I am loving your videos. It has been interesting developing my own shady borders which I can easily access during the Winter months so have under planted with smaller camellias, sarcococca, white dwarf narcissi, evergreen ferns, hellibores and scilla. In late Spring the interest is Elephant Ears Dumbo, Heucheralla Spring Symphony, Brunnera, Heuchera Lime Marmalade, followed by Aquilehias, hardy geraniums and various hostas. In Summer the phlix, purple fern like leaves and scented bottle brush flowerheads of the Cimicifugas (Actaea), Thalictrum, Japanese anemones, and the Hydrangea Macrophyllas come into their own. I've found the Actaeas do fine with the average moisture levels but my Achilleas and deciduous silvery coloured Japanese ferns really struggle to survive so it is probably not moist enough there for them. Gardening is certainly all a matter of trial and error, and failures through drought, overly wet clay winter soil, frost, etc are a continuous challenge (to the pocket too!!!). I adore your white garden, admit mine is somewhat more, how can I put it........ multi-hued (!), though I do attempt to use lime/green/purple foliage and cool tones in the shady areas, and silvery/green/purple foliage with oranges, reds and yellows in my hot border. Very zingy, lol. My latest experiment is using Sanguisorba Lilac Squirrel with its interesting glaucous foliage and amazingly tactile pink bottlebrush flowerheads in Summer. Seems fine in semi-shade, and I gather it can spread a little bit allegedly not too much. I'd love to hear even more about the varieties you grow in the different areas of your garden, what seems to work (sometimes even too well!), and what struggles and why.

I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos. I’m very much in the early stages of developing most of the garden spaces you see. The garden is predominantly shade or partially shaded and I agree it’s a struggle to find the perfect perennial for those types of situations and like you it’s trial and error. I’ve yet to grow Sanguisorba of any variety but it’s on my list. The more skilled I become with video content and video production I’ll add more plant details and I’ll certainly include any plant failures, sadly there are quite a few. I added Heuchera Lime Marmalade in the front of the spring border last autumn and I wasn’t sure how it would cope in dry, full shade, but it’s thriving so I’ve added a few more. You just never know. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment 😊

All the garden rooms are lovely!! Those ferns in the deep shade are absolutely magnificent!! Do you happen to know what they are called?
@thequarrygardener5578
@thequarrygardener5578 2 жыл бұрын
Yes they are called Dryopteris affinis Cristata Augustata bit of a mouthful. I’m one of those sad individuals who has kept every label for every plant I’ve ever bought. I grow them in full dry shade no access to moisture & hardly any soil. They remain evergreen for me most years and I rarely remove the old fronds to protect the crown. They aren’t native to the UK so you should be able to get your hands on some probably from an online nursery. They are definitely worth seeking out.
