Introduction to the Topic
In this video, J Sai Deepak addresses crucial questions surrounding the learning and preservation of the Vedas, the impact of hereditary systems, and the role of Brahmins in contemporary society. He challenges prevalent misconceptions and discusses the socio-political dynamics affecting Hindu traditions.
Questioning Access to the Vedas
Sai Deepak starts by addressing a pertinent question: should the learning of the Vedas be open to everyone or remain a hereditary privilege? He highlights the absence of social and economic incentives for learning the Vedas and the false narratives that hinder this tradition. Deepak argues that there are no barriers preventing anyone from studying the Vedas, emphasizing that the real issue lies in societal perceptions and disincentives.
The Role of Brahmins and Societal Dynamics
Deepak delves into the socio-political muscle of Brahmins, debunking the myth that they have the power to restrict others from pursuing Vedic studies. He critiques both leftists and self-proclaimed Hindu rightists for their baseless attacks on Brahmins, emphasizing the need for a respectful and supportive environment within the community.
Upholding Traditions and Respecting Diversity
He stresses the importance of respecting traditional institutions and practices while allowing for parallel systems to exist. Deepak points out that institutions like Arya Samaj temples operate without adhering to strict Agamic principles, and this diversity should be respected. He asserts that reformist agendas should not interfere with established traditions and rituals.
Inspirational Examples and Commitment to Tradition
Deepak shares inspirational stories of Vaidika Brahmin families who have dedicated their lives to preserving Vedic traditions despite facing economic hardships. He highlights their commitment, community spirit, and innovative approaches to education and livelihood, which ensure the continuity of their heritage.

Just look at yourself, the individual, see what you are worth and what you can be proud of yourself. Nationality, mother tongue, religion are just identities and a matter of choice and convenience. There is nothing to be proud about them. If your Nation, Religion and Language are great, others should praise it and not you.

Sathya Sai Baba asked all his disciples to learn Rudram. So I learnt it. I am not a Brahmin. When I went to my village, I encouraged devotees to chant Rudram at our Shiva Temple. When my mother came to know about it she was not happy. She said I have to learn how to chant Rudram from a Guru and I should not chant Rudram in temple. Only Brahmins can chant it. So my mother was against my learning Rudram and chanting it. I told my mother that I follow Sathya Sai Baba and Baba told us to learn Rudram and as such I do not need any guru or anyone's permission. It looks like we are our own enemies.

@@Deepak_Arya sorry bro this is pure propaganda. Ask them to show in which smruti and in which shloka it was said so? The "mother of Vedas" is Gayathri matha and people tell Vedas must not be learnt by women(there are only few mantras which can create disharmony among ladies that's it). Other castes(varnas) did have gurukulams and the guru from their community taught them these. Even today since I come from Vijayawada(Andhra Pradesh) there is a school where anyone from any caste of Hindu can learn and also given posts of priests on behalf of TTD(Tirupathi) in village temples.

@Deepak_Arya First of all there is no "I will study" in Vedic tradition. One has to study under a Guru. The constraint you say is true but applies for Vedas. Vedas are taught in Brahmin lineage. But puranas and Itihasa, which has the same message and content as vedas, infact in a practically demonstrated way than abstract way, is definitely to be taught to all varnas.

Namasthe from an Indian-American. I am SOOO tired of this fruitless endeavor of what I call "Bashing Brahmin-Bashing." :) Brahmin-Bashing has been going on ever since independence, and to use an American expression, "It ain't gonna stop." I ran away from Chennai in the 1960s when in disgust I saw and experienced the hatred of Brahmins as though they, the Brahmins, were responsible for the problems in society. Whereas in truth, it was the British who drained massive amounts of wealth from India. You know what SCAPEGOATS are? They are the ones who take the blame for someone else's folly. Even after independence, I saw very clearly that the super-rich in Tamil Nadu were NEVER THE BRAHMINS. Never. Anyhow, as regards "Who can learn the Vedas." Well, the most important part of the Vedas are the Upanishads. There never was a copy of those incredible scriptures at our home and I never recall seeing them prominently displayed at the Higginbotham's bookstore on Mount Road. It was ten years after I settled in the USA that I saw a copy at a bookstore. I literally cried after I started reading the book, thinking "Why didn't anyone tell me about these magnificent scriptures???" I'll tell you the answer to this question that I asked myself: the British forced a secular education on us Indians, promoted countless Christian schools and colleges. There was a clear but subtle promotion of Christianity on us. It wasn't forced on us in that sense, but it was in a subtle way. The British colonizers had nothing but contempt for Hinduism and Hindu scriptures. So the end result was that our "Scholars" like Dr. S. Radhakrishnan wrote that Hinduism is nothing but a "Way Of Life." What a senseless statement that was, leading to Hinduism being rejected as a religion that had/has the same rights as "Minority" religions. Countless millions of Hindus have become brainwashed into this "way of life" ideology, which means that the Vedas are obsolete and not worth learning.

