REUPLOADED to remove the inaccurate mention of the MSU-1 chip being involved in the SNES version's crashes. I'm not positive which source mentioned it having to do with the game's rare crashes, but while we're mentioning the chip, it's a custom chip that can enable the use of mods for various SNES games. For Chrono Trigger, you could utilize the MSU-1 chip for CD quality music and even the anime FMV cutscenes on original hardware. Thank you to everybody's prior comments!

I adore the DS version. I love the retranslation, I like the extra content for what it does filling in certain gaps in the story like HOW that tiny little town of Porre managed to overthrow the kingdom of Guardia, and I don't even mind the subtle changes to the OST. What brings me out of the experience though are the sound effects. There are far too many instances where various sound effects are just way off from their original. I would still rank the DS version as the best version of the game, but that's one difference worth noting. Oh, and I believe there's one more issue with the PS1 version. A lot of sprite variety disappeared in that version of the game, possibly to help handle RAM limitations, but what it means is instead of the guards in Guardia's prison often having unique color palettes, they all share the same palette.

There's some inaccurate information in this video, and it's missing a lot that could be said about different versions, some of which I've compiled here: - There are lots of grammar and spelling errors in the DS translation of CT - I've listed a bunch before when discussing this topic. The DS translation in general is a big step-down from the SNES translation, losing lots of character and heart. The DS translation sounds very dry and flatlined and compared to the SNES version, and reads like there are no individual personalities and that it's all one sterile personality delivering all the lines. - Combat speed is adjustable in the SNES version (probably in the DS version, too), in the game menu. You don't mention this when initially saying the DS version has a faster battle speed. - There are no new details to sprites and backgrounds in the DS version, and colours, lighting, and shading weren't added in the DS version. The DS version simply has a grotesque yellow filter placed over everything (which I've been told was done due to something about the DS' screen, I forget what), and the player sprites on the overworld map are different (not better, though). None of the individual details you mentioned reflect things that are actually done in the DS version. The yellow colour filter bias hasn't been removed in any of the post-DS versions of the game, and it looks entirely awful. - The mini-map in the NDS version isn't convenient, as CT's environments are pretty simple and aren't confusing. It's just a cheat-sheet that, IMO, shouldn't be there. - The music in the NDS version is lower fidelity, and it also intermittently fades-out and starts over again, which the SNES version doesn't do. - The Steam version of CT has bugs, slowdowns, and choppiness. It also has crashes, and for some people it won't even launch. - There can be an issue in the Steam version with a line of pixels appearing above the text popup box, extending across the entire screen. - The Steam version now inexplicably has added exclamation-mark bubbles over NPC heads whenever the player next to them. It looks terrible and serves no purpose, since every NPC you can stand next to can be engaged with. - The mini games were made easier in the mobile version, to cater to touch controls. I think the Steam version hasn't reset them to their original difficulty, and so are too easy when playing with a keyboard or gamepad. - There is no decent visual filter in the Steam version. The smooth filter is ugly and mis-aligns textures, while the no-filter, pixelated version doesn't look like the original game and is also not very good looking. - The Steam version's font is eye-bleedingly bad, and barely legible on a large screen. It's the font that was used in the DS version, which it was changed to after people complained about the mobile version font that was used. But the DS version's font was specifically used in the DS version because of the DS version's small screen. It's a hideous font on larger screens. The original SNES font is far more nice-looking and readable. - The Steam version's battle UI is atrocious. - The Steam version doesn't let characters be named using a gamepad, so someone playing with a gamepad needs to put down their gamepad and go to a keyboard whenever they get a new party member. - The one good thing the Steam version does is add additional background tiles in some locations, to fill-out the edges of the environment, to fill a 16:9 widescreen resolution. Other than that, the Steam version of CT is a complete disaster, even after the latest patch.

Truthfully you can't go wrong with either the SNES version or the DS version. While the SNES version is my personal go to for the overall feel, the DS version having certain features the PS1 did including the anime cutscenes is a nice plus. The sound on that version also still sounds quite nice on the original hardware. The load times in the PS1 version at least in my opinion slow the game to a crawl and the Steam version (or Android version) just has inconsistencies that I can't personally get behind, though if either of the latter two versions are your only way to play, then they can at least be serviceable.

Can't tell you how excited I was back when this was released on the DS. Out of all the physical games I own, that's definetly the one I treasure the most, and even if the extra content is a bit of a mixed bag, feels like the best version of this masterpiece. Though I wish I had more then 3 save slots though, as I've kept my original save file from when I bought it and constantly have to delete the other 2 when doing a new run (depending on my mood I either replay the game fresh or do a NG+ for a different ending)

I hate the fact that the mobile version didn't use to have that horrible filter before the release of the Steam version. That’s really cool that they actually improved the PC version by adding new details to the sides of the screen to fit 16:9, it’s a real shame no version of this is perfect though. Personally I played the original SNES copy on a real console a little while ago, but the DS version looks like it would be a good way to replay it next time I do it. PC is probably the third best option as I love the idea of new background detail and it’s got most of the bonus content.

