Hey everyone back again with more Scrap Mechanic Multiplayer Monday! Today we are finally doing the ever requested glider challenge where each person has to build the best glider which will be judged in both a distance and accuracy competition!

I imagine that there would be rings in the air that would refuel you as you pass through them, the closer you get to the center the more it refuels? Hmm. Edit: Somehow this reminded me of Superman 64

@@AGooeyMass Superman 64 best game. I didn't mean rings in the air that would refuel but that would be nice too. I meant like a few bigger rings (or other markers) are on the map and person who will go through the most with limited, non refueling fuel wins, of course everyone would have the same amount of fuel. Or something more WW2 style. You have a few 'bombers' high on the map (non moving ones for simplicity, they would be just cardboard and maybe a few explosives) and you have to destroy all of them, or at least as many as you can using 2-4 spudguns and then return to airfield, probably while gliding becouse of really limited fuel (there could be like 4 not big airfields on the map). Basicly what Me 163 was used for.

MM idea Transformer race, start out with wheels, then around half way activate hovers, then towards the final stretch, you need to use legs, You could use just two or add more building time to make it easier.

Tips for gliding: -minimize drag by minimizing cross section area -maximize wing surface area to mass ratio -fly as slow as your glider can go to reduce air resistance

Flying too slow is way worse than too fast (see Cl diagrams). Vertical stabilizer needs to be behind CoP (CoG) for stable yaw (only have vertical wings at the tail), Extending main wings forward/back mainly moves CoP forward/aft (so it acts as canard/elevator), to achieve roll you'd have to extend wings outward (asymmetrically). 90% of the flight dynamics in this game is fucked.

nice, i have an idea, how about the glitch car, where you need at least one of all known glitches on it, and have to climb the mountain and then go back down that same path while everyone is coming up at the same time. it will probably be hell, it will probably lag like mad, it probably will crash a few games, but who cares if their pc melts if they are having fun in the process :). it will be fun, trust me, i did it with friends once, it was hilarious

if you do another glider competition, use more wing span, it creates more of an aerofoil to decrease the pressure of the top part of the wing, making it glide further.

Just a helpful hint here. You need to have the center of gravity of the vehicle over the wing. You guys always build these things incredibly tail heavy which is why they never fly right. Always fun to watch you guys having fun though. :)

Helicopter: all your wings have to be on powered bearing, you try to go 1: as far as you can without hitting ground 2: as close to target

i know this is an old comment but I'd like to point out how in the second challenge when kAN was trying to land on the pink thing, he should've just nosedived into it instead of trying to turn around and do a 180 knowing his plane can't do it... (around 17:30) edit: also Durf's controls are literally inverted...

Duo races. 4 creations with 2 seats for 2 drivers, one person controls steering and the other the throttle and brakes. Tie breaker could be least cumulative time. Not sure if that's been done before

I am the one who created this concept to my knowledge, and for sure the one that inspired kAN. kAN acually saw it first on Durf's Fan Creations live stream. It was made for my bearingless plane (which worked really well) but then I noticed that it has some advantages over traditional controls. Mainly it doesn't create drag to pitch and that saves a lot of energy (speed). It's all about center of mass vs center of lift. This steering has limitations, like it doesn't really work in stalls or upside down and It needs to be well balanced, (which takes more than 15 minutes to do), also the faster you go the more responsive it is. It works well in combination with normal controls.

If you guys do this again you might either want to do every attempt with all three of you guys or just solo flights because the first attempt with all three of you will affect the center of gravity and the weight of the aircraft more then solo flights

Re-do with one limited engine / propeller ? I liked this one alot. Or re-do but you have to model the planes off of historical planes. That way you could do a follow-up video with the same planes and what you would fix about them ??

You should see if you can build an aperature door (probably not in MM) It might be tough with the grid pattern of scrap mechanic but maybe with mods or some sort of clever ingenuity it could be done. It'd be really cool to see.

Y’all should do a trophy truck (with trophy truck suspension, must have control arms) build for a mutiplayer monday’s video except you all get randomly assigned to another’s build for 2-3 rounds (you could get assigned to your own) and then see whose is the best that way it is not based on who is the best driver but more of who has the best trophy truck

I think the main problem with durf's is that the placement of the ailerons (high and near the center line) means he's wasting a lot of torque. Also the center of mass and lift are nearly the same. If he had placed his craft closer to the back of the platform to bump into it while falling he could pitch down earlier to gain the velocity he needs to get control authority.

I think kAN wins because he was acceptable in both situations. He could fly relatively far and relatively accurate. The others could only do one of them and completely fail with the other, thus their overall performance would be bad.

that is not at all how flight physics work, if you move a wing forward and the other stays in the same place, the center of lift is moves about half the distance the one wing moves. It's a good idea in theory, but in practice it would be more effective to move the wing out ward instead of forward.

i dont know if you will make a plane again in scrap mechanic or will my idea work but in real world if you offset back horizontal stabilizers upper than the main wing plane will have a natural upwards pitch or if you offset it lower you will have a natural downwords pitch

Kan wins, because he was average. One person was good at flying far, one person was good at flying accurately. Kan was not-terrible at both, so he has the most stable and useful design, and therefore wins.

I think kAN won, only because the other two were complete flops at one of the other challenges. kAN didn't excel at any one of the challenges, but it also didn't flop (Scrapman's flopped hard at the distance, and Durf went full on leaf mode after trying to turn)
