well I don't feel sorry for the woman at all. These are supposed to be established organizations who grade papers and they should be able to sort themselves out. And this isn't just a grade. I wouldn't care if instead of an A* I got a A in just a regular end of year test but this is GCSES for gods sake. Students futures depend on this. After my whole academic career, being hella sleep deprived, being overly stressed and regularly having breakdowns over the pressure, I'm sorry I'm I don't feel bad for them, but I think I deserve a correct grade after 16 years of school. They get paid £20 an hour for this stuff. You get an answer key and you're ticking and crossing. If this person is the reason I'm working minimum wage I have zero sympathy. You already have enough anxiety of getting your scores back; the doubt of incorrect marking doubles that. So they should get themselves sorted because they have people's futures in their hands

Anthony Kernich you can appeal, but with AQA it costs around £30 for a GCSE paper, and similar for edexcel and OCR GCSE papers. But we have to think, one science gcse (so core science, or biology, chemistry or physics) has 3 papers. To get those marked would cost £90. And that's one subject! The problem is is that you can request to have your actual paper sent back to you in PDF form, but with a lot of people by the time they get the paper back, then remarking deadline has just been bypassed.

They have the money for it. The school has to pay £50-ish to enter a student into the a paper. (Or perhaps the exam). They are also paid for the services etc. The markers are paid a minuscule amount. The money is given to the big people at the top and wasting money on conferences in which only minor changes are decided (e.g. changes to layouts on these years' papers, etc.)

MrLethalShots So I think it's a PDF with all the examiner's notes on it. I recall my friend asking for one of his A-level maths papers back. I think it's only around £20 or so, but then it costs more to get it remarked... I'm not sure though, it's been a while since I was in school. As far as I know though, if there's a mistake in the marking you get a refund for the remark fee, but you don't get your money back if you've requested to have your actual paper back.
