Southampton have new owners. Sport Republic Ltd, backed by Serbian billionaire and television tycoon, Dragan Solak, and owned by former Brentford co-director of football Rasmus Ankersen, have purchased a majority share.
Southampton were once known for their savvy in the transfer market and their dedication to promoting from their youth teams. So will we see a return to that? Will we see the implementation of Brentford’s Moneyball-like approach? And how does Solak operate?

As someone who lives in Serbia, I must say that Solak is a very competent business man. He owns, probably, the only independent media in the country that is slowly but surely becoming authoritarian again! I'm jealous of Southampton, would much more love if he bought Partizan Belgrade for example. He is not an Abramovic type, and will probably not pump in the club billions. But i'm sure that he will steady the finances of the club, and invest a proper amount of money. He is a sports fan, and most certainly will look to preserve the traditions of the club, in this beautiful game called football. Tifo, as always, very well researched, kudos to you guys.

As a Southampton fan I'm very pleased with this acquisition. The Chinese owner was a complete non-entity, and led to stagnation. Hopefully we can start pushing for the Europa League spots again.

Love the research that went into this. There's all the raw materials for a success "relative" to Southampton. A whole city behind you, an iconic jersey you can instantly identify, and historically, having a brilliant academy. It will be an interesting time for Southampton. ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

It was only 9 years ago that Brentford lost a League One play-off final to Yeovil Town. Brentford are now in the Premier League, and Yeovil Town are in the National League.

Fosun Corporation have a very good recruitment policy going on at Wolves. They acquire talented youngsters fairly cheaply, nurture and develop them, turning them into much sought after footballers. They did this with Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Pedro Neto. Other youngsters such as Max Kilman, Toti Gomes, Rayan Aït-Nouri are also beginning to shine. I think a similar policy could pay dividends at Southampton as well.

Very positive for Southampton. I remember up until recently they were a machine that constantly churned out young talent which proved very profitable for them not only in the transfer market but on the pitch as well. Hopefully they can regain that system and push for European spots in the future like many thought they would do a few years ago.

*Off topic* Tifo, please can you do a video explaining how the European leagues are deemed to be slower paced than the Premier League? The few times I have watched La Liga for instance I have been impressed... Actually thought it was more back and forth than the premier League which many teams seem to pass it back and sideways. Are you sure this "Premier League is the fastest league in world" isn't just myth? I support Arsenal but it would be interesting to see some actual numbers behind this other than just pundits and fans saying the same things. Thanks

Haha yeah the pandemic was rough to deal with but at the same time the prem is just still going strength to strength of power and revenue and that is extremely appealing to investors, as long as the owners aren’t just looking to milk the cow and not treat it right like Kroenke or glazers then I’m fine with owners selling

That was absolute jargon from them, I really hope it works for Southampton but that sounds like issues. The days of Les Reed having a well planned system seem very much gone......but we will see.

@Lew I hear that, as a Southampton fan, you will know more...from an outsider that loved the direct and understandable vision of the technical side that Reed ran, i know that it hit a rough spot for a bit (technical side, not financial). I just cannot stand that "vision" talk from owners these days, rubs me up the wrong way🙃

I don't like the idea of a company that's only existed for a month buying a football club, and I don't trust anyone with the surname 'Kraft' to run anything very well.