Some complex, exacting and intricate tasks are best left as hereditary professions unless an eager new learners are found. 1) Time consuming-so have to start young which naturally means learning from family practices 2) A great deal of skill is involved- so having your father, uncle teach you is easier as they can freely scold & discipline you. I found that Indian Hindus are delighted when foreigners study Sanatan Dharma. Why in the world would they discriminate against other Indians? It doesn't make sense. Darshana flourished in the past because power was separated from the intellectuals (Brahmin). They couldn't wage war so they engaged in debate. In contrast, the Abrahamic religions fought wars over petty differences in their beliefs because kings meddled in religious affairs.

Those days it was by birth and even today, within their "aahm", it is by birth, for outside world and for propaganda it is by "action". If it is by "action" most of those who claim to be "Brahmin" are in fact not "Brahmin". @arunjose5175 whichever version says what the so called Brahmins say is good translation and whichever version says different things to what Brahmins say is bad translation. The interesting thing is these fellows come up with different meanings for the vedas from time to time to suit the situations and the group of people who they are dealing with.

All can learn Vedas who are interested in the scriptures. Nowadays everything is open after internet and mobile came into existence. A soul is a perennial offshoot of the Brahman. So every person can become a Brahmin by dint of spiritual regeneration and culture.Sri Aurobindo in how book entitled The Human Cycle writes a chapter wherein this is mentioned. Chapter is "The Soul force and its four-fold personalities. Refer and read please.

Karma based Varna. So with change of karmas, we can have multiple Varna each day. Ahh so sorry state of affairs. Varna is as per gunas that have been accumulating due to past karma. Based on that we get a birth into that Varna and we maintain into it. A kshatriya stopping ruling will not become brahmana, vaishya or shudra. Yes, of a shudra does his duties as per the shastras, he is more respectable than a brahmana who has left his duties. And the shudra due to his good duties as per shastra can enjoy life here and hereafter and can attain moksha or can get a birth in his future in higher caste. So, people getting a birth in some Varna is because of his past virtues or karma that have accumulated in form of gunas. It's not otherwise that during a life time, the gunas change multiple times and with that the Varna also does not change.

@ankanghosh5272 You change tunes according to the times. Once upon a time you said whatever you wanted to say, and put it in the name of religion and God. Now when majority of the people got awareness and give importance to self respect, and when you want to purify and glorify the religion, you change stories, like British brought the casteism, Mughals brought it, the word "caste" is from outside India etc.

Pure Brahmin hatred and nothing else 😅 The Brahmins who you see in positions of power and wealth today are Brahmins who let go of their duties as Brahmins, which is to study vedas and preach its knowledge to people, and using that time and energy to gain power and wealth. I don't think the world is stupid enough to give power and money to a Brahmin who sits in his house chanting mantras .... So what are you complaining about? That Brahmins have ability to achieve wealth and power ? 😅🤷

Varna ashrama Dharma is the backbone of sanatana vedic styles. The perosns of each caste have right on fruits but not the process or ways. Our ways are different but not fruits. Males of Brahmin, kshatriya, vaishya have duty (more important than right) to study vedas If they follow strict rules. Out of them brahmin have duty to teach. Females and shudras as per our shastras(Garuda purana sloka " stree shudra mantre adhikarasya na) should not learn vedas. But in past everyone had the essence knowledge of these in thier lives. Now even brahmins have left the basic sandhyavandana, leave asode learning and teaching. For a female marriage os equivalent to thread ceremony and her household activities is equivalent to learning vedas. Shudras and females are BLESSED and are closest to God in most easy steps doing their worldy works. So, as per sanatan dharma, ain of life is materia pleasures and reaching God. Both of them are possible for people with any varna ashrama. But if they do or not do acts of others which are prohibited for self, they are censured and wrong. Swadharme shreyam paradharma bhayamahaha. So, for modern esucation no distinction, but for vedic ashrama learning, things were deaigned different. So if Arya samaj or any society comes up with single rule for all, then it shall be against sanatan dharma.--words of Shri Jagat Guru Shankaracharya.