I find it odd, but nice, that the PC version of this game got no updates for about three and a half years before randomly getting further updates. Still, they need to fix the music restarting bug and they should add the missing FMVs. The extra screen real-estate on PC looks really nice though. The DS version seems to be the best version in a lot of ways, but the PC version is not far behind, and it is better in some ways.

@ValkyrieTiara
@ValkyrieTiara 2 жыл бұрын
@@TonyTonyRedgrave I disagree. I think the pixel remasters tend to be among the best official versions aside from the originals, and in many cases you could make an argument for PR being superior. The only things I care about for ports and remasters of these games are accuracy to the original and error correction, and maybe the occasional unobtrusive QoL enhancement or bonus feature (run button and buying item stacks in FF1, bestiary, art gallery, etc). Anything that significantly changes the aesthetic, gameplay, or story compared to the originals is a non-starter. An exception is made for the 8 bit games' graphics, considering very few ports/remakes use the og graphics for those games. The pixel remasters are almost exactly that. They didn't try to overhaul the graphics (though I wish they hadn't homogenized the menus), the gameplay and mechanics are mostly untouched save for bug fixes, and they didn't try to reinvent the wheel with the retranslations. The only real problems I have with them are a few technical issues, the lack of an original OST option (though the new versions are, on the whole, possibly the best OST remakes I've ever heard), and a hard mode or something to make up for the huge drop in difficulty in a lot of games due to bug fixes and rebalancing, but that last one is hardly unique to the PRs. Those are all relatively minor quibbles, though. Other than that theyre great.

The Steam version works fairly well on the Steam Deck, though there may be a bug where the game reverts back to the home screen when trying to cloud save and play animated cutscenes at the same time. Besides that, since it’s a portable version with a wider aspect ratio, it’s pretty great.

Hey man, can you maybe do a video about the first 6 final fantasy games and compare them? I never played any of them, only 7 remake and 15. And i would like to try out the older games. I read that they all have differences in good story, good Battlesystem, different job systems and so on. So you would make a comparison on which Game is focused on what. I dont know if you understand what i mean 🙈😅

Chrono Trigger ranks among one of the best video game RPG's I ever played, along with the Legend of Zelda games, Final Fantasy Games, Super Mario RPG. One game I heard which was really good which I never got a chance to play is called Dragon Quest. Chrono Cross is an unofficial direct sequel to Chrono Trigger or like a spinoff sequel. It is a shame Chrono Break was cancelled, it could have been the official Chrono Trigger 2 some fans have been waiting for since 1995. Chrono Trigger reputation and masterpiece is a gem in video game history and highly unappreciated franchise which Squaresoft now Square or whatever their new name for their studio happens to be. It is a genius work from very highly talented video game designers and artists which made Chrono Trigger one of the best video games I ever played. The music was phenomenal, the story was engaging, the graphics and depth of the game with the time travel really felt something special. It is almost like reading a book or great novel when playing this game or the same way with the Legend of Zelda games or Final Fantasy games. You really get invested in the characters and timeline and it is so well done. I really hope as a fan they make an official Chrono Trigger 2 because this game is legendary.

Picked up the PS1 version digitally on PS3 and Vita. I can confirm that the fast disc read option on vita does make the load times a little better, though it seems to be by less than the PS2 fast read (It could be that they are the same but I have no way to test as I don't own a physical version of Chrono Trigger PS1 to test on PS2. If they are different the difference is barely noticeable). Based on my experience with other PS1 games on PSP, it should be about the same as Vita though I haven't tested it myself.

Chrono Trigger is almost impossible to find on DS now. I’ve got the 2DSXL, which plays every 3DS and DS game I think, but there are “copies” floating around saying they only work with original DS, leading me to believe they’re ROMs or duplications. I have also seen some Japanese import versions of the game that seem more available to purchase compared to the US version. Any idea if that’s a viable option? Would the text auto-translate to English if I used the Japanese import (since my 2DSXL is USA registered)? Just thought I’d ask around, since internet searches have been confusing, and most internet posts are years old by now.

While I applaud Satoru Iwata and Reggie for bringing success to the Wii and DS, region locking the Wii, DSi, 3DS, and Wii U were the worst decision ever made for gaming and Nintendo wonder why their stocks are falling once the 3DS and Wii U launch.
