Whitehaven Beach is famous for its stunning beauty with powdery white sand, which is part of the Whitsunday Islands National Park in Queensland, Australia. Famous for its crystal clear water and 98% silica sand (the whitest sand in the world!), this 7 km long beach creates a surreal landscape that captivates visitors. This very fine and soft silica sand creates an unforgettable scene combining the vibrant blue of the sea and the bright white of the beach, which is best enjoyed from the Hill Inlet look-out.
Note: In Australia's coral reefs, especially around the Great Barrier Reef, the water color appears green/green instead of blue. The shallow waters of the ocean in this area allow sunlight to penetrate deep and reflect off the seabed, contributing significantly to the green appearance of the water. Moreover, the presence of phytoplankton and microscopic marine algae containing chlorophyll is also one of the reasons for the green color. The varied and stunning water colors (from deep blue to turquoise, greenish, and green) in the Coral Sea and around the Great Barrier Reef add a unique dimension to the region's natural beauty.
