Because of its harmonic resonance is tonaly in relation to the diminished 7ths in a common cycle or 4 bar section, as it fits within the circle of 5ths of course.

I bought me about 5 years ago a KALA Solid (just the TOP is the Solid part) Spruce Mahogany Long Neck Soprano (Model: KA-SSLNG). This is excellent because it has the classic Soprano sound but a concert long neck that allows you to play more notes. Amazing little Uke!

What gives the uke its charistic sound is the reentrant G string, which is higher than the C and E strings. Some people prefer to use a "low G" string so that it plays more guitar like, so you can buy sets of either.

I love my baritone uke’s! I use two now. Larger scale makes is so easy for full fingered folks. One is set up with standard DGBE tuning but the other is set up with Aquila 23U Strings in high GCEA tuning. Actually I’ve found that if you are using the GCEA strings, you could tune down to DGBE and it still sounds pretty good although it’s so convenient to have the two ready to go. The baritone with the GCEA strings sounds pretty amazing, especially if it’s a good mahogany or koa ukulele.

Actually owned one of those gretschs. Really great ukes. Although I wounldnt go for the long neck version. The tiny bridge pulls and lifts because of the string tension. Owned one and got rid of it because of that. The regular version should be just fine.

Since he didn't say it in the video, the U-Bass by Kala is tuned like an electric bass (E-A-D-G), has rubber-like strings, and has electronics. Also you can get it in different woods, with 5 strings, or fretless.

Yew Kah lay lee. When it comes to traditionally acoustic instruments like ukulele or sitar for example I've often found that "electrifying" them takes away much of their unique sound and that one is probably better off trying to make their guitar sound like those instruments than buying an electric version of them. There are obviously ways to amplify/mic acoustic instruments, I am specifically talking about instruments like the so called electric sitars/ukuleles.

Great video! I'm switching to uke from classical guitar bc I have hypermobile finger joints and I find it hard to press down the stings on a guitar but uke seems easier to press down the strings, at least the soprano I tried. I am actually wanting a Tenor, would you say the amount of pressure required to press down the stings on a tenor is more similar to a soprano uke or a classical guitar? Thanks!

Scale length is different than over all length. A soprano is typically 21 inches long all together while the scale length is the length the strings are able to vibrate and be played, nut to saddle.

I would give the world to learn how to play my ukulele like I sit down and play the piano - or similar to how people would play a classical guitar. Soooo many youtube channels on here that are great for chording and singing along, but I'd sure love to learn a finger picking style to simply sit down and enjoy just playing pretty songs on my ukulele. Do you offer that? (I'm looking for actual videos that teach how to play popular songs with finger picking...)

My father-in-law wanted a ukulele so I did some research and purchased a concert size. He didn't like it so I returned it and he picked out a traveling 17 inch ukulele but decided it was too small. Since he thought it was too small, I decided to keep it for our new grandson.... when he gets older. Lol But I might like to practice it a little bit. I was wondering what better strings you would put on it and which size- soprano? I know that this is an old video but if anyone sees this please let me know. ❤ PS for some reason my father-in-law purchased another concert ukulele. I would have thought he would have tried a soprano. 🤷‍♀️

"Is it a bass ukulele" The Kala U-Bass is actually a contrabass ukulele. RN the only company that sells a "true" bass ukulele is Luna, and I can only assume it's because nobody wants them. I mean I do but I'm nobody. Contrabass tuning is the same as a bass guitar, while bass tuning is the same raised by an octave. That makes it the same as the bottom four strings of a guitar, which you may also know from the CBG world as "arkansas tuning". If you want a bass uke but you don't wanna buy from Luna, you can buy a contrabass from kala and restring it with guitar strings, though if you want that change to be permanent you'll want a professional luthier to replace the nut so that you have an appropriate action.

@@soundknight not really. I'm not a fan of ukuleles by any stretch, but being in Maui it seemed appropriate to give one a try, and when I saw the 8-string, and heard how it sounded more like a mandolin than the usual thin ukulele sound, with the mellow tone from the nylon strings, I was impressed.
