Have you ever read a comic book and thought one of the characters seemed like a copy of another from a different book? You are far from the first. Comics, specifically those of the industry's rival superpowers, Marvel and DC, are full of original, vibrant heroes and villains. But sometimes, a few of them resemble guys from the other property a bit too much, either in abilities, backstories, designs, and in other ways.
This is a list of characters who are similar.
Some counterparts are personality wise, others are power wise and some are looks wise.

To be fair a good amount of these are just similar concepts and very different characters. Also some of these characters were very different originally.

What? Spider-man and Blue Beetle? You know that OG Blue Beetle was more like Batman? Guy with no powers, using gadgets and stuff.

I know there are other similar dc characters for spiderman lile black spider or tarantula but blue beetle is more similar for me.. Both Spiderman and bluebeetle are teeneage superheros. Bluebeetle also have super strength and also struggle with balancing their personal(highschool student) and superhero lives... 🤘

@@chartcrashersHero The first blue beetle, the one made in 1939 is an adult. The teenager version you mentioned and the picture you put is the third generation of blue beetle, who was made in 2006

@@chartcrashersHeroblack spider came out after Spider-Man and tarantula is not similar to Spider-Man at all. They both have a spider theme but originally tarantula looked like a superhero with a cape and had a gun that shot nylon and suction cups to help him walk on walls where as Spider-Man has superhuman speed strength and durability can shoot his own webs out of web shooters He can use his webs to swing or to web of bad guys or to make items with them or to make webs. He can also use them to walk across things and they dissolve after 2 hours. His web shooters can also make a lot of webbing enough to completely cover up bad guys making it impossible to break through. No other comic book superhero has ever made anything close to what his web shooters can do. His webbing is so strong that his own super strength can’t break it. He also has a spidey sense and crawls on walls because of hooks on his fingers. He was also the first teenage superhero something that was unheard of at the time.

In fact, Captain America is a copy of Shield, Spiderman is a copy of Tarantula, Magneto is a copy of Doctor Polaris, Wolverine is a copy of Timber Wolf from DC.

Yeah straight up at first hulk was definitely a copy of grundy. He was even gray but now the two are completely different with completely different characters straits and stories

That’s not true Grundy was originally a lot smaller and didn’t change his look to be so monstrous until after hulk was made. So Grundy copied hulk and not the other way around. The only similarity they had before Grundy copied him was that they were both inspired off of Frankenstein

Elongated man is very different from Plastic man...two different characters... Reed richards is similar to elongated man than plastic man...

Spider-man and Blue Beetle? They're nothing alike except for buglike names. They have completely different powers, origins, background stories and characters, etc. You totally messed up with this match. Another big boo-boo: You said Elongated Man, but you showed a picture of Plastic Man. Since the date was for Ralph's debut date (Eel was back in the 1930s), I think you really did mean Ralph. Talia is an assassin, the daughter of the leader of a League of Assassins, where Black Widow is a Russian superspy. Black Racer is a New God who acts as an agent of Death among the New Gods, and the Surfer is a Herald of Galactus. It's a stretch - a long stretch - but this might be doable, but not a good match. DC did a spoof of Galactus, a spacefaring, giant alien who doesn't eat planets, he redecorates them in as tacky a fashion as possible (Earth was only saved when the Justice League showed Las Vegas to him; he left, impressed by humans' design sense). He even has a Herald. Black Panther and Bronze Tiger? Did you match them only because they're both black? Sad. The only way that you could have matched up Ghost Rider with Atomic Skull is because they both have flaming skulls for heads. Otherwise, they are nothing alike. The best matchup for Ghost Rider would be Etrigan. Iron Man and Rocket Red? Really? It should have been Iron Man and Steel: both use armor, both are inventor/industrialists, both are members of their universes' premium teams, etc. Dreamslayer and Dormammu? Sigh. Dreamslayer should be matched with Nightmare, and Dormammu should be matched with Trigon. Galactus' analog I already mentioned above. Doom Patrol should be matched with the Great Lakes Avengers; both teams are oddball heroes that no one believes in, least of all their fellows in the super-hero community. The closest thing DC has to the X-men is the Titans. Most of the X-men started out as teens, just like the Titans. Both groups are now grown-ups with long histories of heroism, both have had members in their respective universes' premiere teams, both teams experience a rebirth in the late 70s, etc. In fact, both groups teamed up in one of Marvel's and DC's crossover events. Argus and SHIELD? I don't think DC has ever had anything even close to comparable to SHIELD. The closest would be the Department of Extranormal Operations (especially as depicted in the Smallville comic book series), and even that's a stretch. Man, did you give any real thought to this? Most of these matchups are messed up.

Wow.. Thank you for taking the time and giving your input. that’s really awesome of you.. Plastic man was a genuine mistake… thank you for noticing.. 1. Spiderman vs bluebeetle a. Younger heros b. Bug theme c. Balancing superhero and personal life d. Both got powers accidently 2. Even though Black Widow was inspired from Black canary(it feels like it), I always consider Talia as an evil version of Black Widow. Appearance is same(black suits and stuff). Also, both were trained by criminal sense organisations - talia by ra’s ghul and black widow by the red room. 3. Black Racer was indeed copied from Silver Surfer. If you check the history, Surfer first appeared in 1966 and DC wanted similar character and replaced surfboard with skis and bam, black racer was born in 1971. Unlike Silver surfer who rose with popularity, Black racer didn’t get that momentum. William Walker’s astral projected psyche became the persona, who wore skis and a knight’s helmet as part of his outfit. He was an ethereal character, indestructible, flying, swift, and with a “touch of death. 4. Black Panther and Bronze Tiger I matched basically due to their fighting skills. As per comics, both are considered as one of the elite fighters in both worlds. Even In Amalgam Comics, the Bronze Panther is the ruler of Wakanda and is named B'Nchalla; an amalgamation of the Bronze Tiger (DC) and the Black Panther (Marvel). 5. Ghost Rider and Atomic Skull - Flaming heads yes. But the similarities do not stop there. Ghost Rider's famous biker look has a very basic style, with a black jacket. Atomic Skull has the almost same getup, only missing the black spikes and chain. Etrigan is a fantastic matchup but I chose atomic skull due to the direct ripoff from Ghost Rider in so many things. 6. Rocket Red was indeed copied from Iron Man, rather poorly executed copy of Iron Man. A character that built his own hi-tech suit of armor that has a keen sense of mystery solving sure does sound a lot like Iron Man. If Tony Stark Jr. was a narcissist who embodied American capitalism and individualism, Dmitri Pushkin was a friendly team-player and a dedicated Russian patriot. Both were also clear products of the Cold War. 7. Dreamslayer is a powerful DC Comics supervillain and part of the evil gang called Extremists. Like the other Extremists, he is an homage to a Marvel Comics character, in this case Dormammu. 8. S.H.I.E.L.D exists to protect everyone, super-powered or otherwise. A.R.G.U.S exists as a direct and sometimes hostile response to super-powered beings. ARGUS collaborates with Justice League and other super humans as Shield with Avengers. And finally, the video is not about matchups, its more about the copycats. How marvel and dc comics copied the characters from one other. I will be doing a crossover matchup video soon. Once again, thank you for this analysis.

I wonder how many writers and artists read Steve Ditko & Stan Lee's Doctor Strange stories before they knew about Doctor Fate? Doctor Fate was only used in the JLA/JSA team ups for the silver age
