Whipple St always amazed me back in 2006 when I first saw this crossing. Ofcourse back then, all the gate lights were WRRS lantern lights. Also the extra lights and the mini bell hidden behind the extra lights also provided an extra touch of awsomeness. Here we have just MEC 376, a GP40 High Nose cruising northbound to who knows where with a RS5T blowing the way. I caught the engine again at the next crossing north of here.

Science Guy Actually, those are GRS/WRRS model 10 gate mechanisms. WRRS mini bells are also a current common sight in Maine. Youll find them a lot in the videos in my Maine Series 1, 2, and 3 videos.

Looking at the history of the railroads in Maine, the only information I can find out about this branch was origonally Maine Central back in the 1860's and has basically been the same to this day as the line is the Maine Central Springfield Terminal Railway that was once Guilford and Pan Am Railways, which is now owned by CSX Transportation.

Thanks. When I first found the crossing I wanted to get it in action, but never had the chance in 2007, but had better luck (And a better car in 2014). And yes RS5T's are some of the best horns ever made, and the Mini-bell is my favorite mechanical bell.

@@Crossingman18 what about the US&S teardrop bell?
@Crossingman18
@Crossingman18 5 жыл бұрын
@@UsTrainsAndSirens The teardrop while it is impressive if you actually FIND one, to me it sounds just like a WRRS mechanical bell with a E Flat tone gong, similar to what use to be on the cantilever crossing at the former Peacock Hill Rd #1 crossing for St Lawrence before the crossing was removed and relocated. But to me, the WRRS mini bell stands out to me as my favorite bell, is because thats usually what I heard while living in Maine, along with the WCH mechanical bell, and a safetran bell if you got lucky on the St Lawrence & Atlantic line.

there's a railroad crossing I believe freebrickproductions had got it is located in Portland Tennessee on the old l&n.. it's used everyday by the CSX on the bowling Green sub. but it's about a little bit faster than that and it either sounds to some people like a burglar alarm going off for a school bell ringing..

strange because I got the crossing back in July and it was working perfectly. Now if this video was taken in the winter, it would make Sense as cast iron doesn't do well at all in cold climate conditions and mini's tend to freeze solid in the Maine winter.

Crossingman18 Yeah that is very strange, that's my video you are referring to pluey200. I am glad you came back as recent as you did Crossingman, because I had no idea they fixed the bell. I was here in the summer of 2012, and it rung maybe 3 times then died out, then I was here again in late October (no snow on the ground) of 2013 and it did the same as it did in 2012. But since they just repaved the crossing sometime this year, maybe they tuned up the bell? Either way, I am thrilled to hear it operating! Sorry for the confusion pluey200, I had no idea! And excellent video! I love the faded rims.

dcarpine28 Yep. Whipple is as good as ever, what makes me happy is they actually fixed the bell, instead of scrapping it and replacing it with something else, like you normally would see on a class 1. Whipple St is running strong, and you should be able to hear it again, next time you drop by Lewiston. The backgrounds haven't changed at all. I took pictures here back in 2006 and although they are even more faded out than back then, glad to see they haven't changed at all. Gives those discs some class.
