Super excited for this year. Planted 10 lbs in 10-15 foot wide rows around food plots and to hide our access. Sprayed simazine last week (Southern Illinois). Just hoping seed does not wash away. Thank you WHS, you guys are great! Most of my leisure time is spent trying to follow your principles.

Hi Vince really appreciate you watching! Alfalfa isn't a very high value for plot. Begins late in the spring and dies back early in the Fall. Really not s good Fall food source. For similar use clover is almost always a better choice with the exception of some of the more arid areas out West....Montana for example.

Jeff, I have a question. In this video you said you can mix your 24D and glyphosate. But, do you run all your chemicals through the same sprayer? Pre-and post-emergent, glyphosate, plot start, and plot boost? Do you run them all through throughout the year and do you ever flush your sprayer out before using the next. I know you spray certain stuff at different times of the year, but I’m hesitant to run my glyphosate in the same sprayer as my plot booster. Just looking for some wisdom in this to ease concerns. Thankful for you and love your channel.

Josh - You Need/Must/Should thoroughly rinse your sprayer, boom, nozzles out after every use. We usually run about 5-10 gallons but simazine is chalky mix and takes about twice that to get a good cleaning.

Hey Jeff, I have been watching for a year and half and did very basic brassica plot added winter rye to it as a cover because the dear destroyed it. Anyways I was able to able to spray plant the edges of the woods and a few open areas inside the parcel. Should I be concerned about the leafs blocking some of the soil or should I just frost seed and go. Worst case I can blow the leaves out and seed on top of the soil. I am not allowed to plant to agg field so I cleared out the sunniest portion of the woods and will be using the no till method. Hoping this works as it’s not an open agg field but grassy knoll with some browse. Have you done anything similar?

I’m planting Real World switchgrass this weekend. They recommend 5-6 lbs per acre and say that seeding heavier will not be helpful. Do you think I should plant at 8-10 lbs instead?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan! You should definitely plant more like 8 to 10. The deer will not bed in it unless it's their only option...which isn't a good thing. So the switch us largely for screening, a downwind blocker for stand locations, access, adjacent to actual bedding cover, etc. Also, most of those "proprietary" blends have short and tall varieties. When they are planted light the stand becomes very thin and we have had to replace very large, 15 to 18 acre fields of those mixes. 5 to 6 pounds in theory sounds good because you don't have to spend as much money when instead you will end up with a thin stand that likely won't accomplish your needs.
