It seems like daemonic incursions and infestations are common in places of pure abject despair and agony. Pretty much a good chunk of the imperium.

I get that from our perspective that their cannibalism is abhorrent... but for them it's just unprocessed corpse starch. It's the in-universe equivalent of sneaking a couple french fries while you're working fast food. Everyone is committing cannibalism. These guys just take scraps off of the assembly line to start out. That is NOT inherently evil in the context of their lives. It's actually understandable because most of them are likely kept on the brink of starvation anyway. I get that later on the raving lunatics cant be justified for their actions.. but I wonder how many people have been targeted by the inquisition just because they were hungry, not because some demon god was whispering in their ear. It's not like eating human flesh is uncommon in the imperium. It's the majority of most people's diets
