Not only the drum god, but could drive a Camaro in the saloon car races in UK extremely well, raced many times against him, in the mid to late 70s. Great friend. RIP you're still missed, great days back then.

The Drum Solo is the point where I usually go to get a drink. Can't think of more than one or two drummers whose solo is worth staying around for. And I have seen hundreds. Man I have seen them all...from Simon Phillips to Alan White, Nick Mason, Nicko McBrain, Bill Bruford, Phil Taylor, Mickey Dee, Vinnie Appice, Pierre Moerlen, Bill Ward, Bobby Rondinelli, Phil Ehart, Phil Collins...and the late, great Jon Hiseman.

It's about the some one made a full length film of him while Phil Collins was just doing an eight second drum break in the air tonight cozy was doing things like this in the seventees Catherine wheels and fireworks I recall him saying practicing in his barn and nearly blowing the roof off it's about time cozy was recognised for the perfect timing and unmatched power he had rock on cozy

Whatever the genre, Cozy IS the greatest drummer. I followed him since the early 80s with Schenker, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Emerson and Lake (perhaps his biggest challenge, and sorry Carl Palmer, but Cozy kicked ass while you were making good $$ with Asia), Brian May... You name it. Anywhere he went he was a thunderstorm!!!!

Lots of other drummers way better than this - Portnoy, Peart, Mangini, Lang etc. Don't see what all the fuss is about.
@simonfreeman6790

You can always compare better musicians, its relevant to all walks of life I`m sure. Cozy was about his time as a rock drummer, the bands he played with and his popularity in the music world. He was a fine drummer with a great image. Opinions are what makes KZfaq fun and sometimes infuriating. I agree your mention of Portnoy and Peart (rip) as maybe better drummers of their time, as Cozy was of his.
@garethjackson4836
@garethjackson4836 4 жыл бұрын
@@simonfreeman6790 I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned image! Cozy's popularity was more about his poise and looks behind the double kit and not so much to do with his playing. You say that he was a fine drummer for his time, but Peart was an ever evolving drummer until the end. His mastery and vocabulary on the kit was always expanding, and he would never settle for repetition.

@@garethjackson4836 boring though. A drummer should be a showman. He should entertain. Variety. I don't go to a concert and stand there thinking hey man them beats are just so precise. Never able to get Neil Peart or Rush.
