That is pretty funny!!! XD White noise seems to soothe my two month old as well,but the idea of blocking kids out is just awesome! I will save the machine for his older years XD

You will never break the habit. Trust me.. I'm 37 years old.. my dad kept a fan on when I was young.. I've never been able to sleep without one...nor my brother's. Sadly we started it with our spouses and kids..now they can't sleep without one. It's a vicious cycle!!! We take our fan on vacation. (it's a hepa filter)

I'm wondering if these are really more effective than a small fan, except for the fine-turning aspect? And a fan also moves air when you need it to.

So if I have loud neighbours or other annoying sounds around me, the best fix is to waste cash on a box that makes more annoying noise? Have you guys not heard of an mp3 player with some speakers attached? What a fantastic moneysink.

I wasn't referring to music. You can easily download "white noise" files and play them yourself. These boxes are antiquated and a waste of money.

Many people can't sleep with music, as it adds its own distraction. Learn about the concept of white noise masking the full spectrum (though it won't mask subwoofers and other sources that punch through it).

When I was little I had a friend who could only sleep with the sound of TV static on, he'd just flip on the tv and unplug the antenna cable. Having a 'sleep'over with him was a nightmare!

Jarred O.o YES it does! If you have a noisy Bipap machine and you can hear your machine make more noise upon inhale and almost no noise upon exhale - you will try ANYTHING to drown out the noise during inhale. I use my fan since that is all I have right now. good thing I'm in Southern Cali and our winters only get to 35 at night or else I'd be in trouble.

+Jarred O.o, I take it that you don't have sleep apnea, no? If you had sleep apnea and if you had a noisy BiPap machine, then you'd probably go out and purchase a simple white noise machine like this one - I think this was is about 54 dollars. The nicer ones that have options (rain, ocean waves, etc) are about 99 bucks.

I use a fan at night to help me sleep... my poor mother and the electric bill! I just hope I break the habit before I move into my own place

@jaywolflover i have neighbors who allow their dogs to bark through out the night real morons. Using my air conditioner is great but costly. I hope this helps!!!!

My mum used the old hair dryer to make me fall asleep easier, now i cant live whitout my hair dryer... My electric bill is too high but i value sleep more.

Just because this is low tech people poo-poo this machine, I seriously doubt they've ever tried it. The problem with "digital" sound machines is I can easily pick up a pattern, those type definitely don't work, The mp3 white noise generators are the same, you can get a decent sound with some tweaking the "noise" but you need speakers, a player and a computer for the software initially. This machine is a fan and some holes, and the mp3 player can't surpass it

I know most Americans don't give a shit about wasting energy, but doesn't a machine like that waste a lot of energy? Wouldn't a speaker solution be a lot better?

+Jesper C. no a speaker would not drown out a noisy machine. A machine like this wastes LESS energy than a fan.
