Her transitions were flawless here, along with her melisas. Her head voice was and will always be angelic. And her run from her head voice to chest voice was really unbelievable and can never be duplicated by anyone. She and Mariah really was something special

@marcchesley37315 жыл бұрын
Melisma or glissando is when you do a bunch of notes that comes after each other like stairs like do re me face so la ti do and you do each note very quickly and glide over each one in a melodic tone. The problem is everyone tries to do them but they dont hit the right notes and it throws off the pitch and doesnt sound good. But Whitney mastered it better than any female artist I know and she does it with ease.

That woman’s voice was deadly. I had the pleasure of hearing her perform in Atl Ga in 1999 on the MLIYl tour and she wasn’t in perfect form in the beginning. I guess her vocals had to warm. Two songs in she gave her blood sweat and tears so I could experience God touching her chords. People won’t believe how heavenly those chords were unless you heard her live. But you are accurate in her performances. Love to hear your opinions.

JustTheVoice, I agree with all of what you said in this performance- - her melisma, magnificent head voice, transitions, tone, vibrato, control etc etc. However, you did of mention her evident self-confidence and humility and lyrical phrasing! It is as if she is having a stroll in the park while executing very difficult, complex vocal challenges. Of course, she always makes it look very easy and effortless, without any hint of show-boating or boastfulness! In addition, she required no props or gimmickry to hold the attention of an audience. Her powerful yet silky smooth voice together with her poise/grace, class and stunning natural beauty were more than enough to command attention. But this is simply a measure of her God-given talent and divine gift! I have to say I am happy that on my first sighting of her way back in 1985 (the video "you give good love") , I decided that she was the greatest singer I ever heard!! Amazing but true!! And let me say, up to that point, I had head some of the greatest singers of all time. Thank you Whitney for providing me and the world with absolute joy, pleasure and sheer happiness , simply by stepping in front of, or holding a microphone, then using your magical instrument (your voice). I will always love you!! Baulbeer Persaud

When she got to the part Never again that's what I said to myself....I I never wanna feel that kind of pain again boy hey but when I think its over just when I think it through.....all of this is straight chest voice but the masterful part of her musicality begins with the next line. See I find myself back in love with you oh. She came into that part with her mixed voice so when she got to the you she was able To masterfully go from mixed voice into her head voice with ease no breaks or cracks and when she broke it down with that run came from head voice back into mix voice and kept it there. Then she went back into chest voice. That some transitions for your ass. This is why I say with all due respect to other great singers namely Mariah and Celine they cant transition from chest mixed voice into head voice back into mixed voice back to natural chest voice. Whitney mastered all three and she learned to do it even better as her voice changed from Soprano 2 to mezzo soprano and along the way she embraced her alto and it was over! She could still sing soprano 1 and 2 notes in her head voice but her chest voice is alto and her mixed voice is mezzo between alto and soprano. I have observed analyzed and dissected this woman's vocal range and tone quality its flawless. She mastered all 3 voices runs inflections colorature crescendo pianissimo melisma and resonance and she knows when to blow you away with a belting note how to raise your hair on end with a head note with beautiful melisma to round the note out and a controlled vibrato that has so much resonance it will make you cry. She had no weaknesses in her voice and that is what makes her the best female vocalist in the world. She has perfect diction in her words you can hear the last letters whether it's an s r t p you can tell the difference between her f and s. She was one of God's precious gifts to music. In my opinion God gave some talent to sing, the gift of voice, then there is the anointed voice. Whitney had a special anointed voice not many people get!
@fawnsworld815 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know that it was the anointing she had that made people feel what she sang. Don't get me wrong she has the prettiest voice ever but without the anointing it is just that. No one knows about that and can't explain why, what it is about her voice that makes it so much better than everyone's else's.

One of the best parts about Whitney Houston singing is she doesn't use ear pieces to hear the music unless the speakers are loud then she may use them but very seldom did she use them so she can hear herself in her head. For me she is still in her prime just more mature!

Another convincing example of the vocal genius of this iconic,legendary singer and Queen of the Divas. I endorse all of the comments of JustTheVoice, but I would simply add that during that remarkable expression of vocal versatility (between 3.5 to 4.16), she not only went up multiple octaves to the head voice, then came down to her chest while simultaneously infusing melisma at the end of her angelic chest voice, but all of this was done with immaculate control, which made the whole episode seamless and effortless!! I have said it many times before , but let me say it again - no singer, living or dead, can challenge this beautiful Princess, when it comes to stepping in front of a microphone) and using that God-given instrument ( vocals) of hers! I have never met this lady, but feel like she was my best friend, with whom I have been acquainted for many years!! This is due to the sincerity and conviction with which she sings , her emotive ability and the fact that she sings in service to her songs.This makes it very easy to instantly connect to the message she is conveying, and makes me think that she is singing only to me, when in fact this is not the case. That is a rare gift indeed! She is irreplaceable and incomparable! Baulbeer Persaud
