I am thinking the T7 touch works but not T7 not touch. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Just got the T7 SSD 1TB for my iPhone 13 Pro Max and same thing, it doesn’t work. I have tried several things like using a 25W adapter, formatting the SSD with my Mac, changing the cables, using my IPad and nothing seems to work!! I have watched some videos using the same 1TB SSD T7 and it does work for them.

Hey @ the average tech guy, update, I ran across Techin It Out's video, if you connect the hard drive to a USB hub it seems to provide sufficient power to any hard drive. However I also just found out the write speed for Sandisk (with the orange strap) is up to 520 vs. Samsung T5/T7 at 1050MB/S, I decided to go with a Samsung still.

Thank you so much for your help! I now know mine unfortunately is in the “no go” category. I can copy files from my laptop to it which is good but having major issues just getting about 7k photos ( I know it’s a lot) transferred to my laptop. I have tried every way I know and it will start the transfer and then throw an error after transferring about 30 photos. I am at my wits end. If I could get them to my laptop I could utilize my Sandisk that way. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for going through each of these and letting me know I am not crazy. Lol

@@alnoorvirani1 powered usb hub is schematically similar to the camera adapter in this video. Except you can plug in more than one usb device and instead of the power supply being a mere lighting cable, it is usually something more… powerful. The hub part isn’t important, the extra power for is what will make it all work

@@tucco2097 I use Sabrent. But I hear people really like Anker brand everything. But pretty much any USB 3.0 hub that also comes with its own plug/power supply will do. Just make sure its not a power tower/charging station that only supplies power.

Why would you need the typeA to C? What happened to type C to C? Doesn’t the data transmission rate fall when you go from lightning to typeA to type C?

Nothing will happen. Lightning iPhones do not have enough output to power SSD drives.

I just got the Sandisk Extreme 2TB - formatted as ExFat and it will not show up when connected to the iPhone 13. It works just find when connected to a computer, so the cables and drive are OK. Using it with the iPhone was the key reason I purchased the drive, so it'll be returned.

Just get a samsung bro. I plugged the T7 (4tb) into my phone directly and it works perfectly. My phone charges it as I use it. No problems at all. With apple there is too much unnecessary confusion lol.

@@RealCP3 Hate to say it, but this right here. I’m one of those morons that keeps trying to make Apple products play nicely. Then I say screw it and just grab my Samsung Fold 4 (Galaxy Tab S6, Note 9, and yes, even my Galaxy S8 which is how freaking old now will spin up and read an old school hard drive, never mind a low drain modern ssd) and feel my blood pressure drop back to normal, virtually instantaneously.

ATENCIÓN! El Sandisk tiene un problema de fábrica. Al llegar a ciertas horas de uso deja de funcionar sin previo aviso y una vez pasa eso ya el disco no sirve. Compre uno de 2tb y me paso, tengo pc y mac y ninguna de las dos lo reconoce, cuando lo conecto no hace nada y el disco se calienta. NO LO COMPREN PARA QUE NO PIERDAN SUS TRABAJOS Y DINERO. Ahora compraré el Samsung T7.

If the iPhone says San disk requires too much power, we must find more power lol. I don’t have an issue with connecting phone to computer. This is a project I’m trying to work out to help my cousin free up a lot of iCloud space. A very large text thread with his ex that he keeps for the purpose of court.

I think because iPhone can't power up sufficient electricity to Hard Drive like iPad.
