This was a fierce fighting ship. Disabled by a 12' from the Invincible who struck its engine room, she drifted between the two battle lines, targeted by multiple British battleships, she fought to the end with a sole gun in action. She foundered during the night. The author Gorch Fock found his fate that day. Respect to this old lady and her sons. RIP.

@@looseunit1615 no doubt.. I crabbed in the Bering Sea for 7 years and that scenario played through my mind ten thousand times.. I was never far from a door when I was inside. Was always planning how I was gonna get out if the boat even acted like it was gonna capsize.. bolted for the door more than a few times. I know I would be dead in short order if I went in the water without a survival suit but that would be nothing compared to going down in a dark , inverted boat trapped in an air pocket... worst nightmare imaginable

@@gibsondrummer I think you are probably correct - though the wreck of the Lusitania was apparently depth charged between the wars - ostensibly during practice drills. I've red a lot about WWI wrecks having the brass engine components being illegally salvaged. From what I could see of hull plates removed. It looks like the SMS Wiesbaden was the victim of one of these salvage operations
@EddyDeboeck
@EddyDeboeck 5 жыл бұрын
A lot of those wrecks are damaged and robbed in the chase after brass and copper. It's far from the shore so find out who's doing this is mostly a guess. We know some salvages hunters but proof that they did it is almost impossible. I think the bottom and hull plates from SMS Wiesbaden are gone by electrolyse of the revets, but that's also a guess... Thx for your feedback..

Just a suggestion for your next video, don’t use red-colored text in the video. Aside from black, it’s the hardest color to read words from a video screen and assimilate meaning before the words disappear from the screen. White is better. Otherwise this is a magnificent video. Quite an accomplishment to explore one of the sunken Jutland combatants from all those years ago. Thank you for sharing the experience.

Out of curiosity are those long tubes for storing the cordite?
@EddyDeboeck
@EddyDeboeck 4 жыл бұрын
The cordite was normally stocked in linnen bags and as you see in the movie allready in the shells. The storage was the problem on all ships. They had a room with the cordite with a safety system to avoid explosions when they were hit. HMS Invinceble exploded when they were hit because their safty door wasn't closed.

I think so, we had SMS Pommern on our "to do" list and have been in the naberhood, but I didn't dive on it. SMS Pommern is broken in two pieces after two topedoes hit her. Some say Pommern was torpedoed by the British destroyer HMS Onslaught, others think it was HMS Obedient ( launched in 1916, an Admiralty M-class destroyer that served in World War I, and was sold in 1921). I don't remember the reason we dind't do the SMS Pommern.

@@notyou6950 You will not find anything of the dead, it has all disappeared. Only the remains of the ship and its contents are still there. Be sure if it were above the water those wrecks would have long disappeared. Those metals were used to make U boats for World War II. Beautiful circle!
