Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler

Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler

Күн бұрын

Spring is here and the earth returns to life. To start with, all seems pure so, how do we end up with the corruption of war? How does it start? Starting, as always, from pure being, John shows how we fall into separation and hence project a world around us. Forgetting original purity, we enter into our own impure projection - with judgement and blaming 'others'. But, doesn't it start with 'me'?

It's 7pm,and still light now the clocks have changed. We've had a few snow flurries here in Somerset today, but it's a beautiful evening now and I'm sat crocheting a woollen blanket, listening to you John. As I glanced out of my window an absolutely beautifully bright red breasted robin, is having a lovely splash in the birdbath, and a very frisky blackbird is looking hilarious as it puffs up and chases after a very unimpressed potential mate....a beautiful robin, a frisky blackbird, and John, my very own wise old owl 🦉....a perfect ending to a perfect day ❤ Bless you both, and thank you 😊

It is so good that John always starts with the stilness, feet on the ground, hearing it often helps to do it,And when John was talking I thought about a verse in the bible which says, in Him,( God,Jesus,Holy Spirit)we live and move and have our being,We are His offspring. Through meditation and stillness learn to go to that place inside, over and over again! I am still listening but i wanted to write this down.maybe more later😊

Thanks, John and Phil. The effects of ASMR are greatest with his talks in the old church. Only improvement I'd like to see would be for the volume on John's voice to be louder. That would help because other things I may listen to afterwards, including ads unfortunately, would blast me out if I don't remember to turn the volume down. In terms of his message it is very consistent with his other videos. It is important to me that people get involved with issues but, on the other hand, becoming less judgmental is a great asset. His words are very thought provoking.👍

What am I? The question echoes still Am I this body, this form, that time will eventually kill? Or something more, a spirit pure, that's always here, unchanging The name and face that's here today, but gone tomorrow, fading Am I the sum of all my thoughts, the memories I've accrued Or something deeper, a consciousness, that's hard to understand and construe Perhaps I'm but a fleeting thought, a dream that's passing by A drop in an endless ocean, an endless sky Or maybe I am everything, a part of all that is A thread in the grand tapestry, an eternal bliss

This is one of the best of "his videos" on this channel. I would like to ask him whether his cosmology then implies that the suffering of a Koala bear burning alive in a bush fire millions of years ago really _"started with me"_ today. Have _we_ then _created_ the billions of years of apparent past by _our_ fall _(apparently much, much later)_ and does this past have no real existence apart from that ?

I find merging into oneness terrifying. Isn’t that oblivion? Don’t you need more than one for love? You need the “other”.
@mikefoster5277
@mikefoster5277 2 жыл бұрын
You might 'need more than one' for our traditional sense of _human_ love, but it is not necessary for love itself to be. We could say that God = simply what is. And at a higher level of awareness, we can also come to the recognition that love is actually the same thing. In other words, God = what is = love. So there's no 'merging into oneness', because oneness is already all there really is. And it can't be 'oblivion', because it cannot _not be._ You might say, then why all of this duality in the first place? Well, that is the million dollar question! Presumably God simply wants to taste, to experience, to know, to enjoy itself and therefore requires the creation of duality through which to manifest all of that within itself. In which case, this means that there's no 'fall' and no 'sinner', as John tends to teach. Everything merely happens by itself - naturally, spontaneously and inevitably.

Mr. Butler, you have helped me immensely in my spiritual journey. I see you as a true modern day prophet. I also know of your own close family ties and history with Russia. I believe this may be hindering your perspective and sight of what's going on in Ukraine right now. Throughout history there have always been tyrants. This century it seems, Vlad is making his case. I acknowledge my own sins in life, but I cannot fathom what ever sins I may have committed in my young life could possibly have an impact on what Putin is committing presently. My sins are not mutually exclusive with his, nor will they be until I murder countless thousands without regard for civilian war crimes, humanity, and the right to life. Those who do not speak out against atrocity, appease it in doing so. That, I cannot be.

