Whitney Houston performing I Will Always Love You, on the UK chat show Des O'Connor Tonight. It was broadcast in late October 1992. The show was a special filmed in the USA. Have lots more Whitney clips that I dont think have been on KZfaq yet. Will upload them when I have time.

It wouldn't have been all over the tabloids, tons of artists do it and even Whitney did a handful of times (though VERY rare).

@A_Muzik Well, you can't say NEVER because we don't have all the dates from the 2 year tour. There are some recordings from 1993 where she arguably sang it in og key, one being Kolding and Berlin. Other than that the only footage of her singing it in og key is the accapela in 1995 at Nickelodeon.

Why do people of this generation make such a big deal about artist that lipsynch? musicians have been lipsynching since the 60s and probably before that. You know it's them singing the song. Sometimes they may need to save their voices for touring.

She was singing it live, but the mic was off. My question is why she was lip-syncing in the first place? This is very strange for her to do this at this time in her career. She was the consummate live performer, so for her to lip-sync this track was just odd. Although, perhaps she had a cold or something and her voice just wasn't up to this song on that day.

***** Doubtful. Going onto a talk show, you know you're not going to get paid well. The reason you go onto a talk show is for self-promotion. My guess is one of the following 1) she wasn't yet practiced enough with this song (it was still very new), 2) the show didn't provide the proper facilities or 3) the record company asked her to lipsync (most likely reason). She was no stranger to lipsyncing some of her songs. She had done this for I Wanna Dance With Somebody on Merv Griffin in 1985. For a person with her ability to perform live, asking her to lipsync is almost an insult, but she takes this performance in stride.

abigguitar Exactly the notion that she took this lip sync in stride is why it seems clear to me she didn't want to sing it live at the time. She might've been hoarse, tired, not being paid enough...but I'm confident it was Nippy's choice to not sing at this performance.

Jeffrey Smith she was lyp-syncing for her health. during pregnancy it is not recommended to sing too much because the diaphragm could affect the baby.

She was not lip-syncing. SHE was singing into a dead mic. That show (just like Soul Train) seldom allows artists to do full live performances (also for a few other reasons ie pregancy changes the voice due to hormones). HOWEVER, Whitney sweats on her upper lip and closes her eyes when performing the climax of truly challenging songs. So that audience is getting a true treat if they are sitting close enough to hear her belt.

Whitney was heavily pregnant and advised to take it easy. This UK show was actually filmed in New York they brought the show to her. She lipped because she was “taking it easy” doctor’s orders.
