In this video, Beth will compare wood types of furniture. Our 6 most popular furniture wood types are Oak, Quarter Sawn White Oak, Cherry, Brown Maple, Walnut, and Pine. Oak wood furniture is a durable hardwood used in traditional style furniture as well as many other styles. Quarter Sawn White Oak furniture offers added benefits like the reduced likelihood of cupping and warping. Cherry wood furniture is unique in that it darkens over time. Brown Maple wood furniture is a great choice for contemporary and modern hardwood furniture. Walnut wood furniture features a beautiful, dark tone, even without stain. Finally, Pine wood furniture offers rustic, farmhouse looks at a much cheaper price for a softer wood.

Thanks for the Video! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Rozardner Easy Food Reality (search on google)? It is a great exclusive product for learning the trick to build great sheds and master woodworking minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my close friend Aubrey at very last got cool results with it.

ikr? That's oak wood with a gray stain. Very contemporary. Very popular right now. Looks like the solid wood was also distressed by the wood shop before staining.

What kind can be good for a closet or a dressing room?

It's hard to know what to recommend without knowing more about how you'll use it, but we'll start with this: ensure that it's solid wood. Any solid wood will hold up better than a laminate finish over particle board or manufactured woods.

I think My dresser is Oak but the inside of the drawers are rough like raw wood... why?

Some woodworkers will use a lighter-weight (and lighter-colored) wood type like birch for the drawer boxes instead of matching the wood type used for the exterior. However, you can expect the Amish woodworkers we work with will generally sand and finish the drawers. The last thing we'd want is for rough wood to snag your clothing in the drawer box!

What about beech? Is it durable? Is it best over oak?

Great question! As I understand it, beech is dense and heavy, harder than oak, and makes for a great option for furniture in terms of durability. However, some say beech is a less attractive wood grain for furniture (www.hunker.com/12003158/oak-vs-beech). Our woodworkers in the American midwest don't use beech wood for furniture.

At DutchCrafters, we don't sell Teak Furniture. Our Amish woodworkers use North American lumber and don't import wood from Asia, where Teak trees are generally grown. It sounds like Teak makes for great outdoor furniture, though, due to some oils in the wood that protect it from moisture and decay. It can be a more expensive wood type because the trees grow slowly.

How is deodar trees and Dalbargia sisso /INDIANA ROSEWOOD for furniture ?

Good question! Our Amish woodworkers don't work with either one, but I'm not sure if that's because it isn't suited for furniture or it simply isn't plentiful enough in the midwest United States.

Cedrus deodara, and its sisters Atlas cedar and Libanon cedar are fairly close to Oregon pine and Scots pine in properties and colouring. So use them as such if you want. And use them if you have them!

Hi! Among these options, oak and brown maple are probably the best blend of hardwood durability and affordability for beds, but it all depends on your personal preference regarding grain pattern.

Good question. I don't think there's a standard for college desks, but Oak might be best. It is the least expensive hardwood option we know of (for the college budget) and is quite hard and resistant to damage (for the wear and tear of college life).
