Garp has been a navy soldier for ages and he is the hero of the navy, a living legend, people look up to him. He told ace and luffy when they were kids over and over again to not become pirates no matter what because he feared that this day may come. In the end they both chose to be pirates by their own volition fully aware that garp is a vice admira and in what position this would put their grandfather into. I can’t be mad at garp for this

Those guys who are going to quote dom torreto just remember ace has a 500 million bounty. Luffy trashed 2 government facilities and he didn't had that much bounty meaning ace had done more damage and surety killed navy personnel. He was still a criminal at the end of the day

IKR! Itachi stopped a coupe which probably would’ve hurt innocent people but he also slaughtered innocent people. Garp just landed one punch.

Garp is basically the marines greatest hero, the consequences of him betraying his men, his duty and oath, in front of the entire world, would not only damage the moral of the troops but would also be a massive blow to the marine's image and credibility. For someone of this caliber who has dedicated his entire life to the marines it's pretty easy to see how he can be so torn between family and duty. The scene where he sat besides Ace and started crying, asking why Ace didn't just chose the path he wanted for him is a good indicator of how bad all that situation is killing him inside.

Never gets old Garp just absolutely bitch slapping Marco out of the air. Marco took 2 of Kizaru's huge attacks to the chest and it didn't even phaze him, Garp jumps up and cracks him across the face and he goes from being up in the air to on the ground in an instant.

Garp is litteraly the greatest symbol of the Marines. Garp the Hero. if the hero of the marines betray them, who can they trust? who can they draw courage from? him switching side is far worse than just losing 1 fighter and the enemy getting 1 fighter.

@@MrGalRoz You're saying like the Marines are a morally good faction who needs trust. They don't, they're terrible people who support an institution that legalizes slavery, made the Warlords(most of whom use their freedom to commit atrocities right in front of the Navy), regularly commit genocide if they're even looked at funny, and much more that I either don't remember or hasn't been revealed, most of which is public and the greatest hero in the navy should absolutely know about it. Switching sides to save his grandson who the navy is literally only killing because he was related to a great pirate(which caused another act of genocide on the island where Ace was born) is the best decision Garp could make in this situation.

@@kwasibrew8072 dude do you even read\watch One Piece or you just watch youtube videos of Akainu and cp9? the Marines in the OP world are like the police and military in our world. the average marine soldier is just normal cop\soldier keeping the peace in towns and cities across the world from vicious bandits and pirates who are truly bad(not like the straw hats, more like Kidd), they aren't evil or anything. think about people like Sengoku and Aokiji, they are fleet admiral and admiral, yet they are both obviously not evil people. they may follow the world government but it doesn't inherently make them evil. i would say that even them, despite being so powerful and higher ups in the Marines, don't know the deep truths of the world government. only individuals are evil like Akainu or Spandam. even some1 as good as Saul was a Vice Admiral. generally speaking, and although there are many exceptions, pirates are evil and Marines are good. most pirates are not like Strawhats and they are evil and kill and steal , while most marines really defend from evil pirates and protects normal citizens.

People in comments section have no perspective. Garp is not just in the navy. He is a hero. He and sengoku probably best buds. He has probably hundreds of followers. Friends other than sengoku. He has future of marines to take care of. Set an example for all upcoming big names in marines. And he has most probably spent more time with these people than he has with ace and luffy. All people spouting "family" should understand that people you work with, stay with, go to sea with for days and fight side by side risking your lives, will probably be just as good as family. And even after all that he is clearly not enjoying that. He clearly looks troubled af. What are people babbling about, geeez!!

Dude is close to retirement ffs, his years old friends (all marines probably) either died because of his adopted son (ace), or were killed by his adopted son (luffy). Actually you know what? Cheers to garp for actually having the heart to show up at the war, cheers to him for actually going up there and sitting with ace, cheers to him from actually telling sengoku that he will kill akainu. He probably had 100's lf flashbacks of memories each time one of his marine friends died and you people not getting that is what makes me sick.

Dude had to swallow the reality that his adopted grandson is being executed...and then had to fight his own grandson..and watch his comrades die at the hands of pirates. Then, he watched his Ace get killed by Akainu and had to tell Sengoku to hold him down so that he wouldn't kill Sengoku out of rage. Garp is a hero in the truest sense.

Like let white beard do him, hes only human at the end of the day. Everyone has a weakness, White beard is not in shape for a heavy duty battle like this. Him being a marine is not just a job. It is his decision to decide wether to support the marines or not. Take a look at Coby. Although the marines wanted to completely obliterate the marines, Coby still managed to think straight and change the outcome. If you ask me, Garp is just being blinded by the marine/government codes. He himself knows that although Whitebeard is an enigma of evil, he is still someone decent and has a moral as a human.

It's not really unfortunate. Ace and Luffy made their choices the same way Garp did. They chose to be pirates knowing they'd become enemies to the Marines, and that Garp was a Vice-Admiral.

The Navy outnumbered the pirates by so much even with all the fleet , the allies and luffy's gang they were overwhelmed , it makes sense when you picture all the admirals , vice-admirals , other high to mid-tier marine officers , the shichibukai plus the army of pacifistas and more than 100 000 elite soldiers .

Whitebeard is sick from something but it's never really explained in detail. If Whitebeard was healthy he would have an easier time fighting anyone there even at his current age. The execution happened at the worst time for him.

Thats true. He wouldnt have gotten a heart attack, so akainu wouldnt have gave him a Hole. And then whitebeard would’ve dodged the attack that made him lose 1/4 of his head with advanced observation haki. And then, he would’ve hit akainu 10x harder now that he aint sick

Look it at like this. Garp is a police Chief, and both of his Grandssons are high level gang leaders. Garp can do little things like not catching them, but when the whole police force is out to get them, what is he really going to do. At the end of the day its your grandsons fault for being criminals and getting into this situation.

@@ciisehassan9134 That doesn't mean that he is saying he is weaker than Garp or Sengoku. He is saying that only those two have a chance of catching him in the Navy. To me, it implies that Garp and Sengoku were closest to Roger's level among all Navy officers. So they had a better chance of catching him than anyone else. They could be somewhat equal to Roger/Whitebeard's level but definitely not stronger than them.

Think about this in a real world scenario. You're the chief of police and you raise your grandkids to be police officers. Instead they become America's most wanted, world renowned criminals. Just because you're my blood doesn't mean you can commit crimes without consequences. Nobody is above the law, not even family. I can understand wanting to save Ace from execution but you have to understand how it'd look if Garp, a marine, broke the law to save his grandson just because he loved him. At that point Garp himself would become a criminal. Ace is his grandson and Garp loved him but at the end of the day Ace is a pirate, a criminal.

people defending Garp are so small-brained bc how are you defending a man serving a genocidal institution and now wanting to execute a man Garp knows damn well isn't a bad man. "but justice" my ass. "but Ace and Luffy chose to be pirates" yes, and he chose to be a coward serving a cruel master despite all the proof he had that said master is rotten to the core. and he couldn't change the system from the inside "but Ace didn't ask" you need your family to beg you to help them when they're in mortal peril? Moreover, Garp knows that Ace has huge self-worth issues BECAUSE ACE OPENED UP TO HIM AS A CHILD, he knows Ace would never ask for his help bc he doesn't think himself worthy.
