How did nobody say Adam Dunn??? Easy 40 for any year in the mid 2000s. And Brandon Phillips had 30 in 2007 for a strong 2B option.

Left some heavy hitters on the board. Alfonso Soriano 2007, Matt Holliday 2010, Lance Berkman 2002, Carlos Lee 2007, Derrek Lee 2005, Yadier Molina 2012, Anthony Rizzo any year from 2014-2017, Scott Rolen 2004, Brandon Phillips 2007, and Adam Dunn any year from 2004-2007. All had big totals. Also, I’m not sure how you forget 2016 as KBs MVP season, it coincided with the WS title.

I identified a best possible team using two different methods (no player duplication). The first, where each player (except DH, which can be anybody) is eligible at any position he hit a plurality of his homers while playing in the listed season: C: 2019 Yasmani Grandal (28) 1B: 2007 Prince Fielder (50) 2B: 2018 Javier Baez (34) 3B: 2019 Eugenio Suarez (49) SS: 2006 Bill Hall (35) LF: 2004 Adam Dunn (46) CF: 2000 Richard Hidalgo (44) RF: 2001 Sammy Sosa (64) DH: 2006 Albert Pujols (49) Total: 399 And the second, where each player is eligible at _any_ position he hit at least one homer playing in the listed season: C: 2017 Kyle Schwarber (30) 1B: 2007 Prince Fielder (50) 2B: 2018 Matt Carpenter (36) 3B: 2019 Eugenio Suarez (49) SS: 2006 Bill Hall (35) LF: 2004 Adam Dunn (46) CF: 2000 Richard Hidalgo (44) RF: 2001 Sammy Sosa (64) DH: 2006 Albert Pujols (49) Total: 403 Note that the two players on this second roster who aren't on the first each hit exactly 1 home run at the listed position in that season. Carpenter's came in the bottom of the 7th for the Cardinals against the Royals on May 21, and Schwarber's happened in the bottom of the 8th for the Cubs against the Brewers on September 9th, in a game the Cubs ended up losing 15-2. Schwarber hit 5 home runs as a catcher in the 2015 season, so his playing the position wasn't entirely unprecedented. Also note that they had to draft three outfielder seasons rather than specific outfield positions, and if I'd done that 2006 Lance Berkman (45 home runs) takes the place of Richard Hidalgo on the second roster. You could also do a variation of this where you have to draft someone from each of the franchises involved; in that case, the best play is probably to exchange 2002 Pirate Brian Giles (38 home runs) for Adam Dunn. Shoutouts to Jerry Hairston, who hit exactly 2 home runs playing each of 4 different positions in 2009; Brendan Donovan, who hit exactly 1 home run playing each of 5 different positions in 2022; Adam Dunn, who hit exactly 40 homers in three consecutive seasons from 2005-2007; Aramis Ramirez, who hit at least 65 home runs with 3 different NL Central teams between 2000 and 2023; and Carlos Zambrano, whose 6 homers in 2006 and 23 overall in this span both constitute the most by an NL Central pitcher.
