The Steve Vai version is good, but, even though I've listened to this version after the Vai version, somehow I like this one a whole lot more. Maybe it's because this recording has classic rock guitar sound, even though Vai's playing is beyond excellent on the other recording.
@bluesdoc4273
@bluesdoc4273 10 ай бұрын
The 2nd version is better - and I'll explain why..... This version has that "definite" classic rock" sound !! However, I like the better the 1989 remake with Steve Vai. ( Steve Vai's playing is fantastic - BUT THAT'S NOT THE REASON WHY ) ------------------------------------------------------------- In the 1989 remake, David Coverdale's voice is amazing. He pushes himself and gives a more dynamic performance. The 1989 version has stronger/kick ass singing from David Coverdale !!!

Love the bass by Neil Murray. Took me years to realise what was unique about his bass line...he sneaked in a couple of 7ths. Gave it a Jazz feel, just for a few seconds here and there. Love it x

This is a great song. I am a guitar player for 10 years, and I learned to play listening and trying to play metal and "modern hard rock" songs. But I think the early Whitesnke sound (78-84) like this is much better than what it became after 1985. Today I really like much more hard rock like this: overdriven guitar, but not fully distorted and heavy, good bass line, drums without double bass playing the entire song, and vocals without screaming all the time. In fact I became a fan of "blues rock" the last years. The songs and instument lines may be "simpler", but what matters is whether the final result is good.

@@jasonkaraszkiewicz1025 Different times man! I was an 80's teenaged headbanger and grew up with that version of the band. I hadn't even heard some of the original versions of this and a few of their late 70's stuff until recently and although different, they each have their own appeal, to me at least. But to each his own. Music wouldn't be exciting if every decade sounded the same!

I just knew it. Back in -80. I was visiting my father in Stavanger autumn 1980. 19 years old, first long trip in my "new" car. 1100 km straight from Stockholm without pauses except for number one. Well, after a few days this record was released. I couldn´t wait so I bought it for double the cost in Sweden. It is still one of my best records ever.

I also didn’t know the Steve Vai song was a remake. I like the feel of the rhythm guitar at the beginning here better. The vai solo blows this one out of the water. Both are great. David Coverdale is the one constant across all these lineup changes and clearly he’s both an amazing song writer and vocalist! Gigantic fan! And it becomes even more and more impressive as he continues to to do it, even with Reb beach on guitar now
