Always preferred this version. I mean c'mon, Jon Lord, Cozy Powell, Neil Murray, Micky Moody, Bernie Marsden and David Coverdale. Today you would simply call this a supergroup, back in the day this was just the right people getting together.... 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻

I was aware of the '82 version but hadn't heard it at the time it was released. Basically I grew up on the '87 version like most of my peers but listening to this version it does have it's unique qualities, mostly with the organ touches and the added chorus, similar to the '87 remixed single version. My personal favorite is the '87 album version I remember most and first heard.

I agree with Coverdale that "hobo" is HORRENDOUS. He says he was glad that Geffen asked for a remake.......so he could REMOVE the clumsy "Hobo" line and replace it with "drifter". (He said he originally had "Drifter" in the song, but he had already used "drifter" so many times in prior songs he went with "hobo", and immediately regretted it when it came out, ha ha.) (FUN FACT: since Paul Rodgers of FREE & Bad Company was Coverdale's fave singer, it's no wonder he used the word "drifter" in so may songs!)

tldr: rock didn't disappear folks, the music industry has changed a lot in the past 40 years. not only is 40 year old music easier to find than ever (how many songs from the 1940s were you listening to in the 80s?), but so are newer artists with that same style. it doesn't matter how popular (or unpopular) they are right now, it's by listening to them regardless, just because you like their music, that they'll get the attention they deserve. or maybe, it's not that you prefer rock to other things; could it be that you're just nostalgic? that's okay too, ya know? ;p

By far my favorite line-up of the band, seen the changes thru the years but 1st time saw them play and Mickey and Brennie working together songs like Love Hunter, Mistreated and so many more was sheer emotion.

I agree 100% with you ... as I mentioned in an earlier comment ..I can't listen to the 87 version ... it is horribly glammed up and polished with keyboards etc .. none of the original rawness ....

Whitesnake were the first band I was into at the age of 12, and I much prefer the earlier more bluesy stuff. I also had a massive crush on David Coverdale. Anyway, I've recently come out of yet another failed relationship (and I've booked therapy for it, as it can't always be the man's fault, there must be something within me attracting these abusive people) and I was lying in bed feeling very sad, when I thought "a bit of Whitesnake might cheer you up". So I put on this song. I did cry a bit at the beginning, but overall it's been cathartic. Here I Go Again On My Own. I'll survive. With the help of the KZfaq community, of course ❤️🎸

The A&R guys at Geffen basically told David "re-record this and you'll have a US nº1 mainstream hit"; but in my opinion, the credit goes to Bernie Mardsen for co-writing this Britsh classic in 1982
