Whiskeytown was a blazing train on a one way track heading towards a self induced, unmovable collision. But damn, if they didn't create one of the best albums of all time, Strangers Almanac.

I remember buying Gold after hearing Ryan sing one of the songs from it....I then needed more of his music so found the Whiskeytown albums. Brilliant musicians, they play with such great timing and ability. Love the moments of both male/female vocal, even during his solo career...always sounds so good.

Whiskeytown was one incredible group. I don't know how in God's name I did not know of their existence at the time they were together creating this incredible music. Thank God that at Amazon their music is still available. I am going to buy their entire discography of what is still available. So glad that they appeared on the ACL stage.

Not necessary. "Strangers Almanac" is top 3 of all albums in the 1990's. But the rest of their recordings isn't.
@mattd.4553 Жыл бұрын
@@mattiasneander4769 @michaelgarrity6090 I wouldn't go so far as to say "not necessary." The extended version of Faithless Street is well worth the investment, as is Pneumonia.

@@MLCDelux Caitlin showed up for a special appearance back when the Cards were on tour and stopped in North Carolina. Either 2005 or 2006 since Catherine Popper was still in the band. Pretty sure it was Raleigh. There was an impromptu Whiskeytown reunion later that night at a small bar down the street.

This is a great show, great setlist! I would take any random sampling of Stranger's Almanac, but Pneumonia is nearly as good. I just love that story Caitlin would tell, that she stuck with Ryan through so many years and lineups just to see what craziness would happen next. The highs were that special.

I like talking with Ed when Mike Watt plays Pittsburgh, which is where Ed has lived for years now. Ed always shows up to see Mike. I have got Ed to sign some stuff 2 out of 3 times so far. Ed`s band Food opened for Mike when he did the Hyphenated Man Tour and then came out and played B.O.C.`s The Red & The Black with Mike. I always tell him that we might not still be seeing Mike if it were not for himself driving his family`s station wagon to California "fROMOHIO" to spark Mike into playing again after D. Boon`s death......leading to the formation of fIREHOSE. This is the first time I ever saw footage of him with Ryan. Far Out (Old Dudes) ! Mike had to cancel this last time because of the Covid-19 bullshit........bummer.

That Graham Parsons project is what split the band up, I noticed the guy that produced his first album was on the stage with him that night. Thus they saw a possible Gold Mine and didn't think the rest of the band deserved a cut, tats basically what it was. They were like, we can make more off Ryanif he's a single star, thus he doesn't mind us getting a bigger cut. Follow the money. They never cashed in tat much because he's so difficult, him going to his own label is the only thing that made him cash in tbh. He has a loyal following, thus he can make bank.
