You should check the algerian 14-15 league table. The last placed team could still mathematically win the league just a few 5 games before the season ended. It ended up being a 15 point gap between 1st and 16th (16 teams in the league)

It usually is like that down at the bottom for the most part, there have been many great escapes and there was an underrated one this season with Newcastle who won 1 out of their first 19 games and looked like they were doomed but with some investment in January (many thought it wasn't enough) and a new more tactically astute and modern manager they have been 3rd in the form table since the turn of the year behind Liverpool and Man City. Burnley have also had a great improvement after a managerial change and Everton could go down and could possibly be the biggest club to get relegated from the top division in the PL era (they used to be a part of the big 5 who pushed through the creation of the Premier league)

The Brazilian First Division is very underrated in terms of competitiveness. Although the quality of the football is not on par with Serie A, La Liga or the Prem, it definitely is much more interesting to watch and follow than Bundesliga or Ligue 1. And with many matches having better quality football too, specially compared to Ligue 1.

Not a top 5 league, but League One in England has been so competitive this season. 23/24 teams could’ve changed position on the final day. The top 7 all got 80+ points, play off sides had between 80-89 points, top two got 90 & 92 points. Closest it’s been for years and promotion and relegation went to the final game

Yeah I pretty much agree. 1. Premier league, 2. Serie A, 3. La Liga, 4. League 1, 5. Bundesliga. If it wasn't because of Bayern bundesliga could've been the most exciting league but they're just unreasonably above everyone else it doesn't even make sense anymore. Thankfully Milan and Inter picked up and didn't let the same thing happen to Serie A.

Honestly would have been interesting to expand it to the top 10 leagues. Although looking at the austrian Bundesliga as an austrian is depressing: - Only 2 league champions in the last decade (Austria Vienna 1x, Red Bull Salzburg 9x in a row) and 5 in the last two decades (GAK 1x, Sturm Graz 1x, Rapid Vienna 2x, Austria Vienna 3x, Red Bull Salzburg 13x) - Points gap in top 10 (after 22 games in regular season; it split up after that and points were halved): 33 points at an average of 3.6 points - Title contenders this year: 1

Funny though that to "round down" the winners of Serie A of the last 20 years to three, exacty the 99-2000 and 2000-01 seasons had to be left out of the count, because otherwise it would have been 5, with Lazio winning in 2000 and Roma winning in 2001. Just two years really made a big difference from that pov. Also one year before this one would have been enough to add Milan to the winners of the last decade. So we went from 3 winners in the last 10 years / 5 winners in the last 20 years to 2 in 10y/3 in 20y in just two seasons P.S: I would have added Eredivisie and Liga Nos to this, too

I agree completely with this list. My problem online is only that people often mistake competitiveness with quality. I agree that the Bundesliga isn't a competitive league but because of that prem fans don't rate Bundesliga players which is a logical flaw in my opinion. Just because Bayern are super consistent and one of the best teams in the world doesn't means that the quality of the rest is exponential worse than other leagues like Serie a or Prem. If Juventus and Psg would be run as good as Bayern it would be the same picture.

Napoli winning is a breath of fresh air , and the top teams are all great ) Bundesliga ( VERY HIGH TALENT - 4 teams fighting their way through to the UCL Round of 16 ) Primeira Liga ( i love these new Benfica and Porto teams, Sporting even looking bright ! ) Ligue 1 ( i think they're cooking somewhere overtime , but just hopefully it won't forever be a PSG definite )

For me, a great flaw in the competitiveness in all of those top european leagues is the high number of "limbo places", since most of them grants no prize qualification from 8th to 17th places! So, other than a little extra cash for finishing higher, a lot of teams have no incentive to play the last 3-4 matches of the competition. Here in Brazil, instead of 10 limbo places, we have only 4: from 13th to 16th - with the same 20 teams overall. Because of that every single team has something to fight for to the last match, with great drama in the last rounds. They should think about that in Europe, especially now with the advent of Conference League which could grant more qualification spots to the top leagues.

Adrian, this is a good video. Competitiveness is very subjective as it is a multivariate function as alluded to in the video. The EPL is the original super league in Concept. Especially, with the influx of foreign money since the early '00s. EPL teams typically have over 60% of their starting 11 are foreigners. They repeatedly farm players from the competition for Bayern, PSG etc, thus leaving those teams in a perpetual rebuilding cycle.

With the criteria that you described, I feel that Ligue 1 would be bottom B tier, everything was in favour for them, the league is just biased against based on PSG winning 8/10 but it wasn't anything like Serie A or Bunderliga (9 in a row and 10 in a row) PSG's domination has been 4 in a row and 3 in a row. The entire league table is a lot closer and more competitive as shown in you analysis, so personally it's up to the bottom of B tier for me. (Also the "winning the league by a lot of points" argument, City won by 12 points last year in the prem, Liverpool by 18 points the year before, City by 19 points the year of 100 points, so it happens in other leagues too)
@AbhishekNag666
@AbhishekNag666 Жыл бұрын
I would make a rule for all leagues to make them competitive. A team that wins more than 2 consecutive years will have to start with a handicap next season. It will be calculated like this: If club A wins the league in 2022, and then in 2023 that club will start season 2024 with minus -3 points instead of 0. If they win 2024 too they will start 2025 season with -6 and so on.

