I was working for the French TV in these years and remember we had a new head of entertainment programs : Marie-France Brière She was a tough lady but full of talent and wanted to "change" everything in french contribution for this contest. The 80s were a disaster with viewers decline and no hits at all. Her choice was very courageaous and the song became a huge hit during summer '90.

Never fails to inspire me, on so many levels ❤ a clear memory from my earliest childhood, watching this live on my grandpa's first edition of colour TVs... Her dress glowing mesmerisingly red, and the catchy vibe... I was fascinated forever 😊

Nice to see you back! Along with Bandido, White and Black Blues set up a new trend for the contest, in mixing traditional sounds with pop music. The latter also adds a bit of cultural commentary, discussing race relations in France, and it does so beautifully. (That said, why does it seem to be forgotten, especially considering what was sent the year after?)

Competition was in Zagreb, Croatia in 1990. just before war starts in countries that was formed after war happening in Yugoslavia! Group Riva won competition in 1989. in Switzerland!

elle n'était pas la grande favorite de la soirée dans le pré-concours. Rien n'était même attendu même en France même. Mais pendant les répétitions, elle a commencé à se démarquer et a provoqué un impact énorme, ayant plus de scores 12 que l'Italie et terminant à la deuxième place. La chanson était encore la plus jouée à la radio française en 1990 et ouvrait la place aux rythmes caribéens en Europe.

Très belle chanson et voix bien sûr (je ne précise pas à chaque fois 🙂).(par contre les paroles sont un peu ambiguës quand même je crois, c'est du Gainsbourg alors je me méfie 😅). Mais sacrés passage TV et Eurovision ! 🙂🙂

Some pizzicato violins - tiny orchestration, but there was one. Check the biography of conductor Régis Dupré on All Conductors of Eurovision.

Why you do not want to write a name of city where this performance, Eurovision was happened.....is the problem to write Zagreb Croatia, member of former Yugoslavia

I never mention host city in any of my videos. Most Eurovision fans already knows that the 1990 contest was broadcasted from Zagreb. And if they don't , a simple google search will give them a lot of information about the contest. On this channel I focus strictly about the musical details such as soloists, composers, lyric witers, arrangers and conductors.
