I don’t know how much you know about Holostars, but after being a fan for more than a year, I think these may be the reasons (please feel free to correct me or add anything) :) 1. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 When Holostars first started, they were not part of Hololive production and were considered completely seperate to Hololive. (They later merged). Since there was no hype around their debut and only negativity, they struggled to attract viewers for their first year. 2. 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐬 Being a part of Holo pro has been both a curse and a blessing for Holostars. It is a curse because many Hololive fans do not want to watch male VTubers (fair enough). But some Hololive fans hate males associated with their idols and refuse to acknowledge their hard work. The extreme fans look for every opportunity to criticise them. While haters exist for almost every VTuber group, the hate is more prominent for Holostars because they did not have fans to begin with. On a positive note, being in Holo pro has been a blessing as they have had access to some of the best 3D model technology and management in the industry. In the present, some of the boys are also able to connect with a few of the Hololive members! 3. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐬 The reason why the boys aren't as popular as some of the Nijisanji boys such as Kanae, Kuzuha, Kenmochi, Akina, Mayuzumi, Fuwa Minato and Kaida is because of this idol stereotype. While they are also excellent gamers, singers and entertainers, many male VTuber viewers see Holostars only as a group for female fans. I've seen comments by non-viewers stating that they don't want to watch "ships and fan service provided by men." (Please note there is only 2 prominent ships often acknowledged by Holostars (hanakishi and MaFia?), the rest mainly appear to be units). 4. 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫 As you can probably tell by the comments of this video, the majority of Holostars fans are overseas viewers with a wide range of Japanese comprehension. As a note to Nijisanji fans: Nijisanji EN's Luxiem is completely different to Holostars. Luxiem has the freedom to interact with all the Nijisanji members and their native language is english. Furthermore, Luxiem has the support of Nijisanji fans. Hololive fans like to mention the fact that they would watch Holostars if they could understand them. There is also a misconception going around the Hololive community about the lack of english Holostars clips. This was the case a year ago. However in 2021, the amount of clippers and eng clips exploded to the point where I haven't even been able to watch them all. The "Holostars en when?" Hololive fans simply do not care enough about Holostars to find these clips. 5. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐦𝐬 As mentioned in the above comments, people do not actively seek out Holostars content. Holostars clips and videos hardly get recommended to non-Holostars fans. The clips with the most views (with the exception of certain Roberu and Temma clips) are collabs with Hololive members. This adds to the haters' narratives about Holostars "leeching of Hololive's popularity."

A nice synthesis of motives. So I guess what's left to mention is that despite the problems, the boys' fans are a pretty firm and supportive community, as well as pretty chill. Although they are not as famous as the two groups mentioned, they are a very self-sustaining group with a relatively good reputation in the Vtubers community; several always mention them at some point and some are even avowed fans, which if I'm not mistaken, is the case of some members of Animare Their growth was certainly difficult, but if you compare it to several normal Vtubers groups, like the Animare mentioned above and even the VOMS project, as well as independent Vtubers, Holostars is well above a considerable level of fame. The hardest part is over, now all that's left is their slow but steady development. Their first concert shows well that a good future is coming, and hopefully with the new members and news announced for 2022 they will get an even bigger burst of recognition than in the 2021.

I would say that they started to blow up internationally after Roberu's "winning son" and "cafeteria in my soul" clips went viral. But Iofi, Ollie, Matsuri and Fubuki really helped them to get more exposure within the hololive community