John and Phil, always good running into you guys...an old friend of mine would call that a God Happening or no coincidence...i love your constitution / dispositions and boundless curiosities...i sit here, with each visit, torturing myself with knit pickings taking little different views than you might but always, feet on the ground butt in the chair and realize the Oneness, the visceral truth in your message and in your being is true right on stuff...God stuff...like you are a huge God cotton candy sorta kinda...did Hitler reap what he sowed?...i think he sowed but didn't reap kinda sorta...Thich Nhat Hanh died recently and you two guys are one to me living the same doing the same...we are all unique in that we are the same and we are all the same in that we are unique...Thich said 'a cloud doesn't die'...neither do i, so to speak...not so to speak...i , or the I of i, is always...oh, Phil/John , thanks a hell of a lot for the shots walking in under the tree and walking out under the tree...you fellows didn't miss a thing...whoever made sure you got that walk and tree and cemetery stones in there, i love you...just the place , creative movie making and the whole schmeltz you guys put together is is a present, a gift and a presence unfolding and expanding and bringing beauty to all...a friend often says 'there's only one constant in the universe'...(maybe there are 16 or 98...who cares anyhow tee hee) ... talking makes idiots of of us all sooner or later...Thich mentioned how , now and then , he'll practice bringing someone to mind like your mom or grandfather or Hitler or your wife or boss or your neighbor or some enemy and just imagine that person at 3 years old...changes everything...people are 'interbeings'..everybody is supposed to be crazy but they don't realize it yet, so to speak..dynamics exist in 'human affairs'...why take sides when the world is round'...someone told me there is a war and i should tune in on what Ukraine and Russia are doing and i said there's a fray, there's entertainment and he ought not be telling me what to 'pay attention to'....humans like to pay attention to and be paid attention to...express and be impressed by...when that ceases then there is visceral, ongoing, eternal freedom...you guys get me going and i swear i've written thousands and thousands of words in response to your visits that i've never sent because i need to wordfreeness along with freefreeness ... what?....i always tell people to have a 'good one' or have a 'good day' knowing i don't 'believe in good and bad existentially' but align and attempt living a moral goodness grounded in nature's ongoing example , engaged in and absorbed by , with simply a gaze at a blossoming tree with an old duffer with a cane walking under it's beauty...John you are a lovely blossoming , opening and giving forever...have a good night's sleep your beard is still looking wonderful and your cheeks rosey....loves

