Whitney Houston in her own words: A clear look into her soul

I produced this video in 2010 as a demo of how we could repurpose our library of movie star interviews... Whitney Houston gave us a long and intimate look into her life. She shared her rise to fame, crediting her mother Cissy Houston for teaching her how to sing, She also shared the bittersweet side of fame that took her away from her early love of gospel music. Whitney Houston, RIP. This is the original cut of the Houston interview. I have recently recut and mixed the interview with footage from Whitney Houston's new feature film Sparkle, with Jordan Sparks. I am using the interview to draw attention to the book "nearly Famous, Secrets, Lies and Videotape" written by Reba Meriill, the interviewer who sat down with all these stars. She shares her own struggle with addiction and how that impacted her life and career as one of Hollywoods top celebrity interviewers. her book is available through amazon.com tiny.cc/xkdwgw

Her words about how to properly sing, makes you think. It really shows you how much she respects and appreciates it. Hollywood really breaks down our gifted entertainers. Whitney was something special, like everyone else on earth. She is finally at peace. I can really tell how this woman valued life. She was really chosen to speak to us through singing, she loved herself like her song," The greatest love of all", said. This video really brought me to tears, because it touches me in a way I will always remember in the future. Rest in peace,Whitney.

They should retire the National Anthem before football games - Whitney still owns it - since her performance in 1991 - it was all left on the field - and there ain't none better!!! If you are an American - and that performance does not send shivers up and down your spine and goosebumps on your arms - check your pulse - you may be dead already - as THAT was what Francis Scott Key was thinking - when he wrote the song!!!

I have to see it at least every couple of months. And yes, it still gives me goosebumps, and tears too. I love the part when she sings "oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave". They way she turned her head. She knew she killed it. So so so perfect. Won't be another one of them anytime soon, if ever.

It's worth noting how she tried to explain to people that just because you have talent, fortune, and fame,it does not exclude you from pain, and trouble. In fact, sometimes it brings it to you as it looks like it did to her. Nobody has the right to judge her or expect her to be anything more than human even though she seemed more than that.

eyhana Merchant drugs definitely did put her in the shape she was in when she died however. You cannot look at a video of her in 2010 and a video of her in 1990 and tell me she was overall healthier in 2010. Even though drug use may have been happening in 1990, by 2012 she couldn't even sing and had no or little teeth and breathed heavily when not even moving much.

+Abbas Miah it's not a matter of intelligence/wisdom or lack thereof that caused her downfall. She had a disease plain and simple. Addition doesn't just target people who lack wisdom/intelligence, it doesn't discriminate. She couldn't help being an addict as much as someone can help having heart disease or diabetes. Sure there are ways to manage the Illness of addiction but it's exceptionally hard especially if you've been an addict for most of your adult life. Oh and before you say something like "but she chose to do drugs" initially, yes that may be true but she didn't choose to be an addict. Some people can do drugs/alcohol socially and stop whenever they want and unfortunately addicts (someone predisposed to addiction) can't.

"Success doesn't change you fame does" .. Makes sense to me. Whitney was no fool, in fact her first angel (her "dear" Mom). Taught her plenty. Looking back at this video, makes me wonder had Whitney stayed in the church. Perhaps singing gospel, would her life have turned out differently.

Around the four minute mark, Ms. Houston talks about how money not buying happiness. When I went looking for employment after college, my grandfather warned me that money won't buy happiness regardless of how much money you make. He even said that either you live within what that paycheck says or you pay a heavy price for not doing so. This two to three days after my father said that nobody is too good for a certain job, regardless of one's level of talent, education, or natural ability. I've never heard better advice in my life. We all need to live according to it if we're going to make it in the world today.

You know when you are an artist the folks that buy your records aer drawn to the artist because that art, music vocal style touches them. Its soul touching soul. So you feel that you can relate especially when the interpretation of a song stirs up emotion. You make an emotional connection that why your records get sold. So to say her drug addiction is none of the publics business is wrong. Her fans care and love her its everybody's darn business when a beautiful person destroys themself.

Uszanujmy głos,i talent.

Stella Parisima Well, I happen to think it's something a little more sinister going on. I know alot of people scream "conspiracy" but it's not far fetched at all if you really do some investigating...

Otrebor Fashion scene That's true, Their life styles more than anything is what ends up killing them. but, it's a new day and a new age and the celebrities of today sell out alot more, or have to pay "a higher price for fame" then ever before. It's no longer about the "talent or the skills" of the person, they just want to get paid and be worshipped like a god.

I love the way she spoke about her mother Cissy and how she learned to sing and command her voice!!! She was Amazing... I love her and Cissy. Cissy was a back up singer for Elvis Presley. I believe Cissy left the back up group so she could raise her children.

This is a very enlightening interview. It is true, money and fame does not bring you happiness. Look at these Hollywood stars, they all have issues even though they have money. This should be a lesson to the youngsters who want instant fame and live in a material world. Careful, you might end up like her.
