Gene, you have been an inspiration to me and, along with a couple of other folks, have inspired me to begin, learn and improve my skills carving. I dontbthink that enough people understand how LIFE CHANGING carving can be. Something about the interaction between your head, hands, blade and wood that is deeper in one's psyche than might be realized. Thank you for the knowledge you share.

Gene...I most definitely will keep you posted. I ordered my knife after seeing your reply. One final question on this thread: Do you have a video on how to sharpen your carving knife? If so, can you share the link here for me? I did scroll through your videos for quite some time but couldn't locate anything for as far as I've scrolled. If you don't have a video, there's my video request for you for a future video. Haha! Joking aside, I'd be very interested in learning all of the steps on how to sharpen the knife and how to keep it honed since that's a very important step in the carving process, so I've learned.

@@bellachig8027 Doug Linker (who was inspired by this man, Gene Messer) has a video on the subject. If you hone it on a leather strop with some polishing/cutting compound, and do it regularly, you will never need to use a stone. It couldn't be easier (unlike sharpening a chisel or plane iron)!

Point of View: (*-See Below) In listening to the beginning measurements, the feet was marked at 'measure about 1/2 inch, then draw your line 1/8 inch past that. Make it 3/8 of an inch.' 1/2 inch = 4/8. If you draw your line 1/8 past that, it will be 5/8 inch. I don't think I missed it, but you can correct this. In all the delicate cuts developing the arms, "you can cut it like this, but it's better if you make this kind of cut." Your thumb blocked the whole demonstration. I am impressed by your results, and you come highly recommended, but everyone has their own way of carving a caricature. You take a 1 inch x 1 inch x 4 inch piece and carve face on. Almost all others who demonstrate beginner's carving take a 1 inch x 1 inch x 4 inch piece and carve by using the corner as the focal point whereby they develop the structures from there. Thank you for your instruction. I am the kind of life-long learner who will take from whatever instruction I can and apply it where I need to. (* = I am the world's foremost expert on my own opinion.)

Ok 🤣🤣Obviously you spend a lot of time on numbers ..measurements and correct analysis ..I dont .. When I carve I can sit down and not even thinking about all that just have fun carving a figure ..I suppose maybe thats all necessary for some people but in doing caricatures .. I have a lot more fun just working it all in my head ..With all that analysis of how you figure on doing something ..why dont you have a you tube channel yourself teaching people how to do something ..you sound intelligent enough too ..Think about trying to do it sometime ..God Bless
