In the countryside of South Africa, the white farmer is still at the helm, as if nothing had changed after the abolition of Apartheid. But there is unrest in the townships. How long can the farmers imagine themselves to be a chosen people?
When Bram interviews him, Julius Malema sounds pretty reasonable. White farmers do not have to be afraid, says the politician who started ANC for himself after a career in governing party ANC. Their knowledge is very valuable. He only wants to ensure through sales that much more land comes into the hands of black farmers.
Malema sounds slightly different on stage. He calls for example: If we have to die to claim our country, then that is only true. Or even: Shoot to kill! Kill the farmer! He gives a voice to the frustration that many blacks have. Twenty years after the abolition of Apartheid, little has changed in rural areas. Almost all the land is in the hands of whites. How do they themselves think about it?
In a village where Bram has been more often, the atmosphere is bitter. There has just been a robbery, the umpteenth. Every farmer has firearms, high fences and steel doors here. And there is patrolled at night. Are farmers the victims of ordinary crime, or are they conscious attempts to drive them from the land they have been living on for generations?
They are convinced of the latter themselves. A farmer's wife: "They want to frighten us. They break in and wait until you come home. Then they shoot the man and rape the woman. "But these emigrants do not think of emigration. Not even after a violent robbery: "I was born here and I will be buried here."
The black residents of the area are also embittered. Life is bad here, says a man. He has no job - the farmers prefer to hire servants from other countries in Africa, because according to them they work harder and do not drink. In the stone house that he received as compensation for a shooting, he can not flush the toilet due to lack of water. And through the fences that are everywhere in the surrounding country, he feels as if he is locked up. He also thinks he can not live anywhere else than here.
Does Julius Malema get his way and the white domination of the South African countryside becomes something of the past? For the time being, he certainly does not have the say, because at the elections in May this year his party won 6.35 percent of the votes. The ANC almost ten times as much, so that party is still supreme.
Straight Through Africa
Episode 2 - The promised land
In the South African countryside white farmers are still in charge, as if nothing has changed since Apartheid was abolished. But there’s unrest in the townships. How long can the farmers continue to consider themselves a chosen people?

Well, it is true, it's not that they aren't capable its just farming in Africa isn't wide-scale and commercialized as it is in Europe. I had a friend who had a farmer friend in Zimbabwe. Winnie Mandella and her thugs visited the property and told the white farmer he must leave. When he abandoned his farm, the thugs spent their days smoking marijuana and drinking. If I was the farmer, I would have left and burned down every building and destroyed every farm implement. By the way, after a few years the government contacted the farmer and asked if he would return because the people who took over the farm didn't know how to maintain it......he refused.

