Here's a rather large compilation of steam whistles that I've captured in action on the two former D&RGW tourist railroads, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. These were filmed on numerous different occasions.
Locomotives and whistles featured:

Cumbres & Toltec #168 - D&RGW Hooter
Denver & Rio Grande Western #315 (D&RG #425) - Northern Pacific 5 Chime
Eureka & Palisade #4 "Eureka" - Baldwin Hooter
Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Co. #1 "Glenbrook" - Baldwin Hooter

@@mikeyburns4200 It says right there in the meme. It is the Sierra Railway #3 whistle, but the D&S #481 has the same variant.

#486 is undoubtedly my personal favorite, that D&RGW 5 is amoungst the most enchanted sounding one. The crew in most of the clips in which it was featured never really pulled the chord down hard. With the fulcrum arm wide open the 486s 5 Chime is awestriking. But the #488, #481, #480, #478, #487 are also among my favorites.

4:16 is my favorite all time sound of a chime, there is no other chime in this world that sounds more beautiful at that distance. I love that sound.

487 has always been my favorite. When i was really little, i saw a bunch of rail fanning videos, and 487 showed up, and i from that day forward she'd always been my favorite something about her snow plow really stuck out to me

486’s Rio Grande 5 chime whistle is actually just better than the rest! The best whistle in existence in my opinion! 481’s (478’s from what I’ve heard, not sure whether it’s true or not) D&RGW 5 chime is my second fav, but nearly tied with 486’s. 473’s D&RGW 3 chime in third! Anyway, absolutely fantastic video! Thank you so much for filming these whistles on the most beautiful locomotives on the face of the earth! Absolutely made my day!

The best one, in my opinion, is the #476 with a Lunkenheimer 3 Chime, and I have one...Love my whistle, and in the right hands you can make it "talk and sing" to you. Hauntingly beautiful sound. Dr. George Whitehead

487 has a D&RGW 5 chime but it’s insanely unique in that it has a hooter bowl, which is why it’s way higher pitched than normal D&RGW 5 chimes

487 is my favorite whistle, but they are all so good Edit almost a year later: I think 484 is at a tie for my favorite now, but I still agree with myself that they are all so good.

I find it interesting how no one has noticed the whistle recording at 6:16 used to be in the railroads online menu start up sequence. Amazing video by the way! Music to my ears!

@@ArkansasLocomotiveWorks It did at one point. It has since been replaced though by a new soundtrack. Was there anyone standing by you in that clip? If so it could be they’re audio. If not, then whoever used it raised the pitch a little bit, but still the same sound. I would contact Mark Huber and ask him about this if this is any concern.

It is. It has a weirdly placed bowl if I recall correctly. I might be wrong.

I'm sorry if this is spam, but I gotta mention how beautiful and loud this 5 chime or 3 chime ( I can't tell ) is, 9:43 and at 9:44 doesn't it kinda give a southern railway 3 chime sound. It's probably only me.

It’s because the whistle is so loud, it distorts the audio in the recording.
