Because it is the worst bell, casting a bell, misbehaving and then cracked/grounded.

Bow are good, but I haven't grabbed the others you mention. I've heard it said that the old St Martin-in-the-Fields ring (now in Perth) have turned out better (after tuning) than their modern Whitechapel replacement.

They were probably recasting it. The church would have paid for the bell to be broken down, melted and recast due to it being out of tune with the rest of the set , etc. The visitors probably were asked if the wanted to have a go at breaking a bell. Our cathedral's 13 Whitechapel bells started sounding bad back in the 60's, so they were sent to this bell foundry( Taylor's of Loughborough) to be recast

I cast a small one other day and had to break it up whew!!! recast it again and it worked pretty good. The 1st had a big hole in the side...

the hum was G#. the prime was G flat and the third was B flat. this bell couldn't have cracked. what year was this bell cast. I had an idea about the bell being retuned. 1 ton= 1000 pounds.

1830, it probably didn't sound right, remember, it was cast by Thomas Mears II and his bells aren't always known for their quality..

@@adamm2693 bells in 1830 didn't sound the best. The changes came when Taylor's used Simpson tuning and the others followed. I'm so glad At Paul's wasn't retuned with modern tuning by Taylor's. At Paul's bells are iconic, the sound of London Whilst I have no doubt Yorkminster are the finest sou don't bells ever cast, they would sou d so wrong in St Pauls

@KDowner94 Well it didnt sound great on here, did it? It probably sounded slightly better in reality, but it was still poorly toned - it sounded no worse smash up!! :/

The bell was rejected, and after this video, they used the bronze of this bell for recasting....