No I don't think you understand my friend when a person is fleeing for their life and being persecuted for any reason whatsoever from the country of their origin they are indeed refugees and absolutely deserve citizenship to our country these people are being hunted down and murdered out of racism hate and jealousy the immigrants from the 1700s from Mostly Holland came to South Africa and refined and built the land develop the farms in the infrastructure etc etc it's a very shameful thing what's happening. We have laws in our immigration in the United States where it protects the United States that just the poorest people in the world cannot come here these are not the poorest people these people are going to contribute more than 5 million Mexicans and the Very poorest coming from Central America who are flooding into the United States illegally these South African are contributing 1 South African farmer who knows his business and how to farm the land is contributing more than 10, 000 of the poorest uneducated Latin America's flooding into our country. They contribute that's what makes America and has made America beautiful Strong place to be but it is getting destroyed by Joe Biden and his Marxist friends which will be coming to an end in the election of 2024 and things will be put right like they were before I believe the Netherlands for the most part should be responsible for the refugees who are fleeing for their lives and I think it would be a great asset for the United States to pick up as many farmers as possible and others from South Africa who contribute is that a destroy things and do not know how to use their brain as we clearly see what's happening over there if they want the white people out then the white people should leave for their lives and then let the Africans figure it out and we can see where that's going it's complete corruption and Mayhem murder and pandemonium in the streets look how all these looters and thugs burn down their cities and looted all the stores now in the future they will have nowhere goodbye food the shops will probably be gone. At 23 minutes and 36 seconds into the video one sees the view of the barren land around the houses. At 23:53 one sees the abundant plant growth on the other side of a wire fence. This is a stark contrast between those who have nothing and those who have plenty. This imagery is abused to re-inforce the idea that the farmer has taken what he has from the black people. The reality is that on one side of the fence the land is cultivated and managed, and it is protected from those who strip it bare. On the other side of the same fence the land is not cultivated, and nothing is planted. No repair is made to the damaged land, and no repair is made to the damaged sewer pipe coming out of the house. Bram strikes me as being the sort of person who advocates using less paper because people cut down trees to make paper, while he fails to see that the paper industry plans billions of trees, just as carnivores breed more than fifty billion chickens every year. Stop eating chicken and they will soon face extinction. The point I am making is that Bram sees one person with abundant grass and another on a barren landscape, and he remains incapable of figuring out that the grass grows where it is cultivated and protected, just as chickens do. The man whose interview starts at 21:07 strikes me as being very unsteady on his feet. His unsteadiness lends support to the viewpoint that the people who have jobs on the farms are there because they do not drink and because they want to work. At 21:42 he speaks of compensation, and says that “nothing is happening here today”. “What’s the problem? Why are we claiming? Are you the one to give us money back?” An idea of expectation is expressed, and the idea is suggested that no compensation has been made for what the shooter did. This contrasts with the statement that the houses were built by the shooter (or his family, out of sincere regret for what someone else did), and that they were given houses as compensation for their losses. I am keen to know where else in the world was any person given a house as compensation for having been a family member of people who were shot. I see that he cites the only example of a white man killing black people as further injustice by white people, instead of pointing out that there is only one monument, erected by white people, to the only incident of vigilante retaliation in response to thousands of farm murders. At the end of the video Bram comments on living behind that gate, farming, “with all that grass around you” and the idea that everyone outside there is so dangerous and life threatening. On the other hand it is also so incredible that the farmers cling to an idea of centuries ago, that they are a chosen people (uitverkore volk), the hand on the Bible, the Voortrekkers, and the ever-present feeling that they see their future as being far behind them, and that this is the end of an era. I heard nothing of a chosen people, nor anything of the Voortrekkers. I see that not everyone out there is an enemy, in exactly the same way that I know that not every mosquito wants to bite me. Because so many mosquitoes have bitten me, and those around me, I take precautions against virtually all mosquitoes. If he thinks that their security measures are an obsessive manifestation of their mistrust of everyone outside of their fences, then I ask him why he is so obsessive about wearing a seat belt every single time he gets into a car, without exception, and why all the people in his country, and his continent, are equally obsessive about wearing seat belts. Are they so mistrustful of every person outside of their own car? The fact is that the seat belt wearers do see potential death in every other car, and with good reason. The only difference between the two worlds is that the drivers kill and maim by accident, and the farm murderers do so with pre-meditated intent and deliberate savage cruelty.

The men who started those farms gave their lifes blood. While awaiting the first harvest they lived on sparse game and salt fish. It was a hard life. Life expectancies ranged from 35 to 50. Removing debris, tree stumps, and stones from the soil to make it tillable. It was real hard work. Something I do not believe wannabe farmers can do. Taking over a established farm is easy. Maintaining it is not. Sacrifices and more sacrifices must be made.

The situation seems to echo history of my country. Serfdom in the Russian empire in 17-19th century was close to slavery. Abolition of serfdom came in 1861 but the freedoms were limited and without the means of establishing independent lives, people ended up often even worse off than in serfdom. Ethnic segregation between the landowning Germans (descendents of crusaders who conquered the territories in 13-14th centuries and others) and Latvians persisted. It took a war of independence for Latvia to realise land reform granting land to the peasantry. What followed was very fast economic development.

Most of the land in South Africa is owned by the existing government not by the whites or white farmers - but they do not want bare land because then they would have to work on it and built on it - no they want to take a well established farm only to destroy it within a few years. The land do not belong to the black people most of which came from the North of Africa. Whatever is built up in South Africa including existing infrastructure was put there by white people all of which is now falling apart because it is not being maintained - why because trillions and trillions are stolen by high profile people some in government. Today the hatred is spread by black people not white people that is clear. White people still have original documents on buying some of the land from Dingaan in what is known today as KwaZulu-Natal. In 1652 the land belonged to no one. There was no government no banks no infrastructure and no blacks only the tribal Koi and San people. So actually the coloured people have more rights to ownership if anything. However the white did build it up and blacks came in looking for work. Most land ownership was bought and paid for. So I disagree partly with the black driver saying that if you came here in 1652 and took the land then you have no ownership. In 1652 nobody owned the land and that's a fact. The ANC government wants to now take bought and paid for land away from farmers instead of them looking after the food producers. There is so much other virgin land owned by government. Why do they not develop this land rather instead of trying to steal from another by making theft legal for themselves. They want to line their own pockets and its race driven politics. The ANC are communist terrorists.