Yes it would be considered S tier. Their NBA format on how salary caps work on each teams makes the league extremely competitive. In terms of format, MLS has always had the best but the talent was always something they're set back on. I wish all European leagues followed their system. It would simply balance out all the clubs and make it more enjoyable to watch and not see a stacked PSG team with bigger budgets which is completely unfair

Most "competitive" is overrated imo. Don't get me wrong, I like competitive leagues because the games matter more and the title races are more exciting but it has no factor on how good the level of the league actually is. Just take a look at Serie A for proof. It's the most competitive out of the 5 big leagues. Yet it's not the strongest league out of the 5. Imo it's currently 4th or maybe even 5th. Italian teams have been a disgrace in European competitions for over a decade. Forget winning the CL they can't even win the Europa League. AC Milan will probably win Serie A this year and they were beaten by Liverpool's reserves. The best team they've had over the last decade were those Juventus sides which made the CL finals twice. And that happened when it was one of the LEAST competitive leagues when Juventus won 9 straight. Lastly, having a more competitive league doesn't = being better suited for winning the CL. This is the excuse used for PSG or Bayern slipping up. But AGAIN look at Serie A. Super competitive, yet their teams have been failing miserably in Europe. When it comes to the CL there is no science to it or perfect formula. The strongest squads and collections of talent typically win. Bayern have been dominating Germany for 10 years straight and still won the CL twice. It's all about who has the talent, who has the luck go their way and who shows up on the given day in a knockout competition. Not being tested enough because you play in a weaker league CAN be a factor, but it doesn't have to be. Similarly a competitive and grueling league season CAN be a detriment in Europe because managers rest their stars less and might prioritize league fixtures, but again, it doesn't have to be. I would rather watch lower quality of football played if it's more competitive and any team can beat anybody..for a football fan that wants to go into a game NOT knowing who will win..Serie A is where it is

Italian teams have been a disgrace? Tell that to Atalanta, Fiorentina, Roma and Napoli who all have made runs into the CL knock out rounds over the last decade, taking big names down along the way. In Atalanta’s case they were so close to knocking out PSG, which leads to the next reason why you’re wrong: luck. Italian teams have been unlucky. Juve made it to 2 finals and faced the best Barca and the best Real sides in recent history. Roma got knocked out in the semi finals by the best Liverpool side in years. Inter lost the Europa League final because of Lukaku’s big head blocking a goal for his own team. Serie A sides punch well above their weight considering how woeful their finances are, yet on the pitch they still manage. If your only metric of success is counting recent European titles, then every club outside of Madrid, Barca, Bayern, and the big 4 in England are also a “disgrace”.
@thehollowedtree9586
@thehollowedtree9586 Жыл бұрын
@@JP-vj7fp Maybe "disgrace" is a bit too harsh, but you get the point. Italian clubs have fallen behind. Considering Serie A used to be the best league during the 80s, 90s and most of the 2000s as well. A few cherry picked examples of "making a run" doesn't change the fact that they went from having the very best teams in world football to being also rans and underdogs. Serie A is my favorite league, believe me I'd love to see Italian clubs winning the Champions League or Europa League, but there's no sense deluding yourself. And yes finances are the primary reason for the regression. You can see that by the type of players playing in Italy today vs in the past. Good players, with some gems sprinkled in like Milinkovic-Savic, Barella, Vlahovic, Zielinski, Bastoni, Tonelli, Koulibaly, Immobile, etc. But they can no longer afford the creme of the crop mega stars. 20 years ago Mbappe, Halaand, Lewandowski, Modric, Van Dijk, De Bruyne and others would have been playing is Serie A.

I’d have to say la liga, this title race of Liverpool and man city you can’t figure out where either would drop even a single point. On the other hand Real Madrid are on their way to champions league finals proving they deserve there lead in the league they amassed. Yet every single league game is suspenseful.

I think right now....Serie A is the most competitive. It's not the BEST league in terms of quality and Finances..but you had 3 teams legitimately going for the title this year...last year it was a 2 way battle until the last few weeks...the year before that was Juve's last of 9 in a row...you have the top 4 being Fluid...with Napoli, Roma, Atalanta getting in or out. Right now..it's a open as it gets...next year Juve, Inter, Milan, Napoli and possibly even Roma will have legitimate title aspirations..there's no other league in Europe that has at least 4 real Title contenders right now. The EPL is dominated by Liverpool and Man City......It has the best finaces..meaning that Everton has a bigger Budget than say AC Milan..but $$$$ does not make it competitive...it's a closed duopoly of 2 teams for the title and just 2-3 of the remaining 18 can consistently be in the top 4 Bundesliga and Ligue 1 are 1 team leagues...so is the Eredivisie to certain extent...The Portuguese league is more open now with Benfica and Porto slightly falling off and Sporting being decent..but Serie A is where you find REAL competitiveness