@kodfkdleepd2876
@kodfkdleepd2876 Жыл бұрын
I will say something different. Saying it started with you is also playing the blame game. I do not think the universe or anything in it is to blame. I think the universe is what it is and it is our perceptions of the universe that place blame on things. In some sense, we want to experience the universe and in doing so we also have to experience the negative parts of the universe. One cannot experience or exist separately from the universe except by dissection. That is, the universe is everything, good, bad, etc. Duality comes about when we dissect. When we it changes the universe as the one in to the universe as the many. In this process of dissection we *experience* parts of the universe that we cannot experience when it is one. If you combine good and evil in to one you have neither good nor evil, they cancel out. If you want to experience good(or evil) you have to experience the other. As we try to experience one or the other we are forced to experience the opposite as a distinct thing. If we want to experience ecstasy then we will have to experience at some point, the opposite of ecstasy. It is the nature of the universe, whatever it is, that it works a certain way. It is infinite but limited. That is, it is both infinite and finite. It is the union of all. Hence it contains everything we could ever imagine. Anything we imagine or do it has to contain but it will also contain the opposite of those things. We cannot have our cake and eat it to. When we want to experience a part of something, we are forced to experience another part and then another and another and another. It snowballs and the further away we get from "home" the more we are dragged out to "sea" by a snowballing effect. In mathematics there is the concept of instability. It exists in many things but the idea is that locations/points that are unstable cannot have existence. The basic example is trying to balance a marble on a pin head. It cannot be done because the pin head is unstable(the traditional example is to use a bowl). Life is more like us being a turtle caught in a swirling vortex stream in which we want to get to land but when we get close the stream pulls us back around then flings us around and around and sometimes we get closer to land and then are pulled back. The closer we get the the more we are pulled back. If we fight long enough we can remain near the land but eventually we tire and are pulled back around. Or maybe we find a place of relative rest that is easy to maintain. But this is life and death. Each life we can experience what we experience. It can be somewhat peaceful, sometime turbulent. It can be sane or insane or any combination. We can learn a great deal only to be ignorant in the next. It is different every time. It is like a merry go round that never ends. I imagine the "issue" we experience with life is not wanting the merry go round to stop. As a kid we've all experienced wanting to keep playing for countless hours as if we never tire. But we eventually do tire and are swung around again and again. We want back on though but then get tired but want back on. Whatever is, the "blame" is us in that sense... but either we can never stop the process and maybe that is our problem with life or we think we will be forced to stop and fear losing it. I doubt it is something we can know because if we knew the true answer then maybe that is what makes it stop... and probably just leads to another ride. So maybe if we ever do figure it out, well, we don't figure it out. One thing in my life that I have learned is that it seems the more intelligent I become the more ignorant I become. That is, the more I learn it seems the more there is to learn. I know so much more than I did as a child and yet I feel more ignorant than ever. My personal belief is that we(or some of us, maybe just me) exist in this life to learn(I have good reasons for that belief) and the dissonance comes when we are not learning. I think the universe is vastly(infinite of infinite of infinite .... degree's more complex) than we can imagine. We are more like newborns in the grand scheme of things and life is our pre-school. There is fears, joys, ignorance, education, etc but it's just the first step in a journey that, just like we learn through as we age in this life, we will learn as we age in the larger scheme. I do not think we life in sin but in ignorance. "Sinners" are people who do ignorant things that undermine what they are suppose too do. Just as kids are taught by right and wrong by their parents, as we age our parent becomes the universe and it tries to teach us and when we do not learn we are "sinning"... but one can't blame the child for sinning because they are born in ignorance. Part of life is learning that sin is innate but it is not bad in the way religion states it. That is, one is to learn that ignorance is the foundation of life only so you can grow away from it and not remain in it like a child. Some children learn faster than others... some remain quite ignorance. It is not good or bad but the way it is. The universe wants to teach us that that ignorance is not a place we should remain since it is like getting stuck at a fixed point. Of course that is just my take because I can't speak for the universe. I'm just saying that I think there is a lot of ignorance about sinning that confuses people. Id o not beat my child for "sinning"... and neither does the universe. But ignorance is not a state to remain in and that is what the universe wants to teach(and in that sense one can say ignorance is "bad"... as long as one doesn't take it too "literally" in our everyday sense).

I'd say John is a teacher of spiritual truth and experience. Anything else is labels and ultimately unnecessary. I come from a Zen background and much of John's teaching resonates with the teaching I had in that tradition. But that tradition encourages one not to see truth as 'Zen' or this or that. All we know is the present. Our ideas of the past exist solely here and now, in the present.

Hey John, why did you remove the video about the Russian Ukraine conflict. I thought it was very informative. Please don’t be afraid to speak your mind

I have watched at least 40 of Johns video's. John says a lot and at the same time doesn't say anything. I hope all of you can get your head around some of his words better than I can.

Dear John, While it s right, as you teach, to seek always in oneself for what is wrong with the World, for it indeed always starts "with me", the buck stops here. Yes. Nonetheless you must acknowledge that there is one exception in this life that should ring true to you, too, with your decades more of experience, and that is: The Suffering. It is not judgement, it is not self-serving, it is not self centered when the likes of us Feel A Need For Action when we see someone suffer, most importantly if this Suffering in inflicted by Pure Evil, as is in the case of the Ukrainean People (and I understand your avoiding of naming the subject, while displaying the Ukrainian colors on flowers shaped like the Ukrainian map at the beginning of this video). Therefore in this case we disagree: the souls who suffer this very moment in Bucha and Mariupol need more than just Mindfulness on our part: they need active action. In that sense YES, it starts with "me, me, me" : what do I do to help.
