Different Flavors Of Tae I put more thought into it, and my thoughts have went from “it’s possible that an aristocracy created the watchers” to “I’m fairly certain”. Bierce states that the creation of the watchers using the ring was “a waste of power”, and is very blatantly displeased with whoever was doing so. This *very strongly implies* that whoever made the watchers *did not understand how powerful the ring was, and that the creation of the watchers was a bad and wasteful idea.* Many think Malak created the watchers. Well, to that, I must ask “wouldn’t Malak have a *very* clear understanding of the ring’s power?” He’s an immortalized Liche or demon who clearly has great experience with the occult. So, why would Malak waste The ring’s power in such a lavish and reckless way? Surely he would not have done so, when he could have clearly used it for other purposes? We know that whoever was responsible for creating the watchers did not understand the power of the ring fragment, and was seemingly inexperienced with the occult, or at least not enough so to properly use the ring in a practical manner. Malak would not have done so. Hence, an aristocracy did so, and, because they did not understand what they were doing, it appears as though they paid dearly, perhaps being killed off by their own watchers, as they may not have been able to control them. After all, they didn’t understand it all in the first place. Hell, even the name “Deadly Decadence” implies this. Decadence means to slowly decay, generally used to describe the aristocracy as a whole. So, “deadly decadence” insinuates that the Manor’s owners got greedy, and tampered with the occult, ultimately destroying themselves through, well, deadly decadence. Also, the writings on the walls of the secret room fit the narrative of a greedy nobility, too. “They were weak” fits well with “peasant shall serve”. Ultimately, the Manor was likely owned by aristocrats who made the watchers, and destroyed themselves in the process.

There is a very fine difference between a father and a sire. Malak could be Agathas father but not her sire, as he treated her more like a daughter than her blood father

I think more of a platonic daughter and father figure relationship, but we must remember that malak is very selfish, and could very well have *ahem* maybe groomed Agatha into a servant, or molded her into something for him to use as a pawn like the others.