And we did not take it as you say or bark or think. You have been taught by false narrative to make you hate us by racists blacks. What we did was ask, trade and offer and live together to improve life for the Koi and the San people. What your people did was different though. You came out of Cameroon as the Nguni. It is fact unfortunately. You moved south invading and killing everything in your path. Yes this is true. And because you did not get on with yourselves you split up into whatvis known as the Zulu and the Xhosa tribes. You fought amongst each other killing each other for greed and power. You stole and fought over each others cattle and invaded and killed many other tribes as you moved south. It was only much later when the Boer left the Cape and went North wards to escape the British. They wanted to get away from the English Colonialist. Rightfully so.! So dont get confused by saying the Boer are colonialists. The Boer are not the English. The Boer ran away from the English. Hell they even fought them...Ever hear of the Anglo Boer War.? The Boer who were moving north to get away from the Brittish rule. The Boer then met with the Zulu who were moving South . The Boer offered peace, wellness teachings and trade but the Zulu tricked them and then killed them. Was this fair? Was this right? It was no ones land at the time. Not even the Zulus.! When the news of this reached the other Boers further South it was only then that these Boer decided to go North also. And when they came across the murderers evil Zulu, the Boer take a stand and defended themselves rightfully so. Woudnt you? They tried to make peace but the Zulu did not want peace. They wanted to kill and dominate. So what would you do.? Defend yourself surely. This is what the Boer did. They did not attack. They defended themselves. It was the Zulu who attacked. This is the famous Battle of Bood River. So you see dear Daniel....this is called history. True History that you cannot change or edit as much as you hate the truth of History. It is know facts that no one can edit or rescript. You tell me now in all fairness after considering the above true accounts.. The police’s Norman Sekhukhune told Parliament that 62 murders were recorded in total over 2017/18 during 58 attacks on South African farms or smallholdings. Ten of those killed were farmworkers or managers, and 52 were the owners or occupiers of the land. Thirty-three house robberies, six attempted murders and two rapes on farms were also recorded over this period. Sixty-two farm murders of a total 20,336 murders means that farm murders represented just over 0.3% of all killings in South Africa in 2017.

Dude, I'm just stating FACTS! This Farm Murder outcry fails when you lay out the facts. There's no white genocide happening. 1. The data showing farm murders includes all farmers, workers, visitors, and all races. This drops the number of white farmer deaths significantly. 2. Statistics from both TLU SA (organization that represents the interests of farmers) and the police showed murders on farms had decreased during the 2009-2019. 3. Not all of these attacks are racially motivated either. I'll give you just 2 examples out of many ...The Malueka family in Bela Bela, Limpopo. A black African woman named Petrus Selepe was violently assaulted. 4.Violence related to “domestic violence or liquor abuse, or resulting from commonplace social interaction between people” are not included under farm attacks. Why not??? Because it doesn't fit the narrative. 5. The erroneous reporting of "Farm Murders" by the media and other wannabe media outlets is another tactic to skew the facts. EX: The reporting of the murder of two people at a Nottingham Road estate in KwaZulu-Natal in early 2017 was reported in the press as a farm murder. However, the police advised that it was not recorded as a farm murder because the crime took place on a housing estate and there were no agriculture activities on the property which is the legal requirement and definition of a Farm Murder. Logical people aren't coming to your aide because we can see right through your trickery and bullshit. So stop crying or leave!

When a person finds it difficult to find a job because he/she is white, when someone wants to take away the land from white people, when people make you feel terrible about your white skin colour... Isn't this a form of oppression? Isn't this racism? Every single country has to protect national minorities and not make people kill them or despise them. You are all South Africans, you all belong to that land. I really love South Africa and its culture, but stop this hate.

Never in history has the hand of a people so desperately trying to help others been bitten so severely and continuously by those they seek to help, and this in the silent absent and ignorance of the brave warriors of humanity while the ill informed cry fowl from the very ancestry these people hale from. All this while 3 year old's are gang raped, mothers made to watch, grandmother burned with hot irons and hacked to death. While fathers try to stand slipping in the blood of their sons, you make your documentaries as you did in Ruanda, Zimbabwe, Angola. You are blessed in your ignorance..........

People need to stop referring to Rhodesia as Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is a rouge state that should have never been recognized by the international community. A return to stable European democracy based on English common law is the only way to decrease the violence in Africa. All that comes form the mouths of ANC politicians are the rantings of mad men.

What happens when you transfer the land to the black, you can see in Zimbabwe. There the government gives back land to former white farmers again and the government is happy that they are still willed to do agriculture in Zim again after the land was taken from them.

the same can happened to any inexperience person whether white or black. you need to read about same happening to white Americans earlier settlers or British town people brought to Australia (18 century) to farm the land with out experience. you are also part of the problem that's plagued the world. be honest and response with reason.

I would welcome them in my own country, just as I would welcome any refugee (white, black or brown), but they are mostly Dutch descent, thus the Netherlands should welcome them first. Last I heard, however, many among the modern Dutch are not great fans of them because of their past (Apartheid). Regardless, if they ever have to leave SA then the Netherlands should be the first country to offer asylum.
