Loved this video. Brings me back to fall plowing with Dad's 1980 2-105 and the IH 770 trailer plow. It was a 5x16. Spent a lot of hours running that in my HS days. I am surprised you got good such traction. I remember one fall about '83?? we had 2 tractors, chains, and a old tire between to get enough traction to keep moving. Dad got a proper tow rope later to get rid of that tire setup. Another fall, it was so much ice/mud under the snow with a frozen layer over the ground that it was impossible. Maybe you don't have that thin frost layer yet. I grew up in SE Kandiyohi Cty. Watching some of your other videos, we had a lot of similar equipment. That 2-105 replaced a M670, that replaced a UB diesel. Dad milked till '83 but kept feeder cattle till the end in '97. Also, had hogs till '94. I know the farmer who rents the family land got all his crop off and tillage done 2 weekends ago (Oct 11) so avoided farming in the snow. Not sure about my cousin who farms in the same area but he is always sort of late with everything so maybe not, ha.

The white 2-110 was an upgrade to a 2-105 that was here. The tire trick is a classic still, used around here for pull outs. No frost yet, it was literally in the 60s & 70s less than 2 weeks ago. Milking was done here in 03. Thanks for commenting.

Just stumbled on this video, something I rarely see in WC Indiana. We haven't had a moldboard plow on our ground since the early 80's, and only a local seed research farm still uses a moldboard plow. I have the 2-135 I bought in 85, kept it and sold everything else when I retired from farming. It's been a great tractor, never have had a head off or the drive train opened up so far in about 5500 hours. Hydraulics seem to be getting weaker over time, and it has a number of small oil leaks that are very difficult to find and fix. A paint job and cab kit would be nice, may happen sometime in the future. Keep the old ones running!

We still run White’s and Oliver’s, we are a little behind the times 😁. Old equipment, old practices.

Real nice setup there! Dirt looks real good! Surprised the traction was so good with that snow on top. Thanks for the video!

Thanks. It froze pretty good the few days leading up, so it wasn’t greasy. Gotta plow before the sun comes and it gets warm out.

Oh Yeah...some Nature's Own natural nitrogen in the mix, nice looking ground man. BigRich says, turning dirt never hurt anything. Old Macdonalds son was pissed one day, see..he was wanting to ride his new bike..and ol Macdonald yells.. 'aint nobody ridding shit but a tractor til' the tilage gets done' ...well young junior see's a rooster riding a chicken..runs over and kicks the rooster and yells..'aint nobody ridding shit till the tilage gets done'

Nice heavy soil, with minimal rocks. 👍 thanks Doug.

The weather sure changed fast. You must not have many rocks there? Thanks for sharing.
@crazydave44553 жыл бұрын
There are a few rocks, nothing like certain parts of the state. If you farm on one those rock belts or rocky areas, you would probably say we have none 😂

Hi there, I'm your first time subscriber, that's quite an interesting video, the snow came earlier than expected, at least you still were able to plow your field, how many acres you have? Sometimes you can plow without the duals depending on the ground, I live on a farm in Minnesota, I rent my land, I've had these renters for years, I'm also subscribed to other channels like Wtfarmgirl and Oliver66farmboy & Cole the Cornstar , Trinity Dairy, just to name a few, I like the old farm equipments, don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with the new equipments either, I'm a JD guy, I don't have anything against you for having the while implements, I have a collection of farm toys of just about every kind, I have several Oliver equipment in the collection, I've seen some JD cornhead on different combines like Gleaner and Case and NH, if you have a white combine, you'd have to have a adapter kit to put on, that's kind of a pain 😎👍🚜

Thanks for coming over Matt, we are in MN too. The snow definitely came early. I also enjoy the old equipment and am familiar with and watch a lot of those farm channels (especially the MN ones 😉) I’ll collect any color of old iron, but the farm mainly used Oliver and White equipment.

Yep, a little snow plowing. This time last year, we were less than a week into taking corn out and it was wet!

Was wondering how do you gauge your return so that your plow down and plow up will match or does it matter ? I hope I am asking this right . When you finish going down at the end of a pass . How far do you know to go before you turn back into the field to start your next path ?
@crazydave445511 ай бұрын
Think your asking how or where we split the field ? Depends on the farmer’s preference. I’ve saw some guys do a lot of end row driving so they have less furrows. Dad splits it to limit the driving on the end rows and usually rotates how it’s split year to year. One year it’s plowed apart and the next together so you don’t end up with a big furrow.
@donniebargo9643 ай бұрын
I noticed you guys don't backland plow much, where I'm from most fields I lease have a low place in the center where they plowed in a circle for years and I have to backland them towards the center for 3 to 4 years before they are level again,
@crazydave44553 ай бұрын
Used to rotate, if it was plowed apart the previous year, it was plowed together the next. If that’s what you mean?

It was actually a really dry fall, up until this last week. (A little rain and 8 inches of snow) No mud spots to speak of, we have extremely heavy soil out here. I left the last clip in to show it’s not always easy going.
@Tx_7213 жыл бұрын
Do many people still farm with this equipment and deep tillage method?
@crazydave44553 жыл бұрын
No. Moldboard plowing is considered an outdated soil management technique by many. Most common today is no till, strip till, chisel plowing or the use of vertical tillage tools. In ground this heavy some sort of conventional tillage is needed and we are too small and close to the end to invest in some of those new implements.

Plowing down that poor man's nitrogen. Nice looking equipment.
@heatmoon3 жыл бұрын
Yea, plows turn over that above soil organic matter that actually rob the soil of the good organic matter, the root material. But corn sure takes work to get all that on top chopped up. Not everybody can run a Degelman high speed tiller at 10mph. For all its downside plows are simple and get the job done. I sure hated cultivating after plowing. Grrr
@TonyM1323 жыл бұрын
So much for the old farmer saying "Never plow snow into the ground," huh?
@crazydave44553 жыл бұрын
Haven’t heard that, wouldn’t know why it would matter. Just like to get this heavy ground turned in the fall, faster and easier to get a seed bed prepped in the spring.

So do farmers get bad backs from constantly having to sit twisted in the seat and looking back & ahead all the time?
@crazydave44553 жыл бұрын
I suppose some have issues, I usually try and sit sideways, so it’s less hard on your neck. More modern tractors the seat turns. I have heard after many years, farmers have more hearing loss in their left ear, due to it being pointed to the exhaust more from looking back.
@ArmpitStudios3 жыл бұрын
@@crazydave4455 Good point. Truckers’ left arms always look much older than the right from sun exposure. Good to see you and others wearing hearing protection. Having been a drummer for 47 years, I’ve noticed a bit of tinnitus staring over the last year.
