In west central Arkansas here, over a million acres of public land within 1 hour drive , I'm always trying to figure out that new ingredient, it's a never ending chase/ hunt/scouting new areas, with so much terrain to cover. mountain hunting can be tough but I live for it . Success or not , I love it. I always learn something new from your videos , it can be something simple I overlooked but it makes all the difference , just from watching your videos. Thanks!

I will suggest that the clover is essential for late-season bow hunting also. I walked my farm (near West Salem, WI) last December to see where the deer were laying down tracks in the snow. Not much, except at the clover patch where they were breaking through 6 inches of crusty snow to get to the clover beneath- the only thing green in the area.
@Scofari
@Scofari Ай бұрын
No, green food. Much better things than clover. They hit your clo er because it was the only thing green.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

Amen Scott! I've seen them hit alfalfa that hard during the Winter, when they REALLY have nothing else. Charles I'm not saying clover isn't a good thing and doesn't have its place, but when you have a wider range of offering...they won't dig thru snow to get to clover when they have more to choose from. Also, that implies that there was a high volume of clover left on the ground heading into December for them to dig thru snow to get to, which isn't a good thing. You want that clover eaten in October and November hard enough ther isn't much left during the winter. It isn't a winter forage...

This spot you showed with an inside/outside jog in the woodline is closest to my goodspot plot. 660'×100'. Third year for my switch which is 15' around the whole plot plus three devideing strips to make it into pockets. Never hunted it, but it is a lot different than open picked ag. Oh yes..buckwheat-winter rye ultimate no till like you taught me.

I’ve tried early morning hunts during bow season and it just never seemed to work out as much as I would like. I know I have to just let go of my preferred hunting time and do what’s going to work.

Mornings are by far #1 during the rut...but evening is best the rest of the bow season with just a few exceptions. And yes...you never want to have a favorite tree 😉

Another great one! I've watched enough of your videos that's for sure and have been to this location a couple years ago at CKB! I'm curious though, I know you would probably never waste the acreage nor would i but I would be curious to see just how attractive an early season food source next to a heavy canopy woods would be for just bucks! I'm guessing if season opened more like Sep 1st it could be worth it if a guy had the right spot and enough acreage

Do you have a seed recommendation for damp shaded ground? With all this rain I know most of my plots will be wet this fall.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Ай бұрын
Hi Isaac...that's a tough one depending on how damp the location is. Also I'm hoping at least partly sunny. But our Fall Power 365 would be a good one with the perennial base for next year. Yes I can also add a layer of rye over the top of that in mid Sept. Brassica does poorly in damp areas so I would avoid those, and they also do poorly in partial shade. what I like about the perennial base in the Fall Power 365 is that you may want to consider it in those damp areas going forward.

Thanks Jeff, ? Your now saying it’s ok to hit your switch with 24d
@davidlarko1617
@davidlarko1617 Ай бұрын
24d is for broadleaf plants.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Ай бұрын
You have to be very careful. I've both killed and injured switch with 2-4D. I do not recommend it in the first growing season for that reason. I've personally nally used it off and on for about 15 years. Proceed with caution 😬 I just hate recommending things I know folks will use too much of, or not be careful with, and they ruin plantings...
@danwilkinson2489
@danwilkinson2489 Ай бұрын
wouldn't it be safe to hit your switch with 24D at that height to clean up the broadleafs?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Ай бұрын
It is safe at that height....I still may do it but I have a very small window with lots of rain in the forecast and coming. You risk tipping it a bit and it laying down more than you would like too...or at least leaning over a bit. You spray at 1.5 pints per acre so it's not too much and I wouldn't have to double back as it is a thin strip. Kind of a 50:50 thing at this point. I wouldn't kill the switch...but I could diminish the stand too. At the same time the weeds at this point won't kill the stand. I can clean it up very easily next year. It will still be 7'+ in front of the blind which is great too...

Another great video. I dont no what it is im jusr not crazy about early season. Its so warm here in ohio anymore when bow cones in. Last yr opening wkend was 80 out. I would rather wait till mid oct on that 1st big cold front to go. We did get alot of day time pics of some of our good bucks on the property early season tho

Dilemma in Maryland Buckwheat failed (seeds still laying on the ground), clover area has been eaten to the ground. Switchgrass didn't grow. I'll go out today and kill weeds (glyphasate) and get Brassica planted Saturday before the rain). Maybe I'll be ready by gun season. Shame, I've got a good rhythm with my bow Any suggestions?

What works best in my very dry summer location 76033 zip code?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Ай бұрын
That's a really tough question...even as someone who owns a seed company I can't tell you what to buy for your area. I would need neighbors food, amount of neighbors food, location of neighbors food, how much food they have, what size plots you have, your equipment, your time to plant, dollars to work with, soil type, pH, etc. Something green and lush they love eating beginning in early August 😊

Can I broadcast brassicas into a established clover plot
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Ай бұрын
Not with a very high amount of success unless the clover is eaten down to the dirt. The clover will shade out and kill the young brassica when it germinates.
