Found your channel from Ari and as someone who studied Mandarin in the Navy, isn't xiaojien basically "young lady"? I remember my teachers saying that it's falling out of style as a casual greeting and is more often used for waitresses and call girls these days.

@@imvincentgao lol yeah I mean it's completely irrelevant considering she had no idea what the hell you were talking about but I heard you say it and instantly flashed back to listening exercises in class where the male caller on phone exercises would respond to a female operator with "xiaojie, ni hao" and our teachers thought it was funny because he was basically referring to her as a hooker.

As a Chinese, I have to say that people call young ladies 小姐姐 instead of 小姐 nowadays.小姐only occurs in formal occasions whereas 小姐姐is a new term that everyone uses.

I came here after watching the Xiaoma video. I want to sub but honestly the laugh tracks kill it for me. Also I hope all the stuff about telling girls to watch a video on you instead of actually talking to them was a joke. Regardless, that kind of talk just makes you seem like a child but with boomer humor. Xiaoma is so much more wholesome and respectful.
