The ancient Egyptians were obsessed with divinity, death and the afterlife and reincarnation. Christy Kenneally visits Saqqara, south of Cairo, where the Egyptians learned the technique of mummification and built the first pyramid, an early prototype for the grand monuments of the Giza pyramid complex. He journeys on to explore the ruins at Abydos, Karnak and Luxor, arriving finally at the island of Philae, the site of the last hieroglyphics and a little-known shrine to Egypt's lost Gods.

I really would have loved a documentary focusing on the stories and myths of the Egyptian gods. Like the story of Osiris is really interesting, and he barely skimmed it. I’d have liked to hear about Horus, Hathor, Min, Ma’at, etc. I could name others, but know I’d forget a few.

Yeah but kind of rare to find good docu about it. Mostly were mortal Phaorahs. In an article I've read, these gods were first to be the ruler of Egypt then followed by mortals. Some of these gods were illustrated on the wall with Green skin like Ptaah.

Sorry but that was rubbish. Very misleading title. I expected more about the gods themselves and only a handful were mentioned. Just focused on death, tombs and all the usual stuff that everyone who has a vague interest in Egypt would no doubt already know about. Something more in depth would have been far more interesting, for example, how the Egyptians lives were influenced day to day by their belief in the numerous Gods and Goddesses (and demons). Very disappointing.

It's interesting, certainly, and has gorgeous cinematography. But there is NO mention of the "lost gods of Egypt". Why didn't the narrator talk about Sobek, Nut, Bastet, or Taweret? Where was mention of Set, Anubis, or Thoth? What about Ptah, Horus or Hathor? And these weren't even *minor* gods & goddesses. I recommend changing the title of this video to something less misleading :)

There is a handsome new book of 224 pages with 185 brilliant color plates titled "Sacred Deities of Ancient Egypt" that illustrates in illuminating color photographs and detailed text the lives and beliefs of the gods and goddesses of ancient Egypt. Many of the photos of the actual tombs and hieroglyphics have never been reproduced before. The book ia available through Fine Arts Press.

@zatoichi995
@zatoichi995 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct about being sent dizzy by this "documentary". But you need more fingers and toes. There are the remains of, at least, 10 pyramids at Giza. Only the pyramid of Menkaure seems to have had a significant covering of Granite. The pyramid of Khafres' lower courses were granite but only a few. In fact over 25% of its outer courses are still there, near the top,and they are all white limestone, obviously not granite. The great pyramid has only a few Tura limestone blocks left, and no one is really certain it was covered with such, much less a gold cover capstone.

Most don’t realise that the environment, weather patterns and even the lengths of the day have changed throughout history. We’re still in an “ ice age “ but the ice has waned and will wax again, spreading how far we don’t know. Pole shifts and maybe even crustal displacement have occurred throughout too. At the time of typing this our magnetic poles are migrating and we don’t know if it will lead to a pole shift, the last one was 750k years ago. The evidence in the Sahara desert points to it having once been lush with vegetation and plenty of rainfall. The Giza pyramids may well have been made thousands of years earlier, probably in the age of Leo (10k BC) if you follow the precession of the equinox’s and its orientation. They haven’t got a clue how these structures were made, certainly not with copper chisels.!

"Built AS tombs." There's extensive evidence that the pyramids were intended to be tombs, we know that mastabas were, and we know that the first ever pyramid started off as a fancier mastaba. And also like the other guy said, grave robbers hit all the main burial sites. There was also a priest rebellion I remember reading about, where even the most trusted priests ransacked old tombs and pillaged them for their treasures when Egypt's economy was suffering.

It does not account to other theories about the building of the pyramids and the pharaohs. Somehow it is not well researched.

Pyramids were build long before the Pharaohs were there. Dates are wrong. Always deceit, isn't?

Too much speculation, Sphinx original head was probably Anubis. We are ready for the truth, no more BS please.

No, Lion for Leo, and facing said constellation. Was before the flood of Noah's time and just maybe created even before the flood of Atlantian / lesser Dryad times. And if we go by the repair Stella that they found, then there is a second Spinx sitting somewhere, facing the opposite direction. It might be noted that this stella shows the Spinx on top of a platform/building/temple. People have been inside it but... no on is talking or releasing video about it.
